Driver Crashes Into Highway 97 Cotton Field

No one was found around a vehicle that rolled over into a cotton field Tuesday afternoon south of Walnut Hill.
The vehicle was apparently southbound about a half mile south of Tungoil Road when the driver lost control, crossed a ditch and ran into the cotton field. The vehicle then became airborne and overturned, coming to rest upright about 40 feet into the field.
There was no one around the vehicle when first responders arrived on scene, and volunteers searched the field for a possible victim.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating. The Walnut Hill Station of Escambia County Fire Rescue and Escambia County EMS also responded.

No Injuries In Cantonment Highway 29 Wreck

There were no injuries reported in a Tuesday wreck in Cantonment that left one vehicle in the median sitting on just three wheels.
The crash occurred on Highway 29 in front of International Paper about 11:30 a.m.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.

Construction Begins On New Navy Federal Recreation Center

Site work is underway on the new Navy Federal Recreation Center just west of the credit union’s campus on Nine Mile Road.
“I am thrilled to see this work underway,” said Kara Cardona, executive vice president of Navy Federal’s Greater Pensacola Operations. “As we continue to welcome back our team members to campus, this recreation facility will play an important role in giving our teams a place to connect and enjoy those moments that matter. We also see this supporting our organization’s focus of employee wellness.”
The Navy Federal Recreation Center will feature a wide variety of ways for people to enjoy the outdoors. The design includes: walking trails, recreation fields, basketball court, a volleyball court, yoga space, a pavilion and some open spaces. The project will also allow the credit union to add parking spaces.
Escambia County Board of County Commissioners agreed to sell the land, which had been acquired to facilitate quality of life improvements, amenities and job growth, to Navy Federal in 2019. In return for the ability to purchase 98 acres adjoining its campus, Navy Federal committed to the creation of 300 new jobs, which was fulfilled in 2021, and also agreed to providing some public access to the recreation area when not in use by the credit union.
“We are on pace to complete the project by the middle of next year, said Kelly Osburn, facilities manager at Navy Federal. “Amenities, including walking trails and open spaces, would be available to the public during the park’s operating hours. Other features, ranging from the pavilion and ball fields, may be reservable by the public when not in use by the credit union, similar to how Escambia County manages reservable recreation and outdoor space.”
“The Navy Federal Recreation Center will be the perfect complement to the $1 billion investment we’ve made in our Pensacola campus. We feel the community will really benefit from the amenities they’ll be able to enjoy once the park opens next year,” Cardona said.

Christmas In July Toy Giveaway Saturday In Walnut Hill

A Christmas in July Toy Giveaway will be held Saturday, July 30 from 9-11 a.m. at the Walnut Hill Community Center.
The event is for children ages 2-17 in the Walnut Hill area, and pre-registration is required. Text the name of the responsible adult, the number of boys or girls and their ages to (850) 501-8217.
Children must be present and accompanied by a parent for this youth and family community outreach.
The toy giveaway is sponsored by Youth and Family Community Outreach, Good 360, Toys for Tots, and Renovot.

Five Escambia Volunteer Firefighters Earn State Certification

Five Escambia County volunteer firefighters recently earned their certification.
The five volunteers — Christianna Barry, Jeff Carden, Chris Knezienski, Nate Montgomery and Anna Niedermeyer — completed 206 hours of training through online courses and practical evolutions.
“I want to welcome these men and women to the ECFR family and thank them for their willingness to serve their communities and dedication to complete many hours of training to attain their certifications,” said Escambia County Fire Rescue Deputy Fire Chief Paul Williams. “We hope they will spend many years with ECFR and continue their training throughout their time with us.”
The five also completed the following training:

- Cancer Prevention Training
- FL-130 Wildland Firefighter Training
- FL-180 Human Factors in Wildland Fire Service
- FL-190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior

No Serious Injuries In Highway 95A Crash Near Kingsfield

There were no serious injuries reported in a single vehicle wreck Monday afternoon on Highway 95A south of Kingsfield Road. A driver lost control and crashed into a ditch.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating. The Ensley station of Escambia County Fire Rescue responded, along with Escambia County EMS.

FDOH-Escambia Monitoring Nationwide Monkeypox Outbreak, But Individual Risk Remains Low

The Florida Department of Health in Escambia County says they are monitoring the nationwide monkeypox outbreak, with cases in at least 43 states and Washington, D.C.
To date, there have been no monkeypox-related deaths outside of endemic countries.
“The risk of monkeypox to the general population remains low.,” FDOH-Escambia said Monday evening.
In the event of a monkeypox case, FDOH- Escambia will conduct epidemiological investigations to notify possible exposures and offer potential post-exposure prophylaxis. FDOH- Escambia will offer the monkeypox vaccine to high-risk groups as doses become available from the federal government.
Human-to-human transmission generally requires prolonged, face-to-face contact, direct contact with lesion materials, or indirect contact with lesion materials through contaminated items, such as contaminated clothing. Therefore, the risk of exposure remains low.
Blue Wahoos And Marcus Pointe Baptist Church To Hold ‘Baptisms And Baseball’

The Blue Wahoos and Marcus Pointe Baptist Church have partnered to hold “Baptisms And Baseball” on Sunday, July 31 at Blue Wahoos Stadium. Following the Blue Wahoos game against the Mississippi Braves that afternoon, any interested fan in attendance will have the opportunity to be baptized by Marcus Point Baptist Church on the field at the stadium.
“We’re excited to partner with Marcus Pointe Baptist to bring this first-of-its-kind event to our ballpark,” team president Jonathan Griffith said. “The idea actually originated with my six-year-old son who came home from church one day and said he wanted to be baptized. I asked where and he said ‘at the ballpark!’ We called Marcus Pointe to see if it would be possible and we’re excited to be able to offer the opportunity to any interested fan.”
The Blue Wahoos game that afternoon will begin at 4:05 p.m with the baptism event following the game’s conclusion.
Tickets are required for the game, but there is no fee to participate in the baptism event. All participants in “Baptisms And Baseball” will receive an exclusive t-shirt from Marcus Pointe Baptist Church.
Vehicle Crashes Into Wooded Area On Highway 95A, One Critically Injured

One person was critically injured in a single vehicle wreck Monday morning on Highway 95A.
The passenger car crashed into a wooded area south of Archer Road about 10 a.m. Minor extrication was required to remove the driver from the vehicle.
The Cantonment and Ensley stations of Escambia County Fire Rescue and Escambia County EMS responded, and the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.

Three Injured In Highway 29 Wreck In Molino
July 25, 2022
Three people were injured in a late night wreck Sunday in Molino.
The crash happened about 11:30 p.m. on Highway 29 near Duxbury Avenue.
Three people were transported by Escambia County EMS; none of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating and has not released further details.
The Molino Station of Escambia County Fire Rescue also responded.
