Animal Cruelty: Pregnant Cow Found Strangled To Death (Exclusive Photos)

May 31, 2011

In what’s being called a surprising case of animal cruelty, a pregnant cow was found dragged and strangled Monday in the Enon community.

The owner of the cow found the animal dead in a pasture just behind his house on Highway 97-A Monday morning as he checked on his animals. Thin twine — often called grass string –  had been tied several times around the cow’s neck and had apparently strangled the animal as it was dragged through the pasture. The cow was found on its side, with its head upside down and its horns pushed several inches into the dirt.

For more photos, click here. (Warning: Some readers may find the photos disturbing.)

“I just don’t understand who would do something like this and why,” said the owner of the cow. “It was just senseless.” The owner last saw the cow alive in his pasture Sunday. He said he believed that the incident could have been some sort of prank gone wrong or a case of just cruelty.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. A crime scene investigator responded to the pasture near the Enon Baptist Church to take photographs and collect evidence.  The suspect or suspects in the case are expected to face felony animal cruelty charges.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP.

if u have concious and u know who did it it is your civil duty to report the person or persons who committed this crime. if u dont speak up you are just as guilty as they are and for the owners i am very sorry that this happened i wish i could help

(observation) Ya we know a lot of ropers they really can’t do what they say they can. I know that cow didn’t do that herself, if so then maybe she a better roper then u. sorry, How does that feel, the people were really hurt about there cow and as usually some people really don’ t care. So u take care and have a very nice day.

I’ve had horses & cows. If you look carefully at the photos on the other page, there are clumps of hay string in the background. It’s common for folks with cows (horse people seem to be better @ picking up strings) to drop a round bale in the field & leave it. Often the strings are not cut…animals eat around them. They end up in the scraps of hay, manure, & muck.
It appeared this cow had twine around her horns also. She may have gotten tangled on her own.

If I were the owners, I certainly wouldn’t want my neighbors or sale customers thinking I was a negligent herdsman. In my experience, I don’t know if the twine is strong enough to accomplish the dragging of a cow that size.

Just a few observations I made. This situation may not be as it has been “assumed” !!!!!

    El Campo
Thanks for bringing another view point to this, it sounds to me to be alot more reasonable theory……
I can picture the cow in its death throes struggling and leaving what appear to be drag marks on the ground. Unless of course, there are tire marks involved, LOL as usual, not enough info.
I like the Alien theory too LOL
Its too scarey to think that there is someone out there who would do this intentionally. That cow didnt die immediately, if someone did this they werent even scared of getting caught.

As an accomplised cattle man and a pretty nice hand at roping, I am called upon quite frequently to rope, from horseback, cows with haystring twine wrapped around their neck or legs and cut it off. It often looks like a bird nest it’s so tangled, and is typically wrapped several times. My point is; are you sure someone did this? I mean, it’s so sick and mean to do a helpless animal this way, is it really an act or did it just happen as a result of the cow continuously scratching on the bale of hay? It’s unbelievable some sick idiot would do something like this.

Hello WPOD, do not underestimat evil, it did not drown in the flood, I visited the Musscogee(spelling?), cemetary to pay homage to a distant relative last year, I saw on a slab the star of Moloch and the Pentagram with candles on point, aligned to the north, they are here. The subject of crimminal investigation is one I know little about, however I dont think these were satanist, just monsters.

“This is most likely the work of Satanists. Seriously, they do some sort of murder at every ritual meeting.”

What kind of baloney have you been fed? HAHAHHA. Right. Satanists.

Maybe it was ALIENS!!! They’ve been known to have an affinity for cattle.

I made the statement that they should cost the taxpayer a dollar…call it “resisting arrest” and instead of a cruiser ride, take a coroner van ride…I was wrong to say this. It really makes me no better than the person(s) who did this to begin with.

I hope they are taken off the street because I do believe the comment I made about: “If they can do this to an animal, they do this to a human. A breath of life, is still a breath of life no matter what mammal takes it”

Forgive me for the harsh reaction.

  9. Sickness on June 1st, 2011 9:55 am

This is a sick act! No matter what the reason turns out to be. The individual(s) responsible for this need to be dealt with in a manner in which, they never cost the taxpayers a dollar. Call it “resisting arrest with deadly force” when they are found and not put in a cruiser, but a county coroners van!

