Iconic WWII Aircraft Open For Tours, Rides At The Pensacola Airport

The distinctive rumble of radial engines from one of the rarest World War II bombers, the B-24 Liberator “Diamond Lil”, will be heard in the skies over Pensacola Sunday as she is visiting Pensacola International Airport as part of the AirPower History Tour of the Commemorative Air Force. The bomber is joined by a T-6 Texan, a PT-13 Stearman, a T-34 Mentor and a RC-45J Expeditor.
The AirPower History Tour brings the sights, sounds, and stories of World War II aviation to airports across North America each year. Visitors to the ramp will be able to view all aircraft up close, purchase rides, and tour the B-24 cockpit when the aircraft is not flying.
The aircraft are staged at the Pensacola Aviation Center FBO ramp located at Pensacola International Airport, 4145 Jerry L. Maygarden Road.
The event is open to the public from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Access to the ramp where the warbirds are parked is $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 11-17 and free for children 10 and under. Supporting aircraft will be offering rides all four days. The B-24 flies on Saturday and Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Cockpit tours of the B-24 will be available Sunday when the aircraft is done flying.

Northview Shuts Out Flomaton 10-0

Emma Gilmore pitched the Northview Chiefs to a 10-0 shutout of Flomaton in four innings Friday night.
Gilmore went all four innings, recording just one hit, no runs and no errors while striking out eight.
The Chiefs took and earl 3-0 lead when Brooks tripled on a 3-1 count.
Mary-Clayton Dawson, Makayla Golson and Aubrey Stuckey each went 2-2 at the plate. Gilmore, Chloe Ragsdale, Rylee Brooks and Kendall Alvare each tallied one hit for the Chiefs.
Jacie Himes had Flomaton’s only hit for the night. McKenna Pettis took the loss for the Canes on the mound, allowing 10 hits, 10 runs, committing nine errors and striking out one.

Update: Service Location Changed To Park West For Northview Senior Killed In Highway 29 Wreck

A location change has been announced for a Celebration of Life Service for Northview High School senior that passed away last week in a tragic head-on crash on Highway 29.
Kara Santorelli, 18, lost her life when her vehicle was struck by a wrong-way driver on Highway 29 near Quintette Road at 12:41 a.m. last Friday.
Due to another event, the service location has been moved from the Pensacola Beach Pier to Park West on Pensacola Beach.
The service will be held at 6:30 a.m. Saturday at Park West 1235, Fort Pickens Road (clikd for map). (Turn right at the light on Pensacola Beach, continue west 2.5 miles until you see the pavilions on the left. Parkin is across the street.) Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or beach towel. In the event of rain, the service will be held under the pavilions.

“Kara had the most beautiful smile and the sweetest soul. Everyone that knew her, loved her,” the GoFundMe reads. “She was looking forward to graduating in May and her future was bright! Kara loved spending time at the beach or on the boat and with friends and family. Kara worked at the local restaurant, Jimmy’s Grill, in Molino. She will be greatly missed.”

Body Found Along East Kingsfield Identified As 69-Year Old Missing Cantonment Woman

A body found three weeks ago in Cantonment has been identified as a missing 69-year old woman.
Workers in the area located the decomposed body along East Kingsfield Road, just west of Riddle Road the morning of March 3.
The Medical Examiner’s Office has positively identified the woman as Mary Louis Fountain. She was last seen on February 6 in the area of Winners Circle off East Kingsfield Road. Deputies said at the time that she may have been in need of medical attention.
Foul play is not suspected.

