Wednesday Report: Escambia, Santa Rosa COVID-19 Cases Up By 118

Escambia County COVID-15 cases were up by 94 in the Wednesday report from the the Florida Department of Health.

Escambia County cases increased to 2,046. Santa Rosa cases were up by 24 to 617.

Of the test results returned on Tuesday, 13% were positive in Escambia County and 13.1% were positive in Santa Rosa County.

Of the 44 deaths in Escambia County,  34 have been long-term care facility residents or staff. There have been nine deaths in Santa Rosa County, seven of those at the Blackwater River Correctional Facility and none in long-term care facilities. (On Tuesday, FDOH reported 45 deaths in Escambia County but revised that number to 44 in Wednesday’s report.)

Statewide, there were 158,997 cases including 156,288 Florida residents. There have been 14,825 hospitalizations* and 3,550 deaths. The Florida Department of Health does not have a clear standard or definition of “recovered” and does not report a number of recovered individuals.

Escambia And Santa Rosa Increase A Record 361 COVID-19 Cases, One New Death

Escambia County and Santa Rosa County COVID-19 cases set single day record increases on Tuesday, according to the Florida Department of Health. One new death was reported in Escambia County for a total of 45.

Escambia County cases increased by 250 to 1,952. Santa Rosa cases were up by 110 to 593.

Of the test results returned on Monday, 10.5% were positive in Escambia County and 22.4% were positive in Santa Rosa County.

Of the 45 deaths in Escambia County,  34 have been long-term care facility residents or staff. There have been nine deaths in Santa Rosa County, seven of those at the Blackwater River Correctional Facility and none in long-term care facilities.

Statewide, there were 152,434 cases including 149,781 Florida residents. There have been 14,580 hospitalizations* and 3,505 deaths. The Florida Department of Health does not have a clear standard or definition of “recovered” and does not report a number of recovered individuals.

Shots Fired When Walnut Hill Man Finds Burglar Inside His Home

Shots were fired after a Walnut Hill man arrived home to find a burglar inside Sunday on Highway 97.

The resident returned to his home to find the front door open and a man his inside his home. The homeowner demanded the suspect exit and fired shots into the ground, according Amber Southard, spokesperson for the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

The burglar then got into a physical altercation with the man.

The suspect was taken into custody by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. His name was not immediately available as he was was transported and booked into the Escambia County Jail.

There were no injuries in the incident in the 8100 block of Highway 97 just north of Wiggins Lake Road.
