Tate Aggies Fall To The Navarre Raiders 38-20 (With Gallery)

The Navarre Raiders defeated the Tate Aggies 38-20 Friday night at Tate’s Pete Gindl Stadium.
The Raiders took an early 7-0 lead with 3:25 to go in the second quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run.
A pass from Tate’s Taite Davis was picked off in the endzone by Navarre, setting up Navarre’s offense on the 1-yard line. On a big tackle, Tate’s Conner Mason downed Navarre back in the endzone for a safety, making it 7-2 with 2:35 on the clock before the half.
With no time on the clock in the half, Davis was in from 2-yards out, putting Tate on top 8-7 at halftime.

But Navarre was back on top 13-8 after returning the second half kickoff 92-yards for a touchdown.
Andre Colston added an Aggie touchdown with a 53-yard run, putting the Aggies back on top by one, 14-13 with just under 11 minutes in the third.
The Raiders improved to 3-1, while the Aggies are 1-3.
The Aggies will be off next Friday night before hitting the road September 30 to take on Milton.

Biloxi Shuckers Defeat The Wahoos

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos dropped their fourth game in a row on Friday night, falling 2-1 to the Biloxi Shuckers despite a late ninth-inning rally.
In his first Double-A appearance since going on the injured list in early August, Eury Pérez worked 2.0 scoreless innings and struck out four despite walking four Shuckers batters. Pensacola pitching allowed only four hits and struck out 15 batters, but Dax Fulton (L, 1-1) surrendered a two-run double to Zavier Warren in the third that proved to be the difference in the game.
Pensacola couldn’t crack Biloxi starter Justin Jarvis (W, 2-1), as the righty worked around six walks to toss 5.0 scoreless innings. One night after being blanked in a 1-0 defeat, the Blue Wahoos didn’t get on the board until mounting one last threat in the ninth inning.
With Ryan Middendorf (S, 1) on the mound in search of his first Biloxi save, the Blue Wahoos got a one-out single from Marcus Chiu and double from Demetrius Sims to put the tying run in scoring position. Thomas Jones brought home Chiu with a sacrifice fly before Nasim Nuñez and J.D. Orr drew walks to load the bases. J.D. Osborne fouled off several pitches before striking out to end the game.

Northview Varsity And JV Defeat Hoboes (With Photo Gallery)

The Northview Chief varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams defeated the Hoboes of Laurel Hill Thursday.
The varsity Chiefs swept the Hoboes 25-23, 25-13, 25-1. The JV Chiefs topped the Hoboes in two, 25-17, 25-15.
The Lady Chiefs will host Central next Tuesday before traveling to Pine Forest on Thursday.

Wahoos Blanked 1-0 By Biloxi

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos had plenty of opportunities, but couldn’t come through with a big hit as they fell 1-0 to the Biloxi Shuckers on Thursday night for their third consecutive loss.
The Blue Wahoos were 0-for-11 with men in scoring position, including 0-for-4 with four strikeouts with the bases loaded, as they were unable to take advantage of a strong start from Patrick Monteverde.
Monteverde, in his final appearance of the regular season, struck out seven Biloxi batters over 5.2 scoreless innings. He traded zeroes with Shuckers starter Brandon Knarr (W, 4-6) until Biloxi finally broke through in the seventh.
Jorge Mercedes (L, 0-1) stranded an inherited runner for the final out of the sixth, but issued a leadoff walk to Yeison Coca in the seventh. Coca followed with a pair of stolen bases to advance to third, and Corey Ray brought him home with a sacrifice fly to put the Shuckers ahead 1-0.
Pensacola loaded the bases in the eighth and drew two walks in the ninth, but Zach Vennaro (S, 11) put away the Blue Wahoos with back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.
The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Shuckers on Friday evening.

Blue Wahoos Silenced by Shuckers

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos dropped their second straight game to the Biloxi Shuckers on Wednesday, falling 8-2.
J.D. Osborne was 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk, but it wasn’t nearly enough as the Shuckers extended their winning streak to six games.
On short notice, reliever Andrew McInvale (L, 2-3) was asked to make a spot start for the Blue Wahoos. The righty turned in 3.0 innings, but allowed four runs in the second as Biloxi claimed the early lead and ran with it. A run-scoring error from first baseman Marcus Chiu opened the door for Corey Ray’s RBI single, turning a two-run inning into a four-run frame.
The Shuckers added more offense in the fourth against Zack Leban with a two-run home run from Nick Kahle. Osborne’s solo homer in the fourth was followed by a run-scoring throwing error from Biloxi center fielder Jackson Chourio in the fifth to draw the score to 6-2, but that was all the offense the Blue Wahoos could muster against Biloxi starter T.J. Shook (W, 4-2).
Ethan Murray hit a solo homer in the sixth for the Shuckers, and Zavier Warren capped the scoring with an RBI single in the ninth to bring Biloxi to their final lead of 8-2.
The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Shuckers on Thursday evening.

Ernest Ward Middle Defeats Atmore (With Photo Gallery)

The Ernest Ward Eagles defeated the Escambia County Middle School Eagles of Atmore 8-0 Tuesday night in Walnut Hill.
The game was tied 0-0 at the half. With 3:21 to go in the third quarter, Kintrell Brooks scored from about 65 yards out for the Eagles. With a good 2-point conversion, the Eagles took the lead.
Ernest Ward has the only middle school football program in Escambia County, Florida.
Up next, the Ernest Ward Eagles will host the Jay Royals at 6 p.m. on September 20. Escambia County Middle will host Jackson Middle on September 20 at 6 p.m.

Blue Wahoos Fall 7-2 To Biloxi Shuckers

After a successful two-week road trip to Chattanooga and Tennessee, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos began their final series of the regular season with a 7-2 loss to the Biloxi Shuckers on Tuesday night.
Zach King (L, 2-6) blew past his previous Double-A high with nine strikeouts over 4.2 innings, but allowed a two-run double to Jackson Chourio and a solo homer to Garret Whitley as the Shuckers took an early lead and kept it for the remainder of the night.
Pensacola got on the board with a Bubba Hollins RBI double in the second and a Marcus Chiu RBI single in the fourth, but that was all they could muster against Biloxi starter Carlos Luna (W, 5-5).
The Shuckers broke the game open in the sixth, scoring four runs against Brady Puckett. Jason Lopez hit an RBI single and Corey Ray hit a two-run double to turn a 3-2 lead into a 6-2 lead. Chourio, a top Brewers prospect making his Double-A debut at just 18 years old, capped the inning with a sacrifice fly for his third RBI of the night.
Josan Mendez gave Pensacola 3.0 scoreless innings of relief, but the Blue Wahoos couldn’t manage any offense against Taylor Floyd and Ryan Middendorf as the two Biloxi relievers combined to close out the game.

Wahoos Seek Local Youth Field To Renovate

For the 11th consecutive year, the Blue Wahoos and Waste Management have partnered to renovate an area youth athletic field and are accepting nominations from the community to select the field to be restored.
“We are very excited to continue our partnership with Waste Management and help renovate a local ballfield,” Blue Wahoos community relations manager Lauren Scott said. “Our mission is to improve the quality of life in our community, and helping provide children a great place to play sports locally will benefit families across our community.
The Blue Wahoos will be accepting nominations to choose a field to receive a makeover until September 20. Any local citizen or organization can submit a field by emailing Scott at LScott@BlueWahoos.com and including photos or video of the field and a short explanation of why the field should be considered. Fields must be within 40 miles of Blue Wahoos Stadium to be selected.
