Flomaton Police Investigating After FPD Officer Accused Of ‘Road Rage’ Incident Near Tate High

The Flomaton Police Department is investigating after a social media post alleged one of its officers engaged in aggressive driving and a verbal confrontation outside Tate High School in Cantonment, Florida—more than 30 miles south of the department’s Alabama jurisdiction.
Flomaton Police Chief Justin Hetrick issued a statement late Saturday afternoon addressing the incident, confirming the department is looking into the claims.
“I am aware of a recent social media post regarding allegations involving an officer with the Flomaton Police Department,” Hetrick said. “This allegation will be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly to determine whether any department policies or procedures have been violated.”

Hetrick added that he has contacted the complainant and explained the process for filing a formal complaint, emphasizing that the department remains “committed to addressing all complaints fairly, professionally, and appropriately.”
The investigation stems from a Facebook post by a parent who described heavy traffic outside the school Friday evening while picking up her 14-year-old daughter from band at Tate as a Kickoff Classic football game was underway.
According to the post, the driver was pulling out from Tate School Road onto Highway 29 when a vehicle rapidly approached from behind. The driver alleged that the motorist began continuously blowing the horn “like a madman,” pulled in front to brake-check her, and slowed down to roughly 20 mph in a 45-mph zone.
When both vehicles stopped next to each other at a red light, the driver reported discovering that the vehicle was a marked Flomaton Police Department cruiser. The woman stated the officer rolled down his passenger-side window and yelled at her before driving away.
“I proceeded to tell him I was just as shocked that a police officer was acting like this and that I had my 14-year-old daughter in the car and he should know better to behave like this in front of myself and my child,” the woman wrote. “It was my first time seeing a police officer with road rage like that I’ve never been scared of police officers, but that was my first time I actually had a fear of a police officer.”
“This officer looked like someone waiting to explode. He was very angry and it’s scary to know someone like this is able to pull anyone over,” she posted. “And to know he’s someone with authority and he’s out there driving with so much road rage. So please be aware of this officer because I got the feeling he’s full of a lot of anger and just waiting to explode.”
After calling the Flomaton Police Department to report the encounter, the woman said she was informed that an officer with the department resides in the Cantonment/Pensacola area.

As a voter and resident of Flomaton Alabama I can tell you this. If he uses the town’s patrol car for personal use or gain then that is an ethics violation. We as tax payers here in this town would love to know why our tax dollars are paying someone to drive the towns vehicle and use the towns gas for personal use. Assuming maybe the person was at the school for some reason. But then why would we pay to have someone drive a town car that far. I remember when. Kay Wagner protested about one police chief years ago taking a car to Baldwin county. Where are they at now? Why are the council not good stewards of our money?
From most of the comments below we are definitely a society of “Guilty until proven innocent” these days, and not the other way around. I need to go accuse my old boss I didn’t like of something now.
Besides, who needs facts when we can just succumb to mob mentality! (now where did I leave my pitchfork…)

Wow! You sure are making a lot of assumptions for a retired investigator. I would think that anyone with any investigative experience would know that you should wait until both sides are presented and all the evidence available is weighed before making any presumptions. I’m not saying that the officer did or did not behave poorly, but at this point we only have allegations. I expect such from a civilian, but not someone who used to investigate criminal activity for a living. Such a rush to judgement is what gets cases overturned or dismissed and leaves victims of crimes bereft of justice.
I know exactly where this officer lives, I’ve was curious why patrol car from Ala. had a resident in Fl.
I saw absolutely nothing that said she as trying to make anyone look bad….seems to me that FPD is allowing their officer(s) to do this on their own. I am well aware of Flomaton and the good ole boy behavior as I grew up close enough to it. I am willing to bet that she was not the only one to witness his behavior that night. He apparently didn’t mind acting this way with her teenage daughter in the car. Glad she got to see such an upstanding, law abiding and calm officer to learn that they really are peace keepers there to help in our time of need. Sounds to me like the ONLY thing he should be driving for awhile is a desk, I hear they are much slower than a vehicle. Also, if someone reports anyone in law enforcement to their superiors and nothing is done, skip the “oh it was handled line” and take it to the inspector general. It might save someone’s life….people with this kind of rage don’t need a gun.
Understanding perspective is needed here. The lady thinks just was just doing a great job of driving. WHEN the opposite might be the truth.
My take on it is, she pulled out in front of someone, then drove like a idiot. That person happened to be a cop. Whether the cop did what she said, or simply pulled up next to her and advised her of how terrible of a driver she was.
Got to be able to see it from more than one angle as people are oblivious to their driving style or manners. Most dont know the rules of the road and simply point and go with zero defensive driving concepts.
Road rage is bad.. 99% of time you end up next to the same slow poke at the next red light. Best to just wave at them and mind your own business of getting from point A to point C

Police Officers have a Code of Ethics and Professionalism they swear under oath to respect. Flomaton should be duly embarrassed to have a “feared” person on their department. They must not have realized this person just needed a car not a professional job!!! Fire this nut!!!
99.9% of officers are good, conscientious, and hard working, but is also a career that can attract those who like to throw their weight around behind a badge. Most of those get weeded out sooner than later but occasionally,one or two linger for a while.
That being said, get yourselves a dash cam, folks. They aren’t expensive and can back up your side of events. We put one in that looks forward, rearward and inside, plus records sound. It came in handy when we were rear-ended while stopped for an accident in I-85.
Additionally, many have motion detection and night vision; with so many hooligans breaking into cars these days, it can give officers a lead on what happened and by whom.
I got a feeling this did not go down like this woman is stating and also got a feeling she was trying to make something happen !!! Three sides to the story his side her side and the truth !!! Stay tuned !!!!!

Assuming this is true as reported, then this road rager has no business being a law enforcement officer. People with anger management issues do not need to carry a badge or gun. No “oops” allowed.
How can you live in one state and work as a police officer in another state I thought you had to live in that same state .I’m glad no one was hurt but they do need to take him off the police force
