Cottage Hill Boil Water Notice Rescinded: Contractor Hit Water Main In McDavid

UPDATE: THIS BOIL WATER NOTICE WAS LIFTED 9/30 AFTER TESTING SHOWED THAT THE WATER WAS SAFE TO DRINK.
A contractor working in McDavid Tuesday hit a water main causing a water outage for Central Water Works customers from South Century Boulevard to Byrneville Road.
The leak was valved off and water service returned to most customers in the area within the hour.
A precautionary boil water notice is in effect until further notice.
The utility is advising, as a precaution, that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative bottled water may be used.
This precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until the problem has been corrected and a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink.
Customers can monitor their phone, texts and emails from Central Water Works, and this story will be updated when the boil water notice is lifted.
ECSO: Century Man Was Pushing Stolen Shotgun In Shopping Cart Along Road In Bratt

A Century man is facing charges after deputies spotted him pushing a shopping cart containing a shotgun along a rural roadway near Bratt.
Rudy Matthew Lamar Marquardt, 28, was pushing the shopping cart on C.W. Carraway off Highway 4, about 1.5 miles east of Northview High School.
A Winchester 12-gauge shotgun was in the shopping cart, according to an arrest report. Records indicated that it was stolen from Memphis, Tennessee.
After his arrest, deputies found two Alprazolam pills in Marquardt’s pants pocket along with a straw made from a writing pen, the report continues. In the shopping cart, they found “smoking apparatus” with marijuana residue.
Marquardt was taken to the ECSO precinct in Century where he started showing signs of a possible overdose and was transported to Jay Hospital, the report states.
Marquardt was arrested this week on outstanding warrants from the February 22 incident. He remained in the Escambia County Jail Friday morning without bond.
25 Local Troopers Deploy To Assist With Hurricane Ian Recovery

Twenty-five state troopers from the local district has been deployed to the path of destruction left behind by Hurricane Ian.
The troopers are part of the Florida Highway Patrol Troop A, which serves counties including Escambia and Santa Rosa.
They hope to provide relief and assistance with chainsaw, rescue and recovery teams.

ECFR Beulah Volunteer Firefighters Helping With Hurricane Ian Response

Two Escambia County Fire Rescue volunteers with the Beulah Fire Station deployed Thursday to help with Hurricane Ian rescue and recovery.
In Beulah’s “Tanker 2″, they first traveled to Chipley to join a strike team before heading to south Florida. The volunteers are firefighter Chris Kneziensk (pictured left) and Assistant District Chief Yoshimi Core.

Fall Tradition: Pumpkins Have Arrived At Cantonment Pumpkin Patch

It’s a sure sign of fall in Cantonment.
The pumpkins have arrived at the Allen Memorial United Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch.
Pumpkins of all shapes and sizes are available under the big tent on Highway 29 near Neal Road from 10:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and 1-6 p.m. on Sundays.
The Allen Memorial United Methodist Men have sponsored the Pumpkin Patch since 1995.
The Northview High School NJROTC took part in a community service project to unload the pumpkins and place them under the tent.

Gov. Ivey Announces Flomaton To Receive $250,000 For Paving, Drainage Projects

Gov. Kay Ivey has announced that Flomaton will receive $250,000 in state funding from increased gas taxes for a road project.
The Rebuild Alabama project will pay for resurfacing and drainage improvements on Hillview Drive, Titi Street, College Street and Alley 5 for a total of 8-tenths of a mile.
The Rebuild Alabama projects are funded by $10 million off the top of the state’s share of new gas tax revenue for local projects.
“Three years ago, I promised the people of Alabama that every single penny would go to road and bridge projects, and we are seeing that the proof is in the pudding,” Ivey said.
Blue Wahoos Return Home With The Southern League Championship Trophy

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos returned home late Thursday afternoon from Kodak, Tennessee, with a little extra hardware.
As they exited their bus at Wahoos Stadium, the setting sun was glistening off their new Southern League Championship trophy.
The Wahoos beat the Tennessee Smokies 11-4 Wednesday night to claim the title as they wrapped up their 10th anniversary season.

Driver Recovering After Crashing Into The Back Of A Dump Truck
September 29, 2022
One person is recovering after slamming their vehicle in the back of a dump truck Thursday near Molino.
The driver of a passenger car was eastbound on Highway 196 approaching the intersection of Highway 95A when they crashed into the dump truck. The driver of the car was transported to an area hospital by Escambia County EMS.
Road construction work was underway in the area on Highway 95A.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating. The Molino and Cantonment stations of Escambia County Fire Rescue were dispatched.

ReImagine Cantonment Is Saturday With Free Food, Clothing And More

An outreach will be held Saturday in Cantonment to help those in need.
ReImagine Cantonment will be held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Carver Park, 208 Webb Street in Cantonment.
“We want to love on the community and meet physical needs,” said organizer Linda English. “And do it all while showing people Jesus’ love.”
The faith-based event will include a 20,000 pound food giveaway, lunch, fishing lessons with free fishing rods, free tablets, baby diapers, HIV testing, clothing, and health tests. Absolutely everything is free. There will also be free children’s activities, including train rides, inflatables, face painting, games, popcorn, and a coloring contest with three participants winning a new bicycle.
ReImagine Cantonment is a project of Doers of the Word Ministry and is sponsored by numerous churches and other organizations, including NorthEscambia.com.
“We are excited and ready to serve,” English said.
