Century Approves Tentative $8.48 Million Budget, Steady Property Tax Revenue

The Century Town Council on Thursday night gave tentative approval to a millage rate for steady property tax revenue and an $8.48 million budget.

The council approved a millage rate of 1.0405. While higher than the 0.9204 mills that have been in place for several years, 1.0405 is the “rolled-back” rate — the computed millage rate that will generate the same amount of ad valorem tax dollars as the prior fiscal year, or about $69,916.

The council approved a tentative budget of $8,477,476.56 for FY 2026-2027, which begins October 1, 2026. That is down from $9.2 million during the current fiscal year.

A final decision on the property tax rate and budget will be made at a public hearing at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29.

    $8MM budget and all they do is provide water/sewage/gas; maybe fix a pothole or two, and what else? What do the businesses and residents get, besides the opportunity to pay municipal taxes and buy that city business license?

    It is a ridiculous waste of money to keep the failed town chartered.

    Doors should be closed and assets sold off.
