Mrs. Dean McCauley Jones, age 86, of Century, FL. passed away on October 18,
2023. She was a member of the Brewton congregation of Jehovah Witness.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Winford Jones; son,
Mikel Jones; and three brothers, Clifton McCauley, Clyde McCauley and Charles
McCauley.
She is survived by four sons, Vinson(Janet) Jones of Tallahassee, FL, Gerald (Lisa)
Jones of Flomaton, AL, Terry (Pamela) Jones of Jennings, LA, and Ron (Yenny)
Jones of Mobile, AL; three daughters, Sherry (Bruce) Waters of Flomaton, AL,
Belinda (Tom) Arrington of Flomaton, AL, and Rose (Richard) Ash of Century,
FL; two sisters, Gloria Cann of Pensacola, FL and Freida Cruz of Houston, TX; 18
grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
As a Jehovah Witness, she passed with eyes of faith, peaceful and courageously.
Her victory is sure.
Services will be announced at a later date.
Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Elmore Earnest Cruit, Jr.

Elmore Earnest Cruit, Jr. age 74, died Saturday, October 14, 2023, at his residence
in Mobile. He was born December 21, 1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana and was a
longtime resident.
Mr. Cruit spent his early years in Metairie and Kenner, attending schools in
Jefferson Parish Louisiana school system. In his childhood and teen years, he
travelled extensively with his parents and enjoyed meeting new people and places.
He especially enjoyed holiday family gatherings with his Cruit and Meador cousins.
Elmore had a keen interest in understanding how things worked and provided
excellent care to his pet cat. He bowled on a team with his dad, where he became an
excellent competitor in the sport.
In 2004 the Cruits moved to Mobile to be near extended family. Elmore quickly
adapted to his new home. He introduced himself to others and became an active
team member in the l’Arche Mobile community. He also looked forward to
attending “A Time for Us” at Redemption Church.
Elmore enjoyed bowling on a unified team, square dancing with the Square Dealers,
parading at Mardi Gras and attending art classes.
Mr. Cruit is preceded in death by his parents, Elmore Cruit, Sr. and Louise Meador
Cruit. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
The Cruit and Meador families appreciate caregivers Deborah Swaggerty and
Brenda Langham and their families who have embraced Elmore with unwavering
love and support since 2009
A memorial service will be Tuesday, October 24 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church,
Mobile, 806 Government Street. Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. at Enon
Baptist Church cemetery, 11748 Old Stage Road, Atmore, AL 36502.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Light Mobile community
(formerly l’Arche of Mobile) or the charity of your choice.

Escambia Man Gets 25 Years For Producing Child Porn

An Escambia County man has been sentenced to to 25 years in federal prison after previously pleading guilty to producing multiple images and videos of child pornography. The sentence was announced Thursday by Jason R. Coody, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
“Crimes against our children are among the most sinister types of offenses and deserving of the
most significant sentences,” said U.S. Attorney Coody. “Those who produce child pornography
facilitate the abuse of children, robbing them of their innocence. We will continue to work tirelessly with our law enforcement partners to investigate and prosecute those who engage in such heinous conduct.”
In February 2023, Joseph T. Holbert, 54 was caught using hidden cameras to film two minor females invarious stages of undressing, and using an outdoor shower to clean themselves, in order to
capture images and videos of them without clothes. The victims were 8 and 9 years old. Law enforcement was alerted to this behavior and seized hidden cameras and Holbert’s cellular telephone. A forensic review of the seized items revealed the child pornography Holbert produced for his own pleasure.
“This sentencing confirms the FBI’s commitment to seek justice for our kids,” said Sherri E.
Onks, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Jacksonville. “Together with our partners, we have
ensured one less predator is victimizing the most innocent and vulnerable members of our
community, and we will continue to dedicate every available resource to identifying and
stopping those who exploit our children.”
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the
growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Launched in May 2006 by the
Department of Justice and led by the U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Divisions Child
Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), it marshals federal, state, and local resources to
better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well
as to identify and rescue victims.
Holbert’s prison sentence will be followed by lifetime of federal supervised release, and he will
be required to register as a sex offender.
This conviction was the result of an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of
Investigation, the Department of Homeland Security, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, and the
Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney David L. Goldberg
prosecuted the case.

