Cantonment Wife Charged With Attempted Homicide In Screwdriver Stabbing, Husband Jailed On Gun Charge

October 4, 2026

New details have emerged regarding a domestic disturbance last week in Cantonment that left a husband injured and both spouses behind bars on felony charges.

Susanna Wright, 61, is charged with attempted homicide with domestic violence, while her husband of 20 years, 51-year-old William Bradley Wright, is charged with possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted Florida felon.

As we previously reported, the incident occurred late at the couple’s camper residence in the 100 block of River Annex Road. Newly released Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrest reports detail the conflicting statements given to deputies at the scene.

According to the reports, deputies responded to the camper after Susanna Wright called 911 reporting an altercation involving a firearm and a stabbing.

An ECSO deputy wrote in an arrest report that Susanna Wright appeared heavily intoxicated and was crying when law enforcement arrived. She told deputies that an argument started because she believed her husband called her a derogatory name. She initially stated he pulled a handgun on her, prompting her to stab him with a Phillips-head screwdriver. During questioning, the deputy noted she shifted her statement, saying she stabbed him over the name-calling, saw the firearm, and then stabbed him again. An arrest report also notes Susanna Wright alleged that William Wright grabbed the handgun and held it to her head, before pointing out to law enforcement that he is a convicted felon not legally permitted to possess firearms.

Deputies reported finding William Wright bleeding from three separate fresh puncture wounds: one to his left temple near his eye, one to his left back near his lung, and a third to his left shoulder blade where the tool deflected. The deputy noted the wounds appeared non-life-threatening, and William Wright refused medical treatment at the scene.

In a sworn statement to deputies, William Wright offered a contrasting account. He stated his wife had been drinking heavily, blacked out, and suddenly attacked him without provocation while he was lying on his side in bed because she believed he had insulted her, which he denied doing. He said the stabbing struck his back and head, knocking his glasses off.

Stating he was in fear for his life, William Wright told a deputy he grabbed an unloaded tan and silver Ruger P90DC .45-caliber handgun resting on the bed and racked the slide to scare her off and stop the attack. He maintained that he never pointed the weapon or threatened her with it.

A deputy located and seized the Phillips-head screwdriver from inside the camper’s sink. During a consented search of the camper, an ECSO deputy reported finding the Ruger handgun on the bed, alongside a magazine loaded with .45-caliber ammunition and a loose round next to the firearm.

A criminal history check confirmed William Wright is a convicted Florida felon whose civil rights have not been restored, leading to his arrest for weapons possession.

Both Susanna Wright remains in the Escambia County Jail with no bond, while William Wright remained in jail with bond set at $25,000.
