The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a hit-and-run driver who triggered a four-vehicle chain-reaction crash on Highway 29 near West Detroit Boulevard on Monday, September 28.
FHP said Sunday that the the crash occurred at approximately 2:59 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 29 just south of West Detroit Boulevard.
Investigators said two SUVs and a pickup truck pulling a trailer were traveling north in the second lane, while a fourth SUV was stopped facing north in the third lane. When the 48-year-old Molino driver of the pickup truck came to a stop, the SUV behind him began slowing down. A third SUV failed to slow down, colliding into the stopped and slowing traffic.
The driver of the SUV that caused the crash fled the scene immediately following the collision.
No injuries were reported among any of the drivers or passengers involved, which included a 45-year-old man from Molino, a 55-year-old Cantonment man, and several Pensacola residents.
During the investigation, troopers obtained video footage from the pickup truck’s dash camera as well as surveillance cameras from Carpenter’s Campers and Ridgeline Roofing.
The suspect vehicle is identified as a 2017 to 2018 silver Hyundai Santa Fe with an unknown Florida license plate. It sustained front-end damage and may have black paint transfer.
The driver is described as a white male, approximately in his late 50s or older.
