What You Need To Know: Blue Angels Homecoming Show Saturday

Naval Air Station Pensacola is opening up to the public again on November 12 for the 2022 Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show.  This year’s air show will celebrate the theme: 100 Years of Carrier Aviation.   Below is a guide for this year’s show.

Event Days:

  • Saturday. Nov. 12

Event Times

  • 8 a.m. – Gates open to the public
  • 9:30 a.m. – Show begins.
  • 2 p.m. – The Blue Angels fly at about 2 p.m. both days.

Admission Free

  • FREE – There is no admission or parking fee. The air show is open to the public.
  • Reserved seating is available for purchase at www.naspensacolaairshow.com

Parking

  • Once you enter the base, you will be guided to the nearest available parking area.
  • Buses will be available to shuttle spectators to the airfield from parking lots.
  • A limited number of handicap parking spaces are available on a first come first serve basis. Patrons with handicapped licenses or hang tags will be directed by security guard upon entrance to Naval Air Station Pensacola to parking area.

Traffic Expectations

  • NAS Pensacola is expecting over 200,000 visitors during the air show weekend.
  • Expect traffic delays on Navy Blvd., Blue Angels Parkway and the surrounding areas.

Safety Regulations

  • All individuals entering the flightline area through the admission gates are subject to search.  Please arrive early, pay attention to all signs and announcements and be patient.  These procedures are in place to ensure the safety of all those attending the Air Show

FAQ

Is there a handicap area?
There is a seating section for wheelchairs only (first come, first served). A companion may sit with the wheelchair member, but we ask that large family groups not take up space that others with handicap needs would like to use.

What time does the show start and end?
Air Show gates open at 8:00 a.m. both Friday and Saturday, and the show is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. The Blue Angels are the last performers during the day show and are scheduled to perform around 2:00 p.m.

Other than the Air Show, what other attractions will be at the show?
In addition to the Air Show, spectators can enjoy a collection of aircraft on display, virtual games and other attractions/displays at vendor booths, food booths, souvenir booths, and a kids’ fun-zone!

Is it a different show each day?
The show schedule is the same each day. Low clouds or high winds can affect the performer’s acts and the show schedule.

What happens if it rains?
Unfortunately due to performer scheduling, there are no refunds and no rain dates for the event.

What is the temperature at the show?
The average temperature in November is 63 degrees. It can be windy on the tarmac.  We ask that you use hats and sunscreen and not umbrellas that obscure the view of people behind you.

Should I bring hearing protection?
Yes, hearing protection is highly encouraged for all Air Show spectators, especially young children.  Ear plugs will be available for purchase at the Air Show.

Will an ATM be available?
Yes.

Do the vendors take credit cards?
Some vendors do, however an ATM will be available on the site.

Is there shade?
General Admission ticket holders will be under an open sky. Patrons are encouraged to plan accordingly and bring plenty of sunscreen, hats and sunglasses. We do not encourage umbrellas as they block the view of other patrons.

Permitted/Prohibited Items:

Are wagons and strollers allowed?
Yes. Be mindful that strollers, carriages and wagons cannot take up aisle space in the seating areas and have to be stowed under the bleachers.

Are strollers or wheelchairs available for rent at the show?
At this time there is no vendor renting these items.

Are pets allowed on the airport grounds?
No, pets are NOT permitted other than service animals. The crowds and noise are not suitable for pets.

Is smoking permitted?
Smoking areas are limited. Smoking is NOT permitted anywhere on the flight line in the vicinity of aircraft, vendor tents or chalets. There is a smoking area located between the two hangars.

May I bring lawn chairs or blankets?
Chairs and blankets are permitted and recommended for general spectator seating. These items are subject to search. If you have purchased an upgraded flight line ticket or have a Sponsor ticket, seating will be provided in these areas and you will not need to bring your own chairs.

Are coolers allowed at the event?
No.

Will outside food and drinks be allowed?
No.  No outside food or beverages are permitted on the flight line except baby bottles (non-glass) and small snack items for young children.  We have a variety of food and beverage vendors available for purchase at the Air Show.  Alcoholic beverages will also be available for purchase from Air Show vendors.

Are bags allowed?
Most bags will not be allowed to include backpacks and camera bags. Only small purses and diaper bags will be accepted, and are subject to search.  Please bring only what you can hand carry.

Can we bring a pop-up tent?
No, due to safety concerns, pop up tents are not permitted.

Are there any restrictions on bringing weapons to the event?
No weapons are permitted on NAS Pensacola. Weapons including pocket knives, multi-tools, replica/toy weapons or pepper spray are NOT permitted, and will be confiscated.

Can I bring in photography and camera equipment?
Photography and camera equipment are permitted, but must be hand carried.  Also, in order to keep the entry line moving along, you will want to bring only what is absolutely needed.  Please be considerate of those trying to view the show and do not block their view by setting up tripods in front of their seats.

Are cell phones, laptop computers and tablets allowed?
Yes.

Are FRS/GMRS radios allowed?
FRS/GMRS radios are permitted.  VHF band and other scanners are also permitted, but transmitters/transceivers are not.

