Highway 97 Crash Claims Life Of 29-Year-Old Cantonment Man

A two-vehicle collision Friday morning on Highway 97 near Davisville claimed the life of a 29-year old Cantonment man.
A fully loaded dump truck and an SUV collided about a third of a mile south of Meadows Road shortly before 7 a.m.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the Cantonment man’s SUV was northbound on Highway 97 as the dump truck was traveling southbound when the SUV veered into the path of the dump truck. Troopers said the dump truck driver swerved in an attempt to avoid the crash. The dump truck overturned after the collision.
The Cantonment man was pronounced deceased on the scene, and the dump truck driver, a 62-year-old Pensacola man, was airlifted by AirCare 2 helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola with minor injuries.
Highway 97 was closed for several hours for the crash investigation and to clean up tons of small gravel that spilled from the dump truck.

Updated: Three People Injured In Highway 97 Crash

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 just north of Kansas Road Friday morning.
The crash involved a car and a pickup truck around 8:00 a.m. about 3.5 miles south of an unrelated fatal crash on Highway 97.
The Florida Highway Patrol said that a pickup truck driven southbound by a 72-year old McDavid man veered into into the northbound lane and collided with a car.
The pickup truck driver received only minor injuries and refused medical treatment. The driver of the silver car, a 68-year-old Cantonment woman, was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital with serious injuries. Her 63-year-old male passenger was also transported to Sacred Heart Hospital with minor injuries.

One Injured In Crash Near Jim Allen Elementary (With Gallery)

One person was injured in a crash Thursday afternoon near Jim Allen Elementary School on Highway 95A in Cantonment.
A pickup truck apparently collided with a Chevrolet SUV on Highway 95A just off Highway 29. Witnesses said the pickup continued on Highway 95A until the driver lost control just north of Jim Allen, left the road and crashed into a tree and utility pole at the Cottage Hill Assembly of God Cemetery adjacent to the school. A utility pole was snapped in the collision.
The driver of the pickup was transported to an area hospital by Escambia County EMS.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating and has not released additional details.

West Hecker Road In Century Closed For Water Leak Repair

West Hecker Road in Century is scheduled to be closed Friday from 8 a.m. until noon for water leak repairs
West Hecker will be closed from North Century Boulevard (Highway 29) to Maple Street — near the side of the Century Chamber of Commerce.

ECSO K-9 Named After Deputy Murdered On Duty In 1966

Recently, Escambia County resident Mark Butler had the honor of meeting Escambia County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Mallory. K-9 Mallory was named in honor of Butler’s great uncle, Joseph Mallory Gassman, who was killed in the line of duty while serving with the ECSO on January 30, 1966.
Glassman was stabbed as he attempted to arrested a wanted fugitive for aggravated assault. He had served with the ECSO for nine years and was survived by his wife and three children.
The fugitive was later arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol and sentenced death but was murdered in jail by his cellmate.

Freshman And JV Triumph As Tate Volleyball Takes On Pace

The Tate Aggies volleyball program had a fantastic night against the Pace Patriots, with the freshmen and JV squads securing impressive victories, while the varsity team fought an epic five-set battle.
Pace 3, Tate 2
The Tate Aggies dropped five-set volleyball thriller 3-2 Thursday night at Pace.
The Patriots got off to a quick start, taking the first set with a score of 25-20.
However, the Aggies responded battling back to win the second set, 25-21. After dropping the third set 25-21, Tate responded with a dominant fourth set victory of 25-19 to force a decisive fifth set. Pace took the final set 15-10.
Tate 2, Pace 0 (JV)
The Tate Aggies junior varsity volleyball team made a statement with a decisive two-set victory against the Pace Patriots.
The Aggies came out strong in the first set, showcasing their skill and teamwork to win with a score of 25-19.
Maintaining their momentum and control of the match, Tate dominated the second set. The JV team closed out the match with a convincing 25-8 victory.
Tate 2, Pace 1 (Freshmen)
The Tate Aggies freshman volleyball team secured a hard-fought 3-0 victory against the Pace Patriots in a three-set match.
The first set was a nail-biter, with both teams trading points. Pace ultimately edged out the Aggies, winning a close one with a score of 27-25.
The Aggies came back strong in the second set, dominating with a score of 25-21 to even the match.
In the third and final set saw Tate won decisively with a score of 15-7, securing the match victory.

First responders from Escambia counties in Florida and Alabama attended the event. The guest speaker was former Escambia County (FL) Fire Rescue Chief Patrick Grace.

Escambia Fire Rescue Remembers 9/11

Escambia County Fire Rescue gathered Thursday morning to remember the lives lost on September 11. 2001.
Fire Chief Adam Harrison, members of the ECFR Honor Guard, and Public Safety staff joined for a moment of silence, reflection and prayer in remembrance of one of the darkest days in our nation’s history.