If a person(s) is capable of doing this to an animal of any sort, then they are just as capable to do it a human, in my opinion. A breathe of life is a breathe of life, no matter what mammal is taking it.

  10. RE on June 1st, 2011 4:07 am

Maybe the miserable punk that killed the pregnant donkey about a year ago is back out on the street. People like him are not idiots or misguided teenagers having a little fun – they are a danger to society as long as they live.

I hate this, I lock my gate, its a shame we have to remain on a constant vigil, the perp or perps were real idiot/idiots, was there evidence of a livestock trailer, how far were they going? I remember a lady on Molino road west that owned show horses. She said she fired at the two thieves with a .270win and missed, when they returned 2 nights later she fired and knocked one perp down, his partner helped him into the pickup pulling the stock trailer and they left and never came back, just put em in a hole with soda lime and forget about them I say.,

IM GLAD THEY POSTED THIS PICTURE SO PEOPLE CAN REALLY SEE WHAT PEOPLE ARE REALLY LIKE.MIGHT BE YOUR FRIEND YOUR NEIGHBOR.THIS ARE SICK PEOPLE AND NEEDS TO BE DRAGGED ACROSS THE FIELD LIKE THAT POOR COW AND BABY. A LIFE FOR A LIFE I WOULD SAY EVEN IF IT WAS JUST A COW.THEY NEED TO GO TO PRISON AND LET THE BAD PEOPLE IN THERE DO THEM JUSTICE.

  18. me on May 31st, 2011 4:13 pm

I did not go look at the other pictures and won’t….but this picture was disturbing to me. I don’t like to see dead animals (or humans) and I absolutely HATE and despise seeing a neglected animal on this or any other site….absolutely disgusting and makes my stomach and my heart hurt. I certainly hope and pray they find this IDIOT and he has to pay for the rest of his natural life for doing something so inhumane. you would think after the last fool that killed an animal was caught that this person would see what he got, but I guess folks never learn

  19. michael on May 31st, 2011 4:09 pm

people are dumb. the thing is, people are doing the very same thing to other people, dragging them behind trucks (til death) and it is rarely brought up in the news. so for those who do not like this type of thing being broadcast. dont watch, there are a lot worse things going on in your world that you arent even aware of. sorry for the animal. that was aterrible thing to do, and i hope whomever is responceable for this, receives the very same punnishment.

  20. whitepunknotondope on May 31st, 2011 3:39 pm

There is a seriously disturbed individual(s) out there. I hope he’s caught and put through some major psychiatric testing.

  21. Why on May 31st, 2011 2:44 pm

. . I just do no understand how something like this pops into someone’s head as ‘fun’. It hurts me to just look at the picture. Makes me wish I could’ve somehow caught them in the midst of this doing. It’s absolutely terrible, and heartless. A completely innocent animal. Pregnant, at that. I sure hope they do find out who did this, and spares them absolutely no mercy.

  22. RD on May 31st, 2011 12:14 pm

I would say this might be someone perhaps being vindictive. Who knows why someone would do such a terrible thing, but being cruel to animals is only one characteristic out of about 26 of a serial killer.
I don’t know how this could possibly be just for fun.
    It’s terrible and sad.
I hope the person(s) are caught soon and punished.

    regarding:
“I WISH YOU WOULDN’T POST PICTURES OF THINKS LIKE THIS”

Nothing disturbing about the above picture. It’s just a picture of a lady looking at a cow. Without context, the cow could just be lying down peacefully. With context, you know a disturbing event happened but still don’t see it in the picture.

If you went to the other pictures, you did so after being warned they might be disturbing. It was your choice either way. The event happened whether or not you want to know about it. I think it’s kind of handy to know such people are out there and to be watchful.

David knowing of far worse forms of cruelty,
    and not only to animals

    REGARDING:
“They had to have some type of equipment that made noise to move this heavy animal.”

Most likely a pickup or a four-wheeler. Possibly a tractor. If you hear those, you likely won’t even notice them. Plus, without knowing the location, neighbors might have been near or far. Without knowing the time, neighbors might have been near or far.

Trees could have blocked the view. (I wonder if Google Earth caught it.)