Man Accused Of Stealing Travel Trailer And Construction Trailer From Walnut Hill

A Pensacola man has been charged with the alleged theft of a travel trailer and a construction company’s trailer from Walnut Hill.
A 2018 Forest River travel trailer was reported stolen March 16 from Highway 97 just south of Ernest Ward Middle School. The same day, a 20-foot enclosed construction trailer was stolen from a business on South Highway 99 at HIghway 97, about a half mile from where the travel trailer was stolen.
Damien Matthew Lopez, 42, was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, grand theft from $20,000 to $100,000 and grand theft from $10,000 to $20,000.
The construction trailer was valued at $15,000 and contained construction tools and equipment valued at $40,000.
A few days later, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office investigators were made aware of evidence showing a white SUV pulling the travel trailer at the intersection of Highway 29 and Highway 97. Using a tag number from the SUV, they were able to trace the vehicle to an address on Bradley Street in Pensacola.
Deputies found the enclosed trailer at the Bradley Street address. They said it was freshly painted, but the Walnut Hill business’ logo was still visible through the paint. Investigators executed a search warrant on O’Daniel Drive in Pensacola where Lopez and numerous tools belonging to the Walnut Hill company were located, according to an arrest report. Additional stolen items were recovered from an address on Highway 297A.
Lopez allegedly sold the travel trailer to another individual for $500. At last report, the travel trailer has not been recovered.
Lopez was released from the Escambia County Jail Thursday on a $30,000 bond.
Vehicle Crashes Into A Deep Ditch At The Alabama-Florida State Line

A driver crashed into a deep drainage ditch at the Alabama-Florida state line Thursday afternoon after avoiding a vehicle that pulled out in front of him.
It happened just after 4 p.m. on Highway 99 and State Line Road near Bratt. The driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee was northbound on Highway 99 in Florida when the elderly driver of another SUV failed to properly stop and pulled out from a stop sign in Florida on State Line Road. The driver of the Jeep swerved off the roadway to avoid a collision, crossing the state line into Alabama. The Jeep then collided with a utility guy wire and crashed into a deep drainage ditch.
The driver of the Jeep and his passenger were not injured.
Alabama State Troopers investigated the single vehicle crash since the only collision (between the Jeep and the guy wire and ditch) occurred in Alabama.
The Walnut Hill Station of Escambia County (FL) Fire Rescue, Escambia County (FL) EMS, Escambia County (FL) Sheriff’s Office and Atmore Police Department also responded.

Northview Takes Jay 9-2 In Big District Win (With Gallery)

The Northview Chiefs earned a big district win 9-2 over rival Jay Thursday night in Jay.
Tied 2-2 after three, the Chiefs pulled away with a run in the fourth and had a five-run seventh inning.
Jamarus Jefferson went for five innings for the Chiefs, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out eight. Kaden Odom closed on the hill, allowing one hit, no runs and striking out two in two innings.
Northview’s Rustin Pope went 3-5 to lead Northview at bat. Odom and Tyler Shaw both went 2-3. Luke Bridges, Josh Landis and Crson Burkett each had a hit.
Justin Smarr led the Royals at the plate, going 2-4.
The Chiefs and Royals will face off again Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Wahoos Stadium.

Tate Downs South Walton

The Tate Aggies beat South Walton 8-3 Thursday at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
Rilee Lowery earned the win for Tate, going four innings with three runs on two hits and striking out two. Gabriel Patterson threw three in relief, allowing one hit and striking out five.
Drew Reaves went 2-4 and James Davis was 2-3 to lead the Aggies at bat. Clifton Quiggins added one hit for Tate.
The Aggie are back in action Friday at 7:00 at Wahoos Stadium against Panama City Arnold.

Canvassing Board Tests Voting Equipment Prior To Century Special Election

The Escambia County Canvassing Board met Thursday afternoon in Pensacola to make sure everything is ready prior to Tuesday’s special election in Century.
The canvassing board is County Judge Barry E. Dickson, Jr. serving as chairman, Supervisor of Elections David H. Stafford, and Escambia County Commissioner Robert Bender.
The board and Escambia County Supervisor of Elections staff conducted logic and accuracy testing on the equipment that will be used at the Century Town Hall.
The canvassing board reviewed the opening tapes on the tabulation equipment (pictured above), reviewed the operations of ExpressVote equipment used to assist voters with disabilities (pictured first below), reviewed test results (second below) and elections staff tested the tabulation equipment (bottom photo).
In Tuesday’s special election for two council seats, Shelisa McCall faces Evelyn Webber for Seat 3, and Edward Hammond faces Alicia Johnson for Seat 4. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Century Town Hall.
