Northview High School held “Meet the Chiefs” before a large crowd on a hot Friday evening.
Fans were introduced to the Northview Chiefs football team, cheerleaders and Tribal Beat band. The football teams and cheerleaders from the Northwest Escambia Chiefs and Century Blackcats were also introduced.

The Chiefs will host Baker on Friday, August 18 at 6 p.m. in a pre-season game. The regular season opens August 28 as Northview travels to Flomaton at 7 p.m.

Employee Dead, One Arrested After Shooting Inside Escambia County Home Depot

A female employee is dead and one person is in custody following a shooting Friday afternoon at an Escambia County Home Depot.
Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said law enforcement responded to a reported active shooter at Home Depot on Davis Highway at Brent Lane about 1:30 p.m. Officers arrived to find one female deceased inside the store; the victim appeared to be a Home Depot “contract employee”, he said.
“It was reported that two other people suffered minor injuries and this shooting wasn’t random. The suspect knew the victim,” the ECSO said.
The suspect has been identified as 20-year old Keith Eric Agee of Calvert, Alabama. Simmons said he called police from the Mellow Mushroom on Bayou Boulevard and surrendered. He is charged with first degree premeditated murder and aggravated battery using a deadly weapon, according to jail records. He is being held without bond.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Pensacola Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol and multiple other agencies quickly surrounded the store following the shooting.

Escambia County Superintendent Heads Back To School With Big Goals For The Year

Escambia County interim School Superintendent Keith Leonard started his first day of school by visiting several schools across the North Escambia area.
And, like hundreds of parents Thursday morning, he spent time waiting in a car rider line. Leonard used the time trying to reach a parking space at Northview High School making phone calls to make sure everything was going smoothly across the county.
Making it inside before the first period bell at Northview, Leonard said he has three big goals for the district this year.
“We’ve got three priorities that we’re going to really be focused on early,” he said. “That’s going to be behavior, positive behavior with our students. Attendance; when we have students in school I want to have them in school acting right so that they can learn. And then morale, stability, recruit, retain…being a good place each and every day. And I think that’ll only lead to academic improvement and success in school and in life.”
Last year was the first year of the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) testing in the state’s schools, and Leonard said that will be a big focus for the district this year.
“We’ll be doing quarterly reports to be able to review where all of our students are academically. There will be Individual Education Plans (IEPs) set up for our students so that they can continue to improve. And also when I use the word stability, make certain that people feel good and feel valued if know that we care about them and we love them. That we’re really all in this together.”
Leonard said that he is looking forward to the year in the interim superintendent position.
“We have a really good team that we have assembled. They are all experts in their own fields, letting them do their jobs. Then what I will do as a leader is provide them support where they need that support.”

Pet Oxygen Kits Donated To Fire Rescue by Nine Mile Vet Clinic

A local veterinary clinic has donated pet oxygen kits to Escambia County Fire Rescue.
Pine Meadow Vet Clinic on Nine Mile Road raised over $3,000 to purchase the 30 kits to be donated to ECFR stations throughout the county.

Tate Grad Cam Partrick Signs With Shorter University Baseball

Tate High School 2023 graduate Cam Partrick signed Thursday to play baseball with Shorter University in Rome, Georgia.
“The most important person in my journey has definitely been God. At the end of my senior year, I didn’t think I’d be standing here today, but God had other plans for my future and has allowed me to continue my baseball career at Shorter University. I want to use every opportunity I get to use my platform to honor Him,” Partrick said during a signing ceremony held at Tate.
The Shorter Hawks are a NCAA Division II team.

Deputy Clint Holmes Receives ‘Service Over Self’ Award From Cantonment Rotary

The Cantonment Rotary Club honored Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Clint Holmes with the “Service Over Self” award.
Holmes works from the Cantonment/Molino Precinct 5 and was nominated by Lt. Bobby Nelson for his dedication to the community and the department.
Holmes joined the ECSO about four years ago after retiring from his own automotive business.
“Clint shows his dedication by always stepping up and working for others that need off so they can be off and not told no due to shortages,” the Rotary Club presentation stated. “Clint on his days off will come in when other shifts are short without benefiting from overtime pay, or just to help out when really busy on short notice. Clint has been very reliable and is prior life experience has helped him serve the public putting service before self every time.”

Blue Wahoos Swept By Lookouts In Twin Bill

vThe Pensacola Blue Wahoos were swept by the Chattanooga Lookouts in a doubleheader at AT&T Field on Thursday night, falling 3-2 in a close game one and dropping the nightcap by a score of 10-5.
In game one, Carson Spiers (W, 7-2) came within six outs of a no-hitter as the Lookouts starter kept the Pensacola bats at bay. Luis Palacios (L, 7-5) allowed a pair of first-inning runs on a Rece Hinds RBI triple and Francisco Urbaez sacrifice fly, and surrendered another run in the fourth on a double play to give Chattanooga a 3-0 lead.
Davis Bradshaw broke up the no-hit bid with a triple in the top of the sixth and scored on a Cobie Fletcher-Vance RBI single to draw the deficit to 3-1. In the top of the seventh, Spiers got the first two outs quickly before four straight Pensacola batters reached base to keep the game alive. Pedro Garcia (S, 6) entered and struck out Jacob Berry with the bases loaded to give the Lookouts a 3-2 win.
In game two, the Lookouts got a solid start from Teddy Stankiewicz before Jake Wong (W, 1-1) took over the game in relief. After Pensacola starter Jonathan Bermúdez (L, 3-4) allowed single runs in the second and third, Chattanooga exploded for four runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to take a 10-1 lead.
Pensacola’s offense couldn’t muster much besides back-to-back doubles from Dalvy Rosario and Nasim Nuñez in the third to score a run. After singling in game one of the doubleheader, Nuñez’s double gave him a 16-game hitting streak to tie a Blue Wahoos franchise record.
Once again, the Blue Wahoos made things interesting down to their final out in the seventh. Berry, Will Banfield and José Devers each collected RBI singles to score four runs before Vin Timpanelli recorded the final out for a 10-5 final.
The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Lookouts on Friday.
