Latest Update: State Of Emergency, Tate, Molino Park Open As Shelters

Here is the latest information from the Escambia County Emergency Operations Center:
· The American Red Cross has opened an additional shelter at Tate High School, 1771 Tate High School Road in Cantonment. Access to Tate is only available through the north entrance.
· The shelter at Ferry Pass Middle School is currently at capacity (239 people). Anyone needing shelter should go to either Molino Park Elementary, 899 Highway 97, or Tate High School. Molino Park is the designated pet shelter. Proof of vaccinations and license is needed for all pets. The shelter at East Brent Baptist Church is now closed.
· Escambia County Area Transit (ECAT) is currently transporting approximately 100 residents on three buses from East Brent Baptist Church to Ferry Pass Middle School. The church is now closed as a shelter.
· While the area is currently seeing a lull in the rain fall, forecast models indicate the rain will pick up again after midnight tonight.
· Residents who are seeing high water in their area should evacuate before the next forecast round of rain approaches. Rain is forecast to last until Monday morning.
· Residents are requested to stay home and not travel tonight. Many roads are flooded and impassable.
· If you do have to travel, do not attempt to drive across a flooded road. Turn around, don’t drown.
· Several traffic lights are also out. If you approach a traffic signal that is out it must be treated as a four-way stop. If the signal is flashing the side that is flashing red must yield to traffic.
· At 3 p.m. today, Escambia County declared a local state of emergency
· The Emergency Operations Center is now at Level I, full activation
· The National Weather Service is forecasting an additional 12 to 15 inches of rainfall between now and midnight Sunday night. This makes the total projected rain fall for this event between 20 and 30 inches.
· Residents living in low lying areas and areas prone to flooding are encouraged to evacuate.
· Escambia County Emergency Management has activated its Citizen Information Line. Residents can call (850) 471-6600 for information.
· Residents are requested to stay home and not drive unless absolutely necessary. As night falls it will be more difficult to see flooded roads.
· The American Red Cross has opened a shelter for residents affected by today’s flooding conditions. The shelter is located at East Brent Baptist Church, 4801 North Davis Highway in Pensacola. Residents should bring along their disaster kits, which include clothing, food and water and necessary supplies for any elderly or babies in the family.

My mom told me about the flooding and I saw a quick picture on the news here in Huntsville, AL. By the picture posted above, it looks worse than I imagined. I definitely won’t be coming home for a visit anytime soon. Good luck dealing with this natural disaster and I hope everyone stays safe.
Can’t volunteer if I’m flooded In doors. But the boats still afloat in the front yard. Must be a sign from God to go play in the run off, with a lil common since. Lol
Thank god for antibiotics!! After being stuck in the house since Friday, those flooded road were a blast. It was like neighbor hood swim ti e without a pool. But I do understand that if if u ain’t ever rolled in the mud it tends to make u sick. I guess some folks just didn’t gEt dirty enough as kids to fight the bacterias!!!
Never play in flood run off, even a small one in the middle of the streets.
There are so many bacterias your body may or may not be able to fight it makes me sick to think about . Then there are so many possibilities of injury
large and small. Have you even HAD your Tetanus shot this year?
If you must go out into the mess go the shelters and volunteer.
Anyone know how 9 mile is between 29 and pineforest, is that a low lying
area?
@Deborah Tyson, I worked this morning/afternoon downtown, and the main stripe of Palafox is not bad (Sanger area), but main street is closed, so I’m I wouldn’t be surprised if the end of palafox has some problems.
looks like good ole burger king might have to consider sellin submarine sandwiches for a while!

praying for your families
we used to live here until January, so I am praying for all my Pensacola friends. We lived right behind the airport, next to the Tom Thumb and it seems that area is very flooded as well
How about University St.? (Between 9nt Ave) along Pensacola State College.
Tara as far as playing in that water goes… Just remember it’s not safe due to snakes, gators, drowning, swift currents etc plus sewage water runoff when the ground is flooding!
Cantonment has not seen the amount of rain that the lower part of the county has. Quintette Rd. and Hwy. 29 seem to be passable at this time.Reduce speed and be alert for standing water as well as other motorist. Headlights on…..
What can we do to help those stuck at the shelter?

My son is stationed in Pensacola and works at the Naval Hospital. He called to say he was OK but roads were bad (I don’t know the area so not sure which roads) but he wishes people that are just out to see what was happening would go home so that guys like him that need to get into the hospital could move safely. Take care Pensacola – been through this in 2010 don’t wish to trade places. Prayers to you all.
Does anyone know if there is flooding at the Sanger theater in downtown Pensacola?
My Toyota Avalon is a total loss due to being in the parking lot to the left of this Burger King..water is up to the dash inside my car and towing is not an option since the the flood waters are so great!. The towing co. thought they might be able to move a bit to keep it from floating but to no avail……Im just visiting here and now how to rely on my insurance co to get me a rental car to get me back to Fortson GA.

@Concerned – Around 1:30 p.m. we drove from Pine Forrest Blvd NORTH on 29 into Molino and the roads were fine.
People are asking me if Quintette Road is flooding or about to. Does anyone know. There are quite a few in the Pace/Milton area wanting to come to Molino tonight. Any information appreciated. Thank you
sorrento road is a river, do not attempt. sonic/wafle house on sorrento are completely flooded. country club on sorrento is closed due to SEVERE flooding.
I love Pensacola and I worry about this beautiful city and the people lucky enough to live there.
