Two Seriously Injured In Pickup, Semi Crash (With Photo Gallery)

September 24, 2011

(Updated 9:15 a.m.) Two people were critically injured in a crash involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck Saturday morning in Molino.

The Florida Highway Patrol says 18-year old Tyler Fox of Pensacola was eastbound on Barrineau Park Road in a 1997 Ford F150 when he attempted to cross Highway 29 and pulled into the path of 2009 semi-truck driven by Kenny Lamont Moore, 37, of Florence, Ala. The 18-wheeler broadsided the pickup before jackknifing across the southbound lanes of Highway 29

Tyler and his 17-year old passenger, Destiny Trantham of Pensacola Beach, were ejected in the 6:55 a.m. crash as their truck came to rest in the median. Both, according to the FHP, were airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola in critical condition. Moore was transported to West Florida Hospital with minor injuries.

The Molino Station of Escambia Fire Rescue and Escambia County EMS also responded to the crash.

I talked to destiny last night, she is home from the hospital, shes doin good but has some broken bones, shows how strong the power of prayer is.

I think it’s a miracle that Tyler and Destiny were not killed with or without a seatbelt . I live 1 block from this accident and heard the impact- and I believe that it is a blessing these two young people are alive. I agree that the only thing that really matters is that these kids survived. I am fairly certain that they have learned the value of wearing or not wearing a seat belt.

Where are all the praise the lords and well wishers-seems like the usual folks are out on their soapboxes. . . . again. It’s too bad that there aren’t more optimistic folks writing on these blogs; it gets really old reading the same ole’ stuff from the same ole’ people.

Praise the lord that these kids were blessed with more time on this earth.

    REGARDING:
“why doesn’t everyone just calm down”
    AND
“life isnt about the what ifs, its about what happens”

    Everyone’s calm.

There’s nothing we can do to help those in this wreck but to wish them well and pray for them.

We simply realize there will be more wrecks in the future and are discussing how to best reduce fatalities and injuries in those events. Life really IS about the “what ifs”. If you consider all that might reasonably be expected to happen and prepare for the worst of it, life can be lived without the worst happening to you or those you love.

    David for better living

its not about if they were wearin seatbelts or not, its about how they are doin, the truck driver, destiny, and tyler, it could of been worse, but life isnt about the what ifs, its about what happens. just like i said on one of my last posts as bestfriend, SEATBELTS DONT ALWAYS SAVE LIVES. My dad rolled his 18 wheeler at the split of muscogee an jacks branch, if he would of been wearin the seat belt he would of died, and in tylers and destinys case they could of died, if you want to base it on what if, then what if they were wearing there seatbelts knocked unconcious and the truck caught fire with them in there ? i pray for a good recovery, i dont know tyler but destiny is my bestfriend. and i hope she is doinn okay, neither of themm deserved this, and im sure he was a good person just like she is,

  5. friend on September 27th, 2011 12:04 pm

um why doesn’t everyone just calm down and take time to consider that everyone’s OK and thank god it wasnt as bad as it could’ve been.

I talked to destiny monday she is alright but is prolly gonna feel this for the rest of her life. Tyler was already out of the hostpital mon. The two are very lucky!

I do agree seatbelts save lives. I wear mine as everyone should. I was merely stating that in my opinion with the amount of damage to the drivers area, ie the seat was almost touching the steering wheel, that in my opinion the driver would not have survived if he had stayed in his seat. What so amazing is there was a foot long gash in the gas tank and gas was pouring out. How there was no fire I have no idea. But tgere wasnt. My heart goes out to the family and friends.

  8. REF on September 26th, 2011 5:56 pm

    @Jeff
In your opinion the driver would’ve lost his life if wearing a seatbelt. Look at the statistics an I can assure you I work this on a daily basis an if he would’ve been wearing his seatbelt both of them would’ve never been ejected an sustained less injuries than what they have now. The seatbelts are there for a reason to wear them. In more cases than not they save lives

    REGARDING:
“But in my opinion if the driver had been wearing his he most definitely would have lost his life.”

