Jay Takes Two From Northview, Tate Falls To PHS (With NHS Gallery)

The Jay Royals swept two from the Northview Chiefs Tuesday night in Bratt.
In boys action, Jay defeated Northview 60-46, and in girls action, Jay topped Northview 69-15.

Walnut Hill Man Arrested For Shoplifting And Drug Possession At Atmore Walmart

A routine call at Walmart led Atmore Police officers to arrest a Walnut Hill man for shoplifting and drug possession recently.
While on another call, officers observed Walmart Loss Prevention confronting 54-year old Rodney Showers, 54, for allegedly stealing merchandise. Officers assisted in recovering the stolen items and detained Showers.
During a search related to the arrest, officers reported finding a small amount of crack cocaine and a glass pipe containing drug residue in Showers’ possession.
Showers was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and theft of property fourth degree. He was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Alabama, where he remains in custody.
CSX Is Done With Crossing Closures, Maintenance in Escambia County

There’s some welcomed traffic news today for Escambia County drivers today — CSX is done with crossing closures and maintenance in the county.
Over the past several weeks, CSX closed almost every one of their railroad crossings in the county from downtown Pensacola to the state line in Century.
But the last of the closed crossings opened Monday, and an Escambia County official says the railroad company is done with their work in the county.
Most recently, CSX returned and redid work at the Old Chemstrand, Kingsfield and Ten Mile road crossings, all of which opened on Monday afternoon.

Read With A Dog Wednesday At Molino Library

A Christmas edition of Read with a Dog is coming to the Molino Library on Wednesday.
Children can read to a dog that just loves stories and snuggles, building confidence for young readers.
The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Molino Library, 6450 Highway 95A North at the Molino Community Center.
Escambia Deputy Donates Stuffed Animal To Escambia Westgate Elementary Students

Elementary students at Escambia Westgate School recently received a stuffed animal personally donated by an Escambia County Sheriff’s deputy.
Deputy Chad Roop, who works in the ECSO Traffic Division, delivered the Snoopy and Curious George stuff animals to students at Westgate and Lincoln Park Elementary School.
Roop purchased the animals himself from the Kohl’s Cares program.

Cantonment Company Awarded $78 Million Contract To Renovate Biloxi VA Center

A Cantonment company has been awarded an almost $78 million contract for a renovation project at the Biloxi VA Center.
The Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Construction and Facilities Management awarded the $77,988,247 contract to ESA South to renovate Building 1 at the Biloxi VA Medical Center.
“The Biloxi Building 1 Renovation is more than just a construction project; it’s a commitment to enhancing the quality of care for our veterans along the Gulf Coast. This renovation will provide state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring that those who have served our country receive the best possible care and support,” ESA South said in a statement. “We are honored to have this opportunity to serve our veterans and look forward to delivering a project that will make a lasting impact on their lives.”
Over the past 25 years, ESA South has grown from a small firm doing local construction to a competitive design-build firm with a strong foothold in the federal sector with a wide array of military and federal projects, according to the company’s website.
McDavid Woman Arrested On Drug Charges After Throwing Food At McDonalds, Police Say

A McDavid woman was arrested on multiple drug charges after allegedly throwing food at vehicles at an Atmore McDonalds.
Shivoyer English, 43, was charged with disorderly conduct, possession of a controlled substance, promoting prison contraband second degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Atmore Police Department responded to the McDonald’s on South Main Street after receiving a report of a disorderly person throwing food at vehicles.
“English was agitated and was yelling and cursing,” Sgt. Darrell McMann said. “The officers were unable to calm English down and placed her under arrest for disorderly conduct.”
English was transported to the Atmore Municipal Jail. During the booking process, officers discovered over 20 grams of synthetic cannabis (spice) in her possession and items used to ingest narcotics, APD said. English was later booked into the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
Dedria’s Gift Makes Christmas Donation For Century Nursing Home Residents

Dedria’s Gift made a Christmas gift for the residents of the Century Health & Rehabilitation Center again this year thanks to a donation from St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Century.
Dedria’s Gift honors the memory of Dedria Robinson who was killed 2005 in an automobile accident at age 11. The group annually provides school supplies for hundreds of children in the Century area.

Update: Atmore Double Homicide Victims Named As Investigation Continues

The Atmore Police Department have named the victims as their investigation continues into a Sunday night double homicide.
At about 8:15 p.m., Atmore Police responded to a vacant residence in the 100 block of Ashley Street to find two people that had been shot multiple times while sitting in a vehicle.
The victims have been identified as 25-year-old Juwan McNeal and 27-year-old Joe Jones, Jr.
“They both passed away from their injuries,” Atmore Police Department Sgt. Darrell McMann said.
Police have not named a suspect or released any possible motive.