Thursday Night Molino Crash Claims Life
October 19, 2023
A traffic crash Thursday night in Molino claimed at the life of a Cantonment motorcyclist.
The Florida Highway Patrol said a 68-year old Cantonment man was traveling north on Highway 95A when he left the roadway and lost control of his motorcycle, causing it to overturn. He was pronounced deceased at the scene of the 8:45 p.m crash near Highway 196.
There were no other vehicles involved and no other injuries. FHP no longer releases names of traffic crash victims.

Obituary
David Gilbert Jasso graced this world on November 13, 1969, and entered the arms of our Lord surrounded by his loved ones on October 13, 2023.
David, or Dave as most called him, leaves behind a vast family who held him dear. He was the beloved son of Gil and Ann Jasso, the cherished brother of Greg Jasso and Susie Murphy, and brother-in-law to Ross Murphy. His wider family circle, which includes Clyde and Kathy Waller, Tommy and Jodi Waller, Wade and Ashley Hatcher, and many loving nieces and nephews, will forever hold warm memories of him. His legacy lives on through his three sons, who resemble him so much – Chad David, Charles Gregory, and Caden Thomas. By his side was his endlessly supportive and dear wife, Amy Jasso.
Born in Sumpter, SC, Dave’s childhood was filled with travels, thanks to his father’s Air Force duty, which took them around the U.S. and beyond. Though he enjoyed many of these places, he held Texas and New Mexico close to his heart, proudly claiming them as home. He played football and baseball in his youth and in high school. His love for sports only grew stronger in the years after, through coaching and cheering for his boys.
After high school, Dave attended the US Naval Academy. He was commissioned in May of 1992 and was designated a Naval Flight Officer in July 1994. While stationed in Pensacola, he found love, marrying Amy on September 24, 1994.
Dave’s first duty station took him to Whidbey Island, WA, where he became a part of the EA6-B community, earned his legendary call sign “Assman”, and built bonds that felt like family. After a distinguished Naval career, which included support for Operations Northern Watch, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom, Dave returned to Naval Station Pensacola for a third time in March 2012, where he served as NASP Executive Officer. Dave reported to Jacksonville University Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps in April 2015, where he served as the unit’s Executive Officer.
Retirement from the Navy led Dave to a new passion. Alongside Amy and with the help of a loyal, supportive staff, he opened Cantonment Ace Hardware in 2018. The store was a mirror to Dave’s own character – honesty, friendliness, and down-home candor.
Dave’s love for family, friends, his nation, and faith were evident in all aspects of his life. He enjoyed coaching his sons in football, baseball, and lacrosse, and later took joy in cheering them on from the stands. Quiet family weekends meant the world to him, especially when they involved watching his favorite teams – the Crimson Tide and the Dallas Cowboys – with his family. Always at the helm of the grill, Dave channeled his passion to serve up barbecue at gatherings with friends and family.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30am Monday, October 23, 2023, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, with Fr. James Valenzuela celebrant. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, with full Navy honors.
In lieu of flowers, consider donating to the fight against ALK-positive cancer, a cause that is near and dear to our hearts. ALK-positive cancer is a type of cancer with no known cause and no known cure. No one should have to go through the journey Dave did.
Dave’s greatest legacy is the way he lived his life every day – his generosity to others, his quiet humor, and his very unique dance moves. We are all better for having known him. Fair winds and following seas, until we meet again.

Michael Elvin Peak, 55, of Pensacola, Florida passed away Monday, October 16, 2023. He was born in
Pensacola, Florida on January 8, 1968 to Mary Peak Parker and Elvin Peak. He was married to his
wife, Christina Sparks-Peak for 23 years. He was a member of Family Worship Center in Pensacola.
He has a passion for his family, football, and fishing.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Peak Parker, and his step-father, Legic Parker.
He is survived by his wife, Christina Peak; sister, Teresa; children, Kheyndra (Josh), Korrie (Eddie),
Rich, Hailee (David), Noah; and his grandchildren, Avery, Jacob, Raylynn, Alivia, and Rhett.
A funeral service for Michael Elvin Peak will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Faith
Chapel Funeral Home North with Pastor Julian Walker officiating. Michael will be laid to rest at
Huelsbeck Cemetery.
