Free Rabies Vaccine Clinic To Be Held In Escambia County

The Escambia County Department of Animal Welfare and the Florida Department of Health in Escambia County will hold a free drive-through rabies vaccine clinic for dogs and cats Saturday, November 1.

The clinic will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Escambia County Central Office Complex, at 3363 West Park Place.

This free event is open to Escambia County residents only, with valid photo identification required upon arrival. Free microchips for dogs and cats will also be available during the clinic, courtesy of Pensacola Humane Society. All dogs and cats must be secured in the vehicle to receive a rabies vaccine and a microchip. Vaccines and microchips are available while supplies last.

Escambia County residents are required to vaccinate any dogs and cats four months or older against rabies by a licensed veterinarian. Rabies vaccines are required annually, and proof of vaccination is required to obtain a county animal license.

Cottage Hill Water Works: Boil Notice Hazzard Lane And 29 North Of Hazzard

UPDATE — THIS BOIL WATER NOTICE HAS BEEN LIFTED.

Cottage Hill Water Works has issued a boil water notice for Hazzard Lane and Highway 29 north of Hazzard Lane.

Scheduled system upgrades took place today in the area, resulting in a disruption of water service.

The utility is advising, as a precaution, that all water in the area that is used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative bottled water may be used.

This precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until the problem has been corrected and a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink.

This story will be updated when the boil water notice is rescinded.

Woman Crashes SUV Into Utility Pole On Pine Forest Road Near Walnut Hill

October 22, 2025

A woman was not seriously injured when she crashed her SUV into a utility pole Tuesday afternoon near Walnut Hill.

The crash happened about 3:50 p.m. on Pine Forest Road about a half-mile north of Arthur Brown Road. The woman was northbound on Pine Forest when she ran her GMC Terrain off the roadway, for an unknown reason, and struck a utility pole.

The woman was evaluated on scene by Escambia County EMS and refused transport.

The Florida Highway Patrol investigated the crash. The Walnut Hill Station of Escambia County Fire Rescue also responded.

The pole was almost snapped the crash.

Century Council Takes First Step To Set Clear Direction For The Future

“We need to change what normal is, what we used to do.”

That’s how a Century council member John Bass explained his vision for a plan for a new Century.

Tuesday, the Century Town Council held a workshop to discuss goals and a clear direction for the town’s future.

Bass, who spearheaded the meeting, said he wants to put objective for the town on paper.

The council discussed everything from park bathrooms, to walking paths, to first aid training for employees to just generally cleaning up the town. Ultimately, they finished the meeting by deciding to continue the goal planning process with input from the community and business leaders and the Century Chamber of Commerce.

After meeting with the chamber, the council plans to hold a town hall meeting for citizen input on December 2 at 5:15 p.m.

Night Of Creepy Crawlies Is Friday At Cantonment’s Roy Hyatt Environmental Center

The Roy Hyatt Environmental Center in Cantonment will host its annual Fall Open House,  “Night of Creepy Crawlies” on Friday.

The event is free and open to the public on Friday, October 24 from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. at 1300 Tobias Road in Cantonment.

The event will include:

  • Birds of prey with the Wildlife Sanctuary of Northwest Florida
  • Creepy crawly creatures with Sunset Wildlife Connection
  • RHEC’s remarkable resident reptiles
  • Naturalist led “Spider Hunt” through the woods
  • Blasting off into space in the inflatable planetarium (seating is limited – sign-up for a showtime upon arrival to the event required – $2 donation suggested)
  • Amazing aquatic creatures in the RHEC Beach House
  • Fun activities with Frances M Weston Audubon Society
  • Birding equipment with Birds Unlimited
  • The RHEC merch table
  • Food trucks (there is a fee for food)

The center, which is operated by the Escambia County School District, is requesting donations:

Perdido Landfill To Close Early On Saturday

The Perdido Landfill will close at noon on Saturday, October 25 for new scale software installation.

Normal operating hours will resume Monday, October 27.

The Perdido Landfill is located at 13009 Beulah Road.

The Northview High School “Mini Cheerleaders” recently had a chance to show of their newly learned skills.

The Northview Mini Chief Cheer Clinic was held back in September for participants ages 5-12. Campers learned individual cheer skills, partner stunts, and a spirit dance.

They had a chance to perform during the third quarter of last Friday night’s football game with the Northview cheerleaders.

Woman Killed In Highway 4 Crash In North Santa Rosa County

October 21, 2025

A Santa Rosa County woman lost her life in a crash Monday afternoon in north Santa Rosa County.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the 54-year-old Milton woman lost control of her vehicle, ran off the roadway for an unknown reason, overturned, and struck a utility pole. She was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The crash occurred about 1 p.m. on Highway 4 west of Three Notch Trail, or about six miles east of Berrydale.