Just out of curiosity, based on what?

Was the door caved in enough to encroach on where he was sitting?

His body would have already taken the full impact of the collision ere being launched out the door, throwing her out too. Unless the door would have crushed him, he would just have additional injuries from being struck by her, by shoving her as they were flung out and from whatever he hit outside the vehicle, possibly including the passenger side door.

    David considering forces involved
    while looking at photos
    and hoping they recover

  10. Jeff on September 26th, 2011 4:32 pm

I worked this accident. Towed the pickup away. I world say on the ejection that both went thru the passenger door from my judgement. I looked the truck over after I towed it and both seatbelts were hanging where they normally do. They were not used. But in my opinion if the driver had been wearing his he most definitly would have lost his life. This call broke my heart and I pray both survive and recover.

That corner has had soom many wrecks on it since I moved here’ there needs to be a caution light there to warn Barrineau Park to take when entering onto Hwy 29. hope all three are doing well

  12. jesse crumpler on September 26th, 2011 1:35 am

man tyler fox im sorry to see this i hope you git a new truck thats 4×4 buddy and i hope u make a full recovery from your best friend ole crump

  13. Interested on September 25th, 2011 10:08 am

Hope EVERYONE is ok from this wreck and make full recoveries.

@Micheal Weaver, you are right about the truck driver. Sometimes
when you hear people are fighting for their lives, it is hard to
remember that this same accident may have done such critical
damage to someone else’s life, even tho he did not have physical
    damage.

I hope the Truck Driver comes out of this also, and has no
long lasting repercussions of any kind. I do sympathize with
anyone and their jobs right now, especially in this economy.

I think also the Brothers’ comment was very mature,
that is so nice to read when usually everyone just wants
to baby the poor injured boys who were obviously the
cause of this accident, but of course we still want them
    to heal and be ok.

“how in the world were they “ejected” from the vehicle since they were hit from the side and the windshield is still intact?”

Look at the pictures. The back window is gone, the driver’s window is down or gone. That’s probably how.

  15. student on September 25th, 2011 8:11 am

how in the world were they “ejected” from the vehicle since they were hit from the side and the windshield is still intact?? i think somethings screwy about that….

  16. MICHAEL WEAVER on September 25th, 2011 5:43 am

I’M SORRY FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THIS , BUT THE CARELESS ACTIONS OF ONE YOUNG MAN NEARLY KILLED THREE PEOPLE. WHEN WILL PEOPLE STOP OF ANYONE OTHER THAN THEMSELVES. WHAT ABOUT THE TRUCK DRIVER AND HIS FAMILY….OR THE FACT THAT HE HAS A MAJOR ACCIDENT ON HIS C.D.L.LICENSE. ANY IDEA HOW HARD IT WILL BE TO GET ANOTHER JOB…. DOUBT HE KEEPS THE ONE HE HAS DUE TO THE TRUCK OWNERS INSURANCE. KEEP HIM AND HIS FAMILY IN YOUR PRAYERS ALSO.

  17. BestFriend on September 25th, 2011 2:41 am

  18. BestFriendd. on September 25th, 2011 2:19 am

Destinyy iss like my bestfriendd, i hope both of them are okayy, and im keeping themm in my prayers. and seatbelts dont always save lifes. when i was 2 my dad rolled his 18 wheeler on muscogee road and if he would of been wearing his seatbelt he would of died, luckily he wasnt so he was able to get below the stearin wheel, whichh after the wreck was over, was stickin through the roof and right through the drivers seatt.

