WaWa Holds GroundBreaking First Escambia Store; Other Locations Announced

April 27, 2024

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday to mark the start of construction on Escambia County’s first Wawa store convenience retail stores.

The store will be located at Ransley Station at Pine Forest Road and Sharon Lane, just north of I-10, and is expected to be open by the end of 2024.

Wawa hosted dozens of VIP customers, as well as local officials and partners, who participated in the groundbreaking and received an update on Wawa’s growth plans for Escambia County, which included announcing the next site to go under construction later this year at the intersection of West Nine Mile Road and Beulah Road will be open in 2025. Two additional sites are set to begin construction later this year and open in 2025 at: North Davis Highway and Johnson Avenue, and Highway 98 and Blue Angel Parkway.

Wawa also invited guests to enjoy samples of freshly brewed coffee and other handcrafted beverages.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to break ground on our first store and celebrate with our newest soon-to-be neighbors!” said Joe Collins, director of Store Operations for Wawa.” We are thrilled to be kicking off our expansion into Pensacola and can’t wait to open our doors.”

At the groundbreaking, Wawa presented a $2,500 grant to Feeding the Gulf Coast to support local programs in Escambia County to fight hunger and food insecurity.

Wawa stores are currently located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C. with nearly 1,000 locations to date.

Over a thousand new apartments being built within two miles of I-110 and pine Forrest rd. I guess we will just have a new parking lot called pine Forrest rd. Infrastructure, who needs it.

Sure would be nice if the spelling of Sharron Lane would get fixed. The road was named after Sharron Doren who lived with her family on the road that bared her name. The brainchildren with Escambia County refuse to fix it even though old deeds on properties on that road show it as SHARRON not Sharon.

I thought the first one was at 9 mile & Beulah Rd. Either way I’m stoked they are coming here they definitely know how it’s done. I work in the Northeast often and I require a Wawa be visible from my hotel or I’m not staying there. We need one at 9 mile & Chisholm Rd . The lot is for sale and it’s the perfect size. As for the animals, I hear ya but you can’t stop progress. When the stores open you’ll forget about the lil furry squatters living rent free and what not rabble rabble rabble……

I’ve had the pleasure of Wawa while visiting my daughter in NJ. Wawa definitely outshines most convenience stores but Pensacola is becoming overbuilt now and it’s purely depressing, becoming dangerous and out of control. The poor wildlife has no place to go. Time to clean up the nasty parts before building palaces around them. What happen to worrying about our environmental issues? Are they just being hidden by buildings? I know a lot of the pitcher plants are built over now. That used to be important. Why not now?

Everyone, just remember the problems which are valid problems when it’s election time!

Progress to me would be NOT building anything else. Soon, wildlife will have little, if any, place to live. Driving is already a crowded nightmare.

I agree withTiffany, We are trying to build too many new businesses and new parks without taking care of our infrastructure thatwe already have.pretty soon we’re gonna be in big trouble in this county.

Poor planning!! Why couldn’t they have started on the other 2 WaWA’s they are planning nearby instead of moving forward on this severely congested, very dangerous road. We have been in need of serious improvements there for a decade. They haven’t yet dealt with the fact that they built a large luxury apartment complex where you already can’t get across, so let’s build a super popular business at the corner on top of that, sitting on I-10. Ya’ll come, they say. Epic failure of leadership!! Stop building until you upgrade the infrastructure. 1 or 2 lanes can’t support this kind of growth. We are choking up here!!!!

Oh well it’s progress in north Escambia county, and jobs. Yep 4 WAWA’S citizens.

Hwy29 and Hwy97 would be great. And the corner is already cleared off.

Now they are adding a stop light right there as well on Pine Forwst by that WAWA. Yet the road is still 1 lane going north, how absolutely absurd that has not been upgraded. Now traffic will back up on to the interstate now with that light. Good Job Escsmbia county for not pushing FDOT to do something about it since it’s a state road.

and Pine Forest Rd. stays the same stagnant road goinig north of I-10. Thanks county for thinking ahead!!
    Vote our county clowns OUT!

With so much congestion in the south end of the county. I have to ask why nothing is being built in the north end of Escambia County? We have beautiful land, beautiful and polite law abiding people. Instead everything is being stuck together in the south end of the county. I have to ask myself WHY. WHAT. GIVES.? People are missing out!!!!!

  17. Well on April 27th, 2024 10:25 am

Might I suggest Hwy 29 at Hwy 97.
We need a little competition there.

Again, what will be done about the traffic on Pine Forest Rd. It’s overloaded already.
