Man Charged With Smoking Spice With Teen Outside Dollar Store

November 27, 2012

A local man is facing child abuse charges after allegedly smoking spice with a 15-year old boy on Thanksgiving Day outside the Molino Dollar General.

Joseph Matthew Trump, age 36 of McDavid, was charged with child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was booked into the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $3,000.

Trump admitted to deputies that he and the 15-year old had smoked Spice in his car in the parking lot of the Dollar General on Highway 29 just north of Molino Road, according to an arrest report.

When deputies searched the vehicle, they reported finding a bag of  Spice in the glove compartment that was labeled in large yellow letters “Not for Human Consumption” and red lettering that stated “Not for Consumption. Not FDA Approved”.

“I thought it was OK because you can buy it over the counter,” Trump told deputies, the report states. Deputies also reported finding a rolled cigarette, rolling papers and two open beer cans in the vehicle.

The incident was also reported to the Department of Children and Families.

Spice is still available. Sadly, I know someone who buys it regularly from the gas station on Hwy. 29 near J.M. Tate High School. The Escambia County Sheriff’s Department says that an ingredient in spice has been banned. Manufacturers just keep changing the ingredients. Makes it hard for law enforcement to do anything about it.

@puddin: The face eating guy was thought to have been on bath salts but it turned out he only had THC (marijuana) in his system. A spice overdose elevates your heart rate, increases blood pressure and makes it difficult to breathe. All of the spice OD’s I have run have all been scared to death by the experience.

Where does it say the boy is his son?

Why would he think it was ok because it was over the counter? He must not read the paper where this substance has been banned in most locations because of it’s dangers. I didn’t think you were supposed to be able to buy it anymore.

I know someone who tried it ONCE and it nearly did her in.

Bad. From what I understand the stuff makes you nuts. Isnt that what the guy who ate some other guys face off was on? Hope that made sense. I thought it was still legal though. Still, not smart.

@ noone knows: Alcohol can be purchased also, so does that make it ok to consume so much that you cause harm to others, or your own family? Pornography can be purchased also, does that make it okay to stare at it for hours. It’s called common sense, but unfortunately it’s not all that common.

I remember when Molino and McDavid was mentioned in converstaion and you had to explain where the two places where.

Now days, You hear about them in the news with Drug, Child Abuse, Pornography, etc crimes. What a way to get on the map!

Farms, Crop fields, Hunting plots and just plain simpleness is a thing of the past. Now you have to lock your car, run to your house, lock your door and still pray no one thinks what you have is better than what they do. Craziness and getting worse.

So what counter did he buy it from? That’s the first thing I would have asked and
went straight there and arrested the owners of the business. Spice and all other forms of it is a KILLER why can’t everyone see this…. Smoking something to get high with a child.. come one why don’t you pick up a baseball and get a game going or something… be the adult. What kind of an example is this man????

Well, I guess he made a memory, but he may not want to share it forever.
