Northview Rolls To 7-0 With 49-13 Win Over Jay (With Photo Gallery)

Maybe there’s just something about the number 49.
For the fourth consecutive game, the Northview Chiefs scored 49 points Friday night as they beat Jay 49-13.

With the win, the Chiefs rolled to 7-0. But the win wasn’t as straightforward was NHS head coach Wes Summerford would like to see.
“It wasn’t a pretty one for us. We just didn’t execute well,” Summerford said. “The penalties hurt us on offense, and we’ve got to start faster on defense. When you get up in the playoffs, you’ve got to come out ready to play. Our kids know that. We’ve just got to preach that message; I think you’ve got to practice that way.”
The Chiefs were first on the board at a packed Merle North Stadium in Jay with a 2-yard dash from Jamarkus Jefferson with just over nine minutes to go in the first quarter, 7-0 Northview. Jefferson added another TD in the first, 14-0.
Northview led 21-7 at the half after another Jefferson touchdown.
Maliki Haynes had a big second half endzone interception in the second half, setting momentum for the Chiefs.
“Everytime after the first half we come out, we get a big stop and then the ball game really ends at that point,” he said. “That’s how big that momentum is…we lit a little fire under our kids at halftime and got them going.”
Northview quarterback Kaden Odom found Aiden Broadhead for a 40-yard touchdown in the third quarter, 28-7. Luke Bridges was in from 8-yards out to give the Chiefs a 35-7 advantage.
The Chiefs expanded their lead to 42-7 with a 16-yard touchdown from Wyatt Scruggs.
The Royals added one more touchdown from 38-yards out when Hayden Morris connected with Tomas Ravendo. With a missed kick, it was 42-13.
Jefferson scored his fourth touchdown on a one-yard run to seal the 49-7 win.
Northview will defend their perfect record on the road next Friday night at Marianna (1-6). They will round out the season at home against Escambia County of Atmore (currently 4-4) on October 28 and Bay (currently 6-1) on November 4.

Tate Falls To Pace (With Photo Gallery)

The Tate Aggies fell on the road at Pace Friday night, 38-9.
Tate was first on the board with a 29-yard field goal from Caleb Westergreen for a 3-0 lead.
Down 7-3, the Aggies scored again on a Taite Davis to Diego Dukes with a 14-yard pass.
The Aggies (1-6) will host Gulf Breeze (4-3) next Friday night.

John “Mike” McCall

Mr. John “Mike” McCall, age 59, passed away, Monday, October 10, 2022 in Florine, LA. He was born on July 2, 1963 in Columbus, GA; and resided most of his life in Bratt and Oak Grove, FL. He was a member of Shiloh Freewill Baptist Church and served in the United States Airforce for 9 years, with time served and support in Operation Desert Shield Storm. He was employed with Reliability Solution Training L. P.
Mr. McCall enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid Bass Fisherman in the Alabama Bass Trail and enjoyed fishing with his son Reid. He enjoyed playing softball and a member of the All Softball Airforce Team, during his time of service. He always supported all of his nieces and nephews in all their sporting events.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Myrl and Pete Smith, O.K. and Mary Gilmore, and father-in law, Calvin McCall.
He is survived by his parents, John (Maxine Gilmore) McCall, of Bratt, FL; loving wife of 38 years, Lisa McCall, of Oak Grove, FL; one son Reid McCall, of Oak Grove, FL; one daughter, Jessie McCall, of Oak Grove, FL; two brothers, Mitch (Brenda) McCall, of Molino, FL; Joey (Robin) McCall, of Walnut Hill, FL; one sister, Melissa (Carl) Ward, of Atmore, AL; twenty nephews and nieces, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral service will be Monday, October 17, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Shiloh Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Flannagin officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 16, 2022 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.
Pallbearers will be Jake Clayton, John Michael Ward, Luke Ward, Jake McCall, Logan Misenar, and Jeremi Pritchett.
Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan White, Jim Harrison, and Dan Kelley.
Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC. are in charge of all arrangements.
ECSO Responds To Fight At Ransom Middle School

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fight Friday afternoon at Ransom Middle School.
The fight involving an unspecified number of students also involved the possible battery of a law enforcement officer, according to the ECSO.
There was no word any injuries that required medical transport.
The incident happened about 3:20 p.m.
The investigation is continuing.

