Paid Parking Returns Today To Downtown Pensacola
October 5, 2026
Paid parking resumes today in downtown Pensacola, ending a temporary suspension put in place during the Reimagine Palafox construction project.
The return of enforcement introduces new free parking days, adjusted hourly rates, localized rule changes, and an initial educational grace period where drivers will receive warnings rather than immediate fines.
Under the updated schedule taking effect Monday, October 5, street parking is free on Sundays and Mondays. Enforcement applies Tuesday through Saturday, with rates structured as follows:
- Tuesday through Thursday: $1 per hour.
- Friday: $1 per hour until 6 p.m., increasing to $1.75 per hour after 6 p.m.
- Saturday: $1.75 per hour all day.
- Jefferson Street Parking Garage: $1.75 per hour at all times (excluding special event rates).
- Sundays, Mondays, and Federal Holidays: Free.
Parking also remains free for vehicles displaying a valid disability placard or license plate. Drivers making short trips can use 30 minutes of free parking in the surface lot adjacent to the Jefferson Street Parking Garage.
Payment Methods And The ParkMobile App
Drivers have three primary methods to pay for city-managed parking:
- ParkMobile App: Users can download the free mobile app, enter the two-digit zone number posted on street signs, select parking duration, and pay. The app allows motorists to extend parking time remotely, receive expiration alerts, use GPS to locate open areas, and save up to five license plates per account. A transaction convenience fee applies.
- Text to Pay: Drivers can text “PARK” to 77223 to select time and complete payment through a smartphone browser without downloading an application.
- Pay Stations: Walk-up kiosks are located along street corridors and garages. Pay stations accept credit cards, coins, and paper bills, though machines do not provide change.
Drivers do not need to display paper receipts on their dashboards. Parking enforcement ambassadors verify payments electronically by scanning license plates.
Because ParkMobile is also used by privately owned parking lots downtown, city officials noted that payments are not transferable between private lots and city-owned spaces. Drivers can verify municipal spaces by checking for blue signs displaying two-digit zone numbers; private facilities generally use different numbering formats and set their own enforcement policies.
If a driver accidentally enters the wrong two-digit zone number in the ParkMobile app, the session remains valid across other city-owned street spots of the same type for that paid duration, but it cannot be transferred between street parking, the parking garage, or boat ramp lots.
Space Adjustments And Discount Programs
The city added 53 spaces to its free downtown inventory, including spaces along Chase Street (Zone 78) and West Intendencia Street (Zone 67, free after 5 p.m. on weekends). On Main Street between Baylen and Tarragona streets, 48 spaces previously limited to two-hour parking have transitioned to open parking at $1 per hour.
Two targeted rate programs are also available:
- Senior Pass: Drivers aged 65 and older can purchase a $10 monthly pass tied directly to their license plate number, allowing unlimited parking in any city-owned space—including the Jefferson Street Parking Garage—without requiring mobile app check-ins. The pass is available to both residents and non-residents.
- Resident Discount: City of Pensacola residents can register annually for $5 to receive a discounted rate of 75 cents per hour when paying through the ParkMobile app.
Registration for permits and discount programs is handled through ParkPensacola.com.
Enforcement And Inventory
During the initial transition, the city is focusing on public education. Drivers parked without paying will receive warning notices rather than citations to allow time to adapt to the returning rules. When active ticketing resumes, the fine escalation schedule will reset every six months rather than every 12 months.
City-controlled parking accounts for less than 15 percent of the total downtown parking supply, with approximately 1,600 municipal spaces remaining free year-round. According to city data, Escambia County and out-of-town visitors account for approximately 83 percent of downtown parking sessions, while city residents account for 17 percent.