Man Gets 15 Years For ATM Burglaries, Trafficking Heroin

An Escambia County Man has been sentenced to 15 years on state prison in connection with multiple ATM burglaries in Escambia County.

Arthur Arless Streety was convicted of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; trafficking in heroin; multiple counts of burglary; attempted burglary; grand theft; and criminal mischief. He must serve each day of the 15 years for the trafficking in heroin sentence as mandatory minimum.

In January 2022, prosecutors said Streety took park in the burglary of over a half dozen ATMs at multiple locations.

The ATMs were significantly damaged in the process, with one machine completely removed from its original location with over $23,000 stolen. When law enforcement officers executed a search warrant on the Streety’s residence, multiple pieces of evidence linking  him to the burglaries were located. Additionally, law enforcement officers found firearms and approximately 24 grams of heroin.

The burglarized ATMS included Central Credit Union on Nine Mile Road, SunTrust bank on Creighton Road, Regions Bank on South Blue Angel Parkway, and an ATM on Copter Road.

George ‘B’ Hare, Jr.

George “B” Hare, Jr, 75, of Pensacola, Florida passed away on Friday, November 4, 2022. He was born in Long Beach, California on January 26, 1947 to George “B” Hare and Ella Clarke. He was married to Veronica Ruth Hare. George had a career in Construction/Electrician. And he had a passion for remodeling his house, restoring his truck, volunteering at local cat rescues and Animal Allies Florida. He also enjoyed watching football.

George was preceded in death by his father, George “B” Hare; his mother, Ella Clarke; his wife, Veronica Hare; sons, Matthew Hare and Jeffery Allen; and his brother, Kenneth Hare. He is survived by his sons, Anthony Hare, Christopher Hare, Gregory Scudder, and Tracy Hare; his sister’s, Cheryl Lakatos, Polly Copeland, and Linda Lockhart; and numerous nieces, nephew, in-laws and friends.

The family will receive friends at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North on Monday, November 14, 2022 from 10:00AM – 11:00AM. The service will follow immediately after at 11:00AM. Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery.

Update: Driver Charged In Nine Mile Wreck That Killed Cantonment Man

A 19-year old driver has been charged with the causing the death of a 37-year old Cantonment man in crash Friday morning on Nine Mile Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a pickup truck driven by a 19-year old Pedro De Souza of Pensacola was traveling west on Nine Mile Road in the outside lane and failed to stop at the traffic signal, entering the intersection with Guidy Lane. At the same time black Nissan sedan driven by the Cantonment man turned left from Guidy Lane onto Nine Mile, causing the vehicles to collide. .

The Cantonment man was pronounced deceased on the scene of the 4:54 a.m. wreck. His name has not been released.

FHP has charged De Souza with driving without a driver’s license causing death and failure to stop at a steady red traffic signal.

Westbound traffic on Nine Mile Road was diverted onto Guidy Lane for several hours due to the crash.

Armed Robbery At Highway 29 Convenience Store Under Investigation

Deputies are searching for the suspect in an armed robbery at a Highway 29 convenience store Thursday night.

The robbery happened about 9:38 p.m. at the Speed Mart at 1800 South Highway 29 in Gonzalez, across from Tate School Road.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said the store was robbed by a black male that was armed with a handgun. The suspect was described as being approximately 5-foot 5-inches tall, about 28-30 years of age, and wearing all-black clothing and a mask.

The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and fled on foot toward Highway 95A and Old Chemstrand Road.

Deputies established a perimeter and searched with a K-9, but at last report the suspect was not located.

There were no injuries.

Schools across the North Escambia area honored veterans this week.

Bratt Elementary held a veterans parade and presented a special musical. During the program, Army Staff Sergeant Andrew Bolen was interviewed by his nephew Levi Bolen.

Pine Meadow Elementary School honored veterans with a parade, speakers, music, a Wall of Heroes, and breakfast.

At Jim Allen Elementary School, students drew pictures to honor veterans.

Ernest Ward Middle Honors Veterans (With Photo Gallery)

Ernest Ward Middle School in Walnut Hill paused to honor veterans from across the area Thursday morning.

The program featured the Presentation of Colors from the Northview High School NJROTC Color Guard, a moment of silence and the Pledge of Allegiance from the Ernest Ward SGA, patriotic music from the EWMS Band and others, a live human video from the EWMS Drama Club and more. Guest speaker was EWMS teacher and retired Navy Yeoman 2nd Class Stephen B. Dillard.

The annual Veterans Day program at Ernest Ward is a longstanding community tradition, held annually (except 2020) for over 25 years.

Grand Jury Returns Three Indictments In Geoghegan Murder

November 11, 2022

An Escambia County grand jury on Thursday indicted Jacob Monroe Colville for first degree premeditated murder with a firearm. Alyssa Marie Blackburn and Lawrence Bonner, Jr. were both indicted for principal to first degree premeditated murder with a firearm.

The indictments stem from the shooting death of 26-year old  Jesse Allen Geoghahan on October 29.

On October 29, the ECSO responded to the 1000 block of Medford Avenue where they found Geoghahan. with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

The three suspects remain in the Escambia County Jail without bond and will be arraigned on November 23.
