Escambia Teen Gets Life In Prison For First Degree Murder

An Escambia County teen has been sentenced to life in prison for a 2017 murder
Circuit Judge Jeffrey Burns sentenced 19-year old Antjuan Sanders to life in state prison for the first degree murder of Susan Midyett. Because Sanders was 17 at the time of murder, he is entitled to a review of his sentence after 25 years.
On February 23, 2017, Susan Midyett was found deceased at her home on Statler Avenue.
Deputies first believed her death to be accidental, but further investigation determined that Midyett was strangled to death and her house was burglarized. Investigators said DNA evidence collected at the scene revealed Midyett had been sexually assaulted and led to the arrest of Sanders.
Missing Cantonment Woman Located

UPDATE: THIS MISSING PERSON HAS BEEN LOCATED
A Florida Silver Alert has been issued for 75-year old Glenda Przybylowicz of Cantonment. She was last seen in the area of the 2800 block of Old Chemstrand Road in Cantonment.
She was last seen wearing a light blue shirt and jeans. She may be traveling in a 2015, silver Kia Soul, Florida tag number 411RTC. She may be traveling to Alabama.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620.
One Injured In Rollover Crash

One person was injured in a rollover crash on Highway 196 near Jacks Branch Road Wednesday morning.
The driver lost control, ran off the roadway, struck several trees and overturned into the ditch. The driver was transported to an area hospital.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.

No Injuries In 10 Mile Road T-bone Type Wreck

Four Injured In Kingsfield Rollover Crash At Exact Location Of January Double Fatal

Four people were injured in a rollover crash Tuesday night at the scene of a double fatal wreck earlier this year.
The Florida Highway Patrol said 18-year old Gavin McCollum of Pensacola was traveling west on East Kingsfield Road when he traveled off the roadway and struck a culvert near Country Place Circle. His Hyundai Elantra then hit a driveway embankment, a power pole and a fence before overturning into a yard very near a residence, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
McCollum and passengers Latrell Foster, 20, Dillion Wright, 18, and a 15-year old male were all transported to Sacred Heart Hospital with minor injuries.
McCollum was ticketed for careless driving.
The crash happened at the exact location of a rollover wreck that claimed the lives of Tate High School student Sean Banks and his sister Antoinette McCoy last January. The siblings were hit by a man allegedly driving under the influence.

Most Of Crumbling North Highway 99 Repaired In Two Days

Most of the crumbling and sinking on North Highway 99 has now been repaired.
Shortly after a $2.4 million resurfacing project on the roadway from Oak Grove to Bratt was completed in July, the asphalt began to sink, crack and literally slide under the weight of passing traffic.
Crews from project contractor Panhandle Grading and Paving spent Monday and Tuesday milling and resurfacing the problem spots. They were set to return Wednesday in order to complete the repairs by Thanksgiving, but the weather may force a delay.

Escambia County Commissioner Steven Barry said testing is still underway to determine exactly why the asphalt began to slide in spots. Those lab results are not back yet, but Barry pushed for repairs to begin this week.
The repairs are expected to cost less than $50,000, but exactly who will foot the bill remains to be seen after a cause is determined.

Escaped Alabama Inmate Now In Escambia Jail After Pursuit Ends In Wreck

An escaped Alabama inmate captured in Escambia County after a pursuit and rollover wreck on West Kingsfield Road is now behind bars.
Joseph Keith Edwards, 26, was booked into the Escambia County Jail Tuesday night on charges of fleeing and eluding and resisting an officer. The Florida Highway Patrol said additional charges of driving under the influence (drugs), reckless driving and driving without a license are pending.
Edwards and Landon Lee Gunter escaped Sunday from the Chilton County (AL) Jail. Gunter remained on the run, but the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday afternoon that there was no indication he was in the area.
After his escape, Edwards carjacked a vehicle in Saraland, Alabama. The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office spotted Edwards Tuesday afternoon near Ransom Middle and Kingsfield Elementary schools.
An ECSO deputy attempted to make contact with Edwards at the entrance to the schools when he fled. Edwards’ mother was standing at the rear the back door of the vehicle when he too off. She was dragged along outside the vehicle until she managed to free herself. She received minor injuries.
The ECSO gave chase, and the pursuit ended when Edwards lost control of the stolen Kia Spectra in a 90-degree curve on West Kingsfield Road west of County Road 97 and overturned into a ditch. He was extricated by Escambia Fire Rescue and transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released.
U.S. Marshals were also involved in the incident.
The inmates escaped sometime on Sunday. It was unclear how long they were gone before they were noticed missing during a 7:05 p.m. head count at the Chilton County Jail, according to the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office.
At the time of his escape, Edwards was held on charges of possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia first degree, and receiving a stolen vehicle.
Gunter was being held on an auto theft charge. He is described as a white male, about 5-foot 10-inches tall, and 155 pounds. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 911.

Super Turkey! Ransom Middle Teachers Dress In Costume To Benefit Needy Families

Two Ransom Middle School teachers took one for the team Friday to benefit needy families in the community.
Students made cash donations to vote for the teacher they wanted to dress in a costume all day; the proceeds were used to purchase Thanksgiving meals for Ransom Middle families that might not otherwise be able to afford one.

DeSantis Fills ECUA Board Seat Empty For 10 Months

After a 10-month vacancy, Florida’s governor has filled a vacant seat on the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority.
Tuesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Cedric Alexander to the District 3 seat that was left empty after the death of board member Elvin McCorvey on January 20.
Alexander, a Pensacola native, is a retired law enforcement executive. He began his career as a deputy with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office in 1977. He served as a police officer and detective in Orlando and Miami, as deputy chief and chief of police of the Rochester Police Department in New York and as federal security director with the United States Department of Homeland Security overseeing the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
In 2013, he was appointed chief of police for DeKalb County, Georgia and later transitioned to deputy chief operating officer/public safety director for the department. He served as deputy mayor for the City of Rochester. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology and his master’s degree in family therapy from St. Thomas University and his doctorate in clinical psychology from Wright State University.

Farm City Week Thanksgiving Meals Distributed To 800 Families

About 800 Thanksgiving meals were distributed to Escambia and Santa Rosa County residents Tuesday as part of Farm City Week.
The meals were distributed to 400 pre-registered applicants at the Waterfront Rescue Missing in Pensacola and 400 at the Milton Community Center.
FFA members, Boy Scouts and other volunteers from Escambia and Santa Rosa counties worked Monday worked to harvest fresh items for the meals Monday. They harvested produce including turnips and cabbage, bagged sweet potatoes, grits and cornmeal.

The produce was paired with all of the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal from Feeding the Gulf Coast. The University of Florida/IFAS Extension Service was also in attendance to demonstrate how to prepare and cook the produce being distributed, as well as how to can fresh produce.
National Farm to City Week is a national effort to bring about a better understanding between rural and urban people by increasing knowledge and appreciation for agriculture.