  19. Brother on September 24th, 2011 9:35 pm

    Tyler is my brother,
last checked everyone was doing well although there where many injuries! Yes seatbelts save lives and any other accident it would have paid to have one on but we are not so sure in this instance. However I do believe that a seatbelt is a must! I hope and pray that everyone continues healing and doing well that where involved, also I hope and pray that all of those young folks that came to visit my brother and his friend learn a valuable lesson from all of this and if this is the price that my brother has to pay to one day save his or others life, then to it is worth it.

Dang.. hope Tyler and his friend get better. :/
I went to school with him.

Has anyone heard any updates on the people involved. My thoughts and prayers are goin out to all involved.

  22. amazed! on September 24th, 2011 1:46 pm

Here lately it seems like every time I turn around there is a vehicle accident. There is no way to avoid them. Life is so precious, and can be taken away in an instant! I pray for each family that was involved and the doctors at the hospitals so they will have knowledge and make wise decisions throughout the healing of these people. I pray that everyone will be okay

  23. jimmy on September 24th, 2011 12:47 pm

as a professional driver i see this all too much ..folks on the cell or jus not payin attention or think hey that truck will stop or wait on me,,,,it takes a few feet to even slow down an 80,000lbs truck so please folks give the big trucks room

  24. Tammy on September 24th, 2011 12:10 pm

Yes, sometimes, a simple ” I am praying for the people in the accident and the families as they go through this trying time” is enough said. We all mean well, but at times like this, no one wants blame put on anyone,We only want healing.Praying for all of the people involved and their families.

  25. molino jim on September 24th, 2011 12:04 pm

Sorry—the last line should have read “belts SAVE lives”.

  26. molino jim on September 24th, 2011 11:18 am

Dan–Yes there are a few time when seat belts may not save a person also a few times when not wearing them works out, but for each of those there are many many more who live when they are in a wreck and have belts on.Between seat belt and air bags you have a better chance of coming out of a wreck alive. There’s an old saying about some times no matter what you do you are going to die. Just because they were alive when they were transported does not mean they will live. I have seen a parent have to have their child taken off life support— I am now retired and still can see you pain the parent has. If their bodies are broken the time in rehab will hurt and they may have pain for the rest of their lives. My mother had her back broken in a wreck years ago and until her dying day she had pain. Bottom live belts save lives

  27. ready on September 24th, 2011 11:16 am

Hope they will all be ok. Pray for recovery for all involved.

  28. David Huie Green on September 24th, 2011 10:52 am

    REGARDING:
“there are plenty of times that if they were wearing the seat belt that they would b dead. ”

There are far more instances where they wouldn’t have been seriously injured had they been restrained by seat belts and shoulder harnesses.

Inside vehicles are all kinds of padding. Outside vehicles are all kinds of hard things like roads and trees and concrete and steel.

It is generally better to stay with padding than be thrown into, under or through the hard things.

It also helps to intentionally NOT run in front of or into hard things. Assume danger at every intersection and avoid it.

    David hoping for recovery

My prayers are with all involved, I came up on this while going to practice this morning; it looked aweful…

  32. To Dan on September 24th, 2011 10:24 am

Yes wearing your seat belt is the law but there are plenty of times that if they were wearing the seat belt that they would b dead. Just like the guy that hit me a week ago and his cars roof was smashed to the console. He was released about 16 hours after his wreck with minor injuries. If he was wearing his seat belt he would have died. Thank god he didnt have it on so a family didnt have to say good bye to there 23 year old son. Im glad these two didnt pass and hope they will come through this. Have a nice day Dan lol.

  33. June on September 24th, 2011 9:15 am

Sometimes a simple comment of, “Hope everyone’s going to be alright”, “Going to say a prayer”, would be nice. I will be praying for everyone involved, hope all make a full recovery from their injuries.

Heard the accident from Stout Rd. Woke us up from a dead sleep!!! Knew it had to be an accident or satelite debris falling. Prayers for the people involved.

  35. Dan on September 24th, 2011 8:36 am

    Ejected from the pickup?

That why seat belt use in Florida IS THE LAW !!!
