Three Home Runs As Wahoos Win Third Straight

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos brought home eight runs on three home runs as they won their third straight ballgame on Thursday night, defeating the Rocket City Trash Pandas 9-8 to pull back to the .500 mark.
Ray-Patrick Didder hit the club’s first grand slam of the season, Santiago Chávez blasted a three-run homer in his return to Pensacola, and Jerar Encarnacion stayed hot with his team-leading eighth homer in a 3-for-4 night.
Rocket City scored three early runs against Will Stewart (W, 1-1) in the first inning, as Braxton Martinez hit a two-run double and Kevin Maitan brought home a run on an RBI groundout. Bryce Teodosio hit a solo homer in the second to put the Trash Pandas ahead 4-0.
Stewart completed 5.0 innings, working scoreless ball the rest of his night, allowing the offense to get back in the game. Didder’s grand slam in the second tied things up against Aaron Hernandez (L, 0-2), and the Blue Wahoos put two men aboard in the fourth inning before reliever Kolton Ingram served up Chávez’s three-run home run to put Pensacola ahead 7-4.
Encarnacion homered in the fifth, giving him hits in seven consecutive at-bats on the heels of Wednesday’s 4-for-4 performance. Griffin Conine got in on the act with a two-out RBI single in the sixth that proved to be the game-winning run.
Maitan and Trey Cabbage hit solo homers against Anthony Maldonado, and Teodosio hit a two-run single off Dylan Bice in the eighth to bring Rocket City within a run. Colton Hock (S, 4) remained perfect in save opportunities this season, working a scoreless ninth.
Winners of three straight for the first time this season, the Blue Wahoos are now 15-15 on the season and have pulled into a tie for first place after Montgomery was swept by Tennessee in a doubleheader.
The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Rocket City Trash Pandas on Friday.

Mincey, Blue Wahoos Cruise to 8-2 Victory Over The Trash Pandas

Early offense buoyed Cody Mincey once again as the Pensacola Blue Wahoos defeated the Rocket City Trash Pandas 8-2 on Wednesday night.
Mincey (W, 2-1) became the fourth consecutive Blue Wahoos starter to deliver a quality start, allowing just two unearned runs over a career-high 6.0 innings.
The Blue Wahoos scored four runs in the first inning against Brent Killam (L, 1-2), taking advantage of a Preston Palmeiro error to stake Mincey to an early lead. Jerar Encarnacion had the first of his season-high four hits to drive in the game’s first run, and Victor Victor Mesa capped the inning with a two-run blast for his first home run of the year.
Rocket City pushed across two unearned runs in the third on a Trey Cabbage sacrifice fly and Braxton Martinez RBI single, but Mincey kept things in check for the remainder of his outing. Encarnacion hit a two-run homer in the fifth, his team-leading seventh homer of the year, and Mesa brought home his third and fourth RBI of the night with a single in the eighth.
Jefry Yan and Andrew Nardi delivered scoreless relief for the final 3.0 innings to secure Pensacola’s second consecutive win.
The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Rocket City Trash Pandas on Thursday.

Northview Headed To Regional Final After 7-3 Win Over Paxton

The Northview Chiefs beat Paxton 7-3 Tuesday night in Bratt in the 1A regional semifinals.
Jamarkus Jefferson earned the win for the Northview Chiefs, allowing two hits and two runs in four and two-thirds innings while striking out six. Burkett threw two and one third innings in relief.
Jefferson and Wyatt Scruggs led Northview at the plate, both going 2-3. Burkett, Luke Bridges and Kaden Odom each added a hit.
Northview will travel to top seed Holmes County Friday night in Bonifay for the regional final. Holmes County advanced by beating jay 7-3 Tuesday night.

Tate Falls Short In Regional Quarterfinal

The Tate Aggies fell short in the 6A regional quarterfinals Tuesday night, losing 3-1 to First Coast in Jacksonville.
Josiah Glodfelter went six innings for Tate, giving up four hits and three runs in six innings while striking out a dozen and walking just one.
Madox Land led the Aggies at the plate, going 2-4. Clif Quiggins, Bray Touchstone, Frankie Randal, Jackson Penton and Cade Kelly had one hit each for Tate.
The Tate Aggies finished their season at 23-4.