    David considering requirements
    –beyond depravity–of course

Ok…what is is fact or fiction…pretty or cold hard facts…if you want fluff to look at and read about my I suggest some of the local newspapers…the one thing I admire a/b William and this site is that he is NOT afraid to post what Really is going on…as for the story a/b the cow it is disgusting & disturbing…heck…my husband gets amazed at the fact when a storm comes up I want to know where those poor animals go for shelter and say I’d probably let them in my house if there was space…yes I care a/b the safety of all creatures, large and small, they have to depend on others for safety! Thank you William for an amazing job and please continue to do so!

  26. Hill on May 31st, 2011 9:10 am

The deputies can’t be everywhere when a crime is happening. They do a good job and will catch the person responsible for this crime. They don’t just handout at Tom Thumb. They are working to respond to your house if you need them. Poor cow I hate to see animal cruelty like this.

  27. Crystal Glenny on May 31st, 2011 8:56 am

Somebody had to hear something. They had to have some type of equipment that made noise to move this heavy animal. Can’t wait to see them caught. And they need to really throw the book at them. Hope someone knows something and comes forward.

O.K. no one heard a truck or something else driving around the field,, tire tracks they will find the truck or did they use something sweep out the tracks,,

    >>>I WISH YOU WOULDN’T POST PICTURES OF THINKS LIKE THIS…IT SICKENS ME TO OPEN THIS PAGE UP AND SEE THINGS LIKE THIS…MAKES ME NOT WANT TO EVEN LOOK AT NORTHESCAMBIA ANYMORE!

So Northescambia should only print pretty news? News is news, and it’s not always pretty. There’s nothing gross or wrong with the picture above. And there is warning before you click and see the other pictures and they are not even gross.

I’m glad northesdcdambia did this story. People who kill like this are dangerous and the community needs to know they are out there and what they are capable of.

If anyone sees animal cruelty or something that doesn’t seem right…call the police! They can’t stop what they don’t know about! There is a Midcounty Neighborhood Watch which meets at Aldersgate church the 4th Monday of every month…please join us and help stamp out crime! Everyone is welcome!

  32. Queenbee on May 31st, 2011 8:21 am

I would like to thank the sheriff’s dept. for conducting an investigation on this horrible crime. A lot of people would just say “it is just a cow”. The deputies in the north end of the county are awesome. I’m sure the state attorney’s office will also take this very seriously, as they do other animal cruelty cases. It wasn’t long ago that horses were found starving in this same community and an arrest was made at the scene! This county has made great strides in recent years in handling animal abuse.

  33. Kay on May 31st, 2011 8:11 am

No this is no prank gone wrong….this is a person or persons gone wrong.
I am not a bit surprised. I have seen so much stuff up here and the cops
do nothing. That is why kids and people are so mean….NOBODY CARES.
The police need to stop hanging out in the Tom Thumb and get to work.
There is so much bad stuff going on up here and we need police that
want to do their jobs. I have no doubt at several times in this (or these)
persons life SOMEONE HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT THEM (probably
many times), but nothing was done. People do not get this sick and nobody knows they are this sick. Half this town are part of the problem here, and the other half
    are their victims….

Which side of that are you on……..

  34. unchaindogs on May 31st, 2011 7:49 am

@CG..yes, this is extremely disturbing BUT I applaud William for covering the story and all the other animal cruelty stories! The community needs to know about the horrific animal cruelty that is taking place and to bury a story like this does a great injustice to the animal that suffered beyond imagination. FL has felony animal cruelty laws and the abuser can be sentenced up to FIVE years in prison and $10,000 for these crimes. Statistics bear out time and time again that people who abuse/torture/kill animals go on to abuse children, elderly, spouses, etc. Exposing these cases and prosecuting them to the fullest will make for a safer community. I think everyone would be in favor of that.

o.kay just when u think people are good we have two or more idiots that live among us. (one was the A.K.47 guy) if you are the ones that took part in killing this mans cow, which obviously is probably a part of his income or whatever!!!! Then you need to have this twine put around your neck and drug around the field. Come on people are we all so blind or scared that we do not say anything, or even give it a second thought that someone is this sick. They should have to shovel cow manure or help a cow give birth at 2am in the rain.
