Citizens can call (850) 595-3550 a selection option 6. That will connect callers directly with an Escambia County Building Services staff member during regular business hours.

Why Not Just Cook S’mores In A Solar Oven? These Bratt Fourth Graders Did.

When it’s a hot day in Florida, why not just cook s’mores in a solar oven? Fourth grade students at Bratt Elementary School did.
They constructed solar ovens and successfully cooked s’mores outside, all in the name of STEM (science, technology, engineer and math) education.

Teresa “Terri” Ann Waller

Mrs. Teresa “Terri” Ann Waller, age 61, passed away, Wednesday, September 21, 2022 in Mobile, AL. She was a resident of Flomaton, AL. and resided the past 25 years in Atmore, AL. She was employed with Creek Indian Enterprise the past 10 years. She was a very dedicated hard worker and really loved her job.
Mrs. Waller enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved the Thursday night dinner dates with her husband. She enjoyed going out on the water boating, riding motorcycles, and going to the flea markets. She enjoyed going to parades especially “Mardi Gras”. She was always upbeat and never met a stranger.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward Raymond (Martha Ann O’Bannon) Carden, and husband, Jerry Waller.
She is survived by her loving husband of 13 years, Jim Fulford, of Atmore, AL; two daughters, Amanda (Darrell) Glover, of Jay, FL; Tiffany (Zac) Hamm, of Crestview, FL; one brother, Rusty (Frances) Carden, of Brewton, AL; one sister, Robin Johnson, of Brewton, AL; seven grandchildren, Landon Bondurant, Bentley Glover, Bailey Glover, Hunter Glover, Kynslee Glover, Addyson Hamm, Ava Hamm, Amy Lynn Collier, Brad Fulford, Rosie Blanchard, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral service will be Monday, September 26, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Petty-Eastside Chapel funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Tony Richburg officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 26, 2022 from 1:00 PM until service time at 3:00 PM at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.
Pallbearers will be Darrell Glover, Zac Hamm, Chad Coburn, Christopher Coburn, Josh Carden, and Jamie Gafford.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Bethea, and Cecil Arthur.
Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Blue Wahoos Complete Comeback To Force Decisive Game Three With Biscuits

Trailing 5-0 with time running short to save their season, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos charged back in the late innings to defeat the Montgomery Biscuits 6-5 on Thursday night and force a winner-take-all Game Three.
Nasim Nuñez came through with the biggest hit of the night, hitting his first Double-A home run in the bottom of the eighth to put Pensacola ahead for good.
Eury Pérez allowed four runs over 3.0 innings as the Biscuits took an early lead for the second game in a row. Kameron Misner grounded an RBI triple into the right field corner and Kyle Manzardo lifted a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead in the first inning, and an Alika Williams sacrifice fly was followed by a Brett Wisely RBI double in the second to put the Biscuits ahead 4-0.
Pérez was replaced by Patrick Monteverde in the fourth, and Jordan Qsar greeted him with a solo home run to extend Montgomery’s lead to 5-0. But the lefty settled in, pitching into the eighth without any further damage to keep the game within reach.
Biscuits starter Sean Hunley allowed only an infield single over his first 5.0 innings, but finally cracked in the sixth as Davis Bradshaw hit an RBI double to get the Blue Wahoos on the board. Thomas Jones hit a two-run homer to draw the Blue Wahoos within a pair at 5-3.
In the seventh, the Blue Wahoos pounced on former teammate Josh Roberson to tie the game 5-5 on a two-out, two-run single from Bradshaw. Sean Reynolds (W, 1-0) stranded an inherited runner in the top of the eighth to preserve the tie.
Nuñez, who had hit only two home runs in his professional career, launched a solo blast over the right field wall against Chris Gau (L, 0-1) to give the Blue Wahoos their first lead of the night. Reynolds allowed a leadoff single in the ninth, but coaxed a game-ending double play from Blake Hunt to close it out.
The Blue Wahoos will play the decisive Game Three of the Southern League Division Series against the Montgomery Biscuits on Friday night.

All In Credit Union Coming To Century In Former Pen Air FCU Location

A new credit union is coming to Century.
The former Pen Air Federal Credit Union building in Century has been sold to All In Credit Union, which has 28 branches in Alabama and Florida.
Pen Air members will be able to use the All In Century branch to conduct transactions on their existing accounts in a face-to face setting. Pen Air’s recently upgraded “LIVE” machine will remain, allowing members to manage their account through two-way video technology while also providing extended service hours and 24/7 ATM access.
“This new alliance is about enhancing lives in our Century community,” says Delbert Lee Morgan, Pen Air Federal Credit Union’s president and CEO. “It’s a perfect example of the credit union movement – people helping people. Our members will continue to receive the secure, convenient Pen Air experience they’ve come to depend on. Pen Air has served Century residents for 25 years and remains committed to providing enhanced financial solutions. We are confident that by bringing All In into the Century community, everyone wins.”
Pen Air closed their Century branch lobby and drive-thru late last year, leaving behind two ATMs. At the time, Pen Air said an “overwhelming majority” of members now use online banking, a mobile app and other digital services when possible.
Pen Air’s branch closure left Century without a financial institution in the town.
“All In Credit Union is pleased to join the Century community as a new financial partner. We look forward to establishing close ties with those who live and work here as we work together to achieve great things,” said Bobby Michael, All In president and CEO.
Pen Air Communications and PR Specialist Mallory Wilson said, “The All In branch will act as a shared branch location, so no fees will be incurred by Pen Air members utilizing the All In branch once they open. Pen Air members will not be impacted during the transition.”
No opening date for All In has been announced in the 2,400 square foot building at 8460 North Century Boulevard.
All In has more than 153,000 members worldwide and reports $2.3 billion in assets. Pen Air also has $2.3 billion in assets.

Accident Victim Located In Field, About 2.5 Hours After Highway 29 Wreck

An accident victim was located in a field about 2.5 hours after a wreck on Highway 29 in McDavid Wednesday night.
The adult male wrecked his vehicle on Highway 29 near Black Road, just north of Bogia Road. A passerby discovered the truck in a ditch with no one around about 8:45 p.m. Officials said the man called his wife and asked for help, but she lost contact with him. It was determined that he had apparently wandered into a wooded area.
First responders searched for the accident victim using a drone and a K-9 from the Century Correctional Institution.
The man was located about 11:25 p.m. He was evaluated by Escambia County EMS and refused transport to the hospital.
The McDavid Station of Escambia Fire Rescue and the Escambia County Sheriff’s also responded.

Additionally, retired Escambia County Fire Rescue captain Craig Ammons was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Ammons served the citizens of Escambia County for 36 years as a first responder before retiring from the county in December 2021.

New Opioid Recovery Program Launch Announced In Escambia County

The launch of the Coordinated Opioid Recovery (CORE) program was officially announced in Escambia County on Wednesday.
As of this week, Escambia County EMS had responded to 1,525 overdoses since January 1.
Escambia County is one of just seven counties in the state to be included in the first phase of the project that we first reported in August.
The CORE project is the first of its kind in the U.S. It is a comprehensive approach that expands every aspect of overdose response and treats all primary and secondary impacts of substance use disorder.
The program launch announcement was made by Florida Department of Health-Escambia Administrator Marie Mott, alongside Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo, Secretary of the Florida Department of Children and Families Shevaun Harris, FDOH Deputy Secretary for Health Dr. Kenneth Scheppke, Escambia County District 4 Commissioner Robert Bender. Escambia County EMS Chief David Torsell, and CEO of Community Health Northwest Florida Chandra Smiley.