Wahoos Blast Past Rocket City

Griffin Conine hit a two-run triple and circled the bases on a throwing error in the eighth inning, breaking a late tie and leading the Pensacola Blue Wahoos to a 4-2 win over the Rocket City Trash Pandas on Tuesday evening.
With two outs and two men on base in the eighth in a 1-1 game, Conine hit a liner past a diving Trey Cabbage in right field to put the Blue Wahoos ahead by a pair. When the relay throw to third went into foul territory, Conine completed the circuit for the biggest play of the night.
The game began as a pitchers’ duel, as Pensacola’s George Soriano and Rocket City’s Brett Kerry traded zeroes. The Trash Pandas took the game’s first lead in the third inning on an Orlando Martinez RBI single, but the Blue Wahoos turned a Conine walk and a Luis Aviles Jr. sacrifice fly into the tying run in the fourth. Soriano delivered his first Double-A quality start, striking out a season-high eight batters over 6.0 one-run innings.
Conine’s triple against Sean McLaughlin (L, 1-2) made a winner of Josh Simpson (W, 2-0), who continued his dominant run with 2.0 scoreless relief innings and has now started his season with 15.2 scoreless frames.
Eli Villalobos (S, 2) allowed a solo home run to Braxton Martinez in the ninth, but struck out the next three batters to earn the save.
The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Rocket City Trash Pandas on Wednesday.

NEP Teams Place In Mid-Season Tournament

NEP Softball placed seven teams in the top three of their division in the recent GCGSA Mid-Season Tournament.
Blue Angels took the top award, winning the 10U A bracket scoring 23 runs while giving up just three runs.

M-Braves Top Blue Wahoos, End Series With Split

Jeff Lindgren delivered a quality start in his 2022 Pensacola Blue Wahoos debut, but a four-run seventh gave the Mississippi Braves a 6-3 win in Sunday’s series finale.
The Blue Wahoos will settle for a series split and a 6-6 road trip as they return home to Pensacola with a 12-15 record.
It was a pitchers’ duel early, as neither Lindgren nor M-Braves starter Darius Vines allowed a hit through three innings. Luke Waddell broke the ice in the fourth with a two-run homer to give Mississippi a 2-0 lead, and the Blue Wahoos didn’t manage a baserunner until a Luis Aviles Jr. double in the sixth.
Trailing 2-0 in the seventh, the Blue Wahoos got a big three-run homer from Griffin Conine to take a brief 3-2 lead. Tyler Ferguson (W, 1-0) stranded a runner at third base to prevent further damage, and Mississippi took advantage of a Hayden Cantrelle error to score four unearned runs against Josh Roberson (L, 0-1) in the bottom half of the inning. Andrew Moritz tied the game with a sacrifice fly, and an RBI single from Riley Delgado and a two-run triple from Justin Dean put the Braves back in front.
Indigo Diaz (S, 2) walked and hit a batter in the ninth, but struck out Bubba Hollins as the potential tying run to end the game.
After an off day on Monday, the Blue Wahoos return home for a six-game series against the Rocket City Trash Pandas on Tuesday.

Regional Baseball, Softball Playoff Games Announced For Tate, Northview

Regional playoff baseball and softball schedules have been announced.
6A Baseball
In 6A baseball, No. 1 seed Pace will host No. 8 Forest (Ocala), and No. 5 Tate will travel to First Coast (Jacksonville). Both games are at 7 p.m. Tuesday with the winners meeting on May 13 in the regional seminfinal.
1A Baseball
In 1A baseball, No. 1 seed Holmes County will host No. 4 Jay, and No. 2 Northview will host #3 Paxton. Both games will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 10. The winners will play in the regional final on May 13.
1A Softball
In 1A softball, No. 1 seed Jay will host No. 4 Northview and No. 2 Holmes County will host Paxton on Thursday, May 12 in the regional semifinal. The winning teams will meat in the regional final on May 17.

McCambley And McIntosh Lead Blue Wahoos To 3-1 Win

Zach McCambley had his best start of the year and Paul McIntosh delivered yet another clutch hit as the Pensacola Blue Wahoos defeated the Mississippi Braves 3-1 on Saturday night.
The Blue Wahoos jumped ahead 1-0 right away in the first inning, as Hayden Cantrelle hit a leadoff double and scored on a Jerar Encarnacion sacrifice fly against Mississippi starter Freddy Tarnok.
McCambley (W, 1-2) allowed back-to-back doubles to Michael Harris II and Luke Waddell to begin his outing, but retired 17 of his final 18 batters with only a second-inning walk breaking up his dominant streak. The righty completed 6.0 innings for the first time this season, striking out a season-high eight batters.
Tied 1-1 in the sixth, the Blue Wahoos got a leadoff single from Cantrelle against M-Braves reliever A.J. Puckett (L, 0-3) and four consecutive two-out singles to take a 3-1 lead. McIntosh scored Cantrelle with an RBI single, then scored from first on a Griffin Conine hit to give Pensacola all the runs they would need.
After McCambley departed, Jefry Yan stranded two runners in scoring position in the seventh and Andrew Nardi (S, 2) earned a six-out save.
The Blue Wahoos improved to 12-14 on the season, remaining 2.5 games behind first place Montgomery and setting up an opportunity to win their first series of the season in Sunday’s finale.
