Firefighters Battle Logging Equipment, Brush Fire Deep In Wooded Area Near Walnut Hill

September 18, 2026

Firefighters from multiple agencies spent Thursday afternoon battling a logging equipment blaze and a resulting brush fire deep in the woods off Highway 97A west of Walnut Hill.

The Walnut Hill and Molino stations of Escambia County Fire Rescue, the Florida Forest Service, and the Atmore Fire Department responded to the scene, located about two miles down logging trails near Corley Road.

Crews were hampered by the distance and terrain as they worked to shuttle water from the roadway back into the woods to extinguish the flames.

No injuries were reported.
