Blue Wahoos, Biscuits Rained Out in Montgomery; Ice Flyers Playoff Postponed

Wednesday’s game between the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and Montgomery Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium was postponed due to rain.
The game will be made up as part of a 7-inning doubleheader on Saturday, with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 4:00 p.m. CT. Game two will start approximately 30 minutes after the end of the first game.
The Blue Wahoos continue their series in Montgomery against the Biscuits on Thursday. First pitch from Riverwalk Stadium is scheduled for 6:35.
Ice Flyers
The Pensacola Ice Flyers round one SPHL playoff game against the Peoria Rivermen Wednesday was postponed due to weather until 7 p.m. Thursday at the Pensacola Bay Center.
One Injured In Highway 29 Crash

One person was injured in a crash that slowed Wednesday morning commute traffic on Highway 29 in Cantonment.
The crash happened just before 6 a.m. on Highway 29 near Cedar Tree Lane. Escambia County EMS transported one person to an area hospital.
The crash closed northbound Highway 29.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating. The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and Escambia Fire Rescue also responded.

Cantonment Woman Charged With Grand Theft Of $125K U-Haul Truck

A Cantonment woman is facing felony charges after allegedly failing to return a U-Haul truck worth $125,000 that she rented in 2021.
Jennifer Lee Barnes, 40, was charged with failure to redeliver a hired vehicle and grand theft of a motor vehicle. She remained in the Escambia County Jail Tuesday morning with bond set at $25,500.
On May 17, 2021, Barnes allegedly rented a 26-foot 2018 Ford F650 U-Haul truck for one day from Eagle Riders Motorcycle on North W Street.
By January 2022, the truck was reported stolen, and Barnes was recently arrested on outstanding warrants.
Avery Stuckey Three Run Homer Helps Lift Northview 6-0 Over Choctaw

The Northview Lady Chiefs shut out Choctaw 6-0 Tuesday night in Fort Walton Beach.
The game was scoreless in the eighth inning. Avery Stuckey had a three run-homer to centerfield for the Chiefs, and Bailey Burkette was 3-4 including a three run single.
Jamison Gilman started the game in the circle for the Northview Chiefs, giving up one hit and no runs in three innings, striking out four and walking none. Mikayla went for four innings of scoreless ball in relief, surrendering two hits, striking out one and walking one.
The Lady Chiefs will travel to Milton at 6 p.m. Friday.

Military Appreciation Night: Tate Defeats Navarre 6-5

Tate defeated the Navarre Raiders 6-5 Tuesday on the Aggies’ Military Appreciation Night in Cantonment.
Neal Croom earned the win for Tate, giving up five hits and four runs in five and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking two. Zane Warrington went for one inning and Nate Conners for one-third of an inning in relief, each giving up one hit.
Cole McNair went 3-3 with three RBIs, and Ketch King went 2-2 for the Aggies. C Hassell added one hit with one RBI.
Tate honored military members Tuesday night and provided free entry with a military identification.
Up next, the Aggies will be at Pace for a 7:00 game Friday night.

Cantonment Lodge Holds Educator Appreciation Event

Cantonment Masonic Lodge #322 recently held an educator appreciation event.
They invited multiple educators from the community to join them for dinner just to say thanks for all that they do for our children and youth, according to organizers. District Deputy Grand Master Juanito Augustin joined the event.
“The brothers are always looking for ways to give back to their community and what better way than to join hands with those reaching the youth daily, tell them thank you, and find more ways to partner together in the future,” Robert Mann said.

Tate Tennis Boys And Girls Defeat Washington

Wahoos Blanked By Biscuits In First Loss of Season

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos began their road schedule with a shutout loss on Tuesday night, falling 9-0 to the Montgomery Biscuits.
Jonathan Bermúdez (L, 0-1) allowed only two runs over 5.0 innings, but things got out of hand in an ugly seven-run sixth inning against the Pensacola bullpen.
Eight Montgomery hits, four of which glanced off the gloves of Blue Wahoos infielders, made for a rocky season debut for reliever Josan Méndez in the frame.
The Pensacola offense managed only five hits, all singles, against the Montgomery pitching staff. Ben Peoples (W, 1-0) pitched 5.0 scoreless innings in his Double-A debut.
Paul McIntosh was a bright spot for the Blue Wahoos, going 2-for-4 to increase his batting average to .462 through the season’s first four games.
Free Sand For Flood Prep Available In Escambia County

Escambia County has free sand available for residents living in flood prone areas in advance of possible severe storms on Wednesday.
Winds will increase throughout the day on Wednesday, and Escambia County can expect to see wind gusts outside of severe storms of over 50 mph, and up to 80 mph during severe storms. Flash and minor river flooding are possible, with rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches expected and locally higher amounts around 6-8 inches.
The sand is available on a first come, first served basis at the following locations:
- John R. Jones Jr. Athletic Park – 555 E. Nine Mile Road
- Don Sutton Park – 2320 Crabtree Church Road, Molino
- Travis M. Nelson Park - 4541 Highway 4, Bratt
- Equestrian Center – 7750 Mobile Highway
- Escambia County Road Department – 601 Highway 297A
- Brent Athletic Park – 4711 N. W St., Pensacola
- Ferry Pass Middle School -available on northwest corner of school property on Parazine Street
- Baars Field Athletic Park – 13001 Sorrento Road, Pensacola
Residents must bring their own sandbags and shovels. Sandbags are usually available for purchase at home improvement and hardware stores.

Design Underway For New Carver Park Community Center

Design plans are underway for a new county community center in Cantonment.
The proposed 3,200 square feet modular building will be located in Carver Park at Webb and Washington streets.
For nearly a decade, the very active Cantonment Improvement Committee has operated from a much smaller 600 square feet building that was dedicated as the Carver Park Resource Center. They have used the small space for computer instruction, food distributions, after-school programs, and meetings.
Escambia County earmarked $1.6 million of RESTORE funding last year for a new Carver Park Community Center. Last month, the county commission awarded a $216,195 contract to Dean Design Build, Inc. to design the new pre-manufactured modular building like the one recently completed at Ashton Brosnaham Athletic Park.
The preliminary site design is done and is set for a pre-application meeting on Wednesday with the Escambia County Development review committee.
The new facility will be located in the area of the existing Carver Park Resource Center and will be capable of accommodating a medium to large dividable meeting room, a warming kitchen, office space, a computer area and a storage room that can be utilized for food distribution, according to the county.
“I’m proud of another substantial county investment in the Carver Park community,” Escambia County District 5 Commissioner Steven Barry said. ” I could not be more thankful for the Cantonment Improvement Committee and all the positive changes they’ve spearheaded in their community over the last ten plus years.
“I can’t wait to see all the good work they will do and all the lives they will change in the new facility,” Barry continued.
The site plan also shows a new parking area with a drive-thru covered 12×12 canopy at the rear of the building. The current resource building will be moved and remain on site.