Gun Threat Puts Ernest Ward Middle On Lockdown

Ernest Ward Middle School in Walnut Hill has returned to normal operations following an elevated security level Friday morning due to the threat of a gun.
The Escambia County School District said the threat was unfounded.
“Someone thought they saw something. To be safe, of course, we locked it down and let our partners in law enforcement do what they do so well. We will always err on the side of caution,” Escambia Schools spokesperson Cody Strother told NorthEscambia.com.
According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, the school was on a “yellow” elevated security threat during most of the incident, after being decreased from “red”. No weapon was found during a complete investigation and search of the campus.

Cantonment Wendy’s Manager Named As One Of The Best In The Nation

The general manager at a Cantonment Wendy’s restaurant has been recognized again as one of the best in the nation.
Regina Cohron at the Wendy’s on New Market Street, just off Nine Mile Road in the Milestone area, has been recognized as one of the Top 200 General Managers for 2021 by The Wendy’s Company.
“Regina is a true leader and so deserved of this recognition; she is respected and beloved by her team and guests,” said Brian McDaniel, senior vice president for Carlisle, franchisee of The Wendy’s Company. McDaniel added “Regina is one of five Wendy’s restaurant general managers with Carlisle that were selected in the Top 200 for 2021. All five of these individuals represent the very best of Wendy’s and Carlisle.”
General managers from the entire Wendy’s global network of more than 6,900 restaurants were evaluated against set criteria, such as customer satisfaction scores and customer count growth. The Top 200 were selected by a committee comprised of franchisee and company leadership.They were honored and celebrated at Wendy’s National convention recently in Las Vegas.
Jimmie Jones Family Named Santa Rosa Outstanding Farm Family

Jimmie Jones and his family have been selected as the 2022 Outstanding Farm Family of the Year for Santa Rosa County. They were recognized at the recent Santa Rosa County Farm Tour.
Jones has been involved in farming all of his life and grew up working on the family farm. In 1970, he began building his own operation at age 20, along with continuing to work on the family farm. Through the years his operation grew to approximately 1,200 acres of peanuts, cotton, soybeans, and corn. He has also averaged 100 head of beef cattle.
He received his commercial pilots license and flew an agriculture plane for Jones Flying Service for 10 years. Smith was on the Jay Peanut Farmers Cooperative board for 10 years and served as the vice president for two years and president for five years. Jimmie received the Santa Rosa County Conservation Award in 2015.
Jimmie and his wife Becky have been married for 41 years and are most proud of their two daughters and grandchildren – Ashley and her husband Ryan Williams, Erin and her husband Rod McIntyre and their three children, Carleigh, Triple and Landon.
Over the past decade, Jimmie Jones has cut back his operation to 500 acres of cotton and peanuts, and maintains 50 head of beef cattle. He no longer has any full time employees, but his brother Joe steps in to help him during planting and harvest seasons.
ECSO Will Host Gun Violence Round Table Next Week

Following a deadly double shooting at a local youth football game, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office will host a Gun Violence Round Table event to address gun violence in our communities and explore potential solutions.
The event will take place at the Brownsville Community Center, 3200 W Desoto Street, on October 18 beginning at 5:30 p.m. Participants can submit questions or comments in written form by arriving by 5 p..m.

Convicted Sex Offender Charged With Viewing Child Porn At His Business

A convicted Escambia County sex offender is back behind bars after allegedly view child porn on a smart TV.
Frank Paul Knight, 58, was charged with 20 counts of intentionally viewing child pornography. He was on federal probation in a 2009 possession of child pornography case. Tuesday, probation officers with the U.S. Probation Office conducted a sex offender check on Knight at his place of business in the 300 block of Kenmore Road.
During the check, a smart TV was located hanging on the wall in Knight’s “personal space” inside the business, which consisted of a small living room area and a connected bedroom, according to a report. Officers noticed that several of Knight’s personal belongings were in the rooms.
During a preview of Knight’s TV, a Florida Department of Law Enforcement special agent supervisor discovered Knight’s Gmail account was associated with the TV setup, and the browsing history revealed that the TV had been used to visit a website with child pornography, the report continues.
Investigators interview six of Knight’s employees. All of them stated they knew about Knight’s personal space, but none of them used the space or the television.
Knight was booked into the Escambia County Jail without bond.
