Johnston Homers In Wahoos 9-1 Loss To Shuckers
May 1, 2022
Troy Johnston hit his first Double-A home run, but the Pensacola Blue Wahoos suffered their most lopsided loss of the season on Saturday night with a 9-1 defeat to the Biloxi Shuckers.
The game was within reach until Biloxi scored six runs in the sixth inning, turning a 3-1 game into a 9-1 affair. Pensacola ends the month of April with a 8-12 record, and will need to win Sunday’s finale to secure a series split against the Shuckers.
Johnston went to the opposite field for his first home run of the season, putting the Blue Wahoos ahead 1-0 in the second against starter Carlos Luna. Zach McCambley (L, 0-2) allowed an unearned run in the third on an infield error and a sacrifice fly, then served up a two-run homer to Cam Devanney in the fifth inning to put the Shuckers ahead 3-1.
Robbie Hitt (W, 1-1) allowed the Blue Wahoos to load the bases with one out in the top of the sixth, but Matt Hardy came in to escape the jam and preserve the Biloxi lead. The Shuckers roughed up Jefry Yan in the bottom of the inning, scoring six runs, four earned, to break the game open. A Devanney RBI single and Joey Wiemer two-run double highlighted the inning for Biloxi.
Parker Bugg and Dylan Bice pitched the rest of the way for the Blue Wahoos, with Bice making his 2022 debut after beginning the season on the injured list. Griffin Conine had three singles and a walk in a 3-for-3 night.

Wahoos Blank Biloxi 4-0 Friday Night
April 30, 2022
Eury Pérez struck out a career-high 12 batters over 5.0 one-hit innings as the Pensacola Blue Wahoos blanked the Biloxi Shuckers 4-0 on Friday night.
Pérez (W, 1-1) earned his first Double-A win, and allowed only four batters to put the ball in play over his dominant outing. Only a third inning double from Biloxi’s Gabe Holt prevented the Shuckers from being no-hit.
The Blue Wahoos turned a Paul McIntosh leadoff walk in the second inning into the game’s first run, thanks to a stolen base and a Luis Aviles Jr. RBI groundout. McIntosh stole two bases on the night and the Blue Wahoos swiped four, both high water marks for the team this season.
In the third, Ray-Patrick Didder went deep with a solo homer, his second of the year. That would be all the damage done against Shuckers starter Nick Bennett (L, 1-2), who took the tough-luck loss despite completing 6.0 innings for a quality start.
Josh Simpson, Andrew Nardi and Eli Villalobos struck out six more batters over 4.0 hitless innings of relief, giving the Blue Wahoos staff 18 strikeouts on the night. A seventh-inning RBI single from Hayden Cantrelle and an eighth-inning wild pitch added late insurance for a 4-0 final.
The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Biloxi Shuckers on Saturday night.

Wahoos Beat By Biloxi Again
April 29, 2022
For the second straight game, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos couldn’t provide enough offense to back up a solid pitching performance in a 3-0 loss to the Biloxi Shuckers on Thursday night.
Will Stewart (L, 0-1) turned in the team’s second quality start of the season, allowing two runs on four hits over 6.2 innings, but the Blue Wahoos suffered back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2018.
A first inning home run from Biloxi’s Freddy Zamora gave an early edge to Victor Castaneda (W, 1-1), who earned his first Double-A win for the Shuckers with 5.1 innings of scoreless, three-hit ball.
Three of Pensacola’s four hits came from Jerar Encarnacion, who raised his batting average to .366 in a 3-for-4 night. Biloxi added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh with two-out RBI hits from Cam Devanney and Jakson Reetz against Colton Hock.
Zach Vennaro (S, 2) maneuvered around an Encarnacion single in the ninth to earn the save.

Wahoos Blanked In Biloxi
April 28, 2022
The Pensacola Blue Wahoos got another solid start from Cody Mincey, but couldn’t get the bats going in a 2-0 to the Biloxi Shuckers on Wednesday night.
A two-run homer from Joey Wiemer in the first inning gave Biloxi an early lead, and Shuckers starter Tyler Herb (W, 2-1) struck out eight over 6.0 scoreless innings as he kept the Blue Wahoos at bay.
Mincey (L, 0-1) recovered to complete 5.0 innings on only 70 pitches, but the early home run was too much to overcome.
Pensacola got a pair of singles from Luis Aviles, Jr., a single from Troy Johnston and a double from Griffin Conine in their second shutout loss of the season. A trio of lefty relievers – Josh Simpson, Andrew Nardi and Jefry Yan – struck out five Biloxi batters over 3.0 scoreless innings for the Blue Wahoos. Robbie Hitt (S, 1) worked a tidy ninth to earn the save.
The game was played in just over two hours, the fastest game for the Blue Wahoos this season.
