Sheriff’s Office Unveils New High Tech Real-Time Crime Center (With Photo Gallery)

Escambia County’s high tech Real-Time Crime Center is now up and running at the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
It’s officially called the Star Network, an over 5,700 square foot room that was previously served as a gym. Funded with over $1 million in Local Option Sales Tax funds, the room features a large video wall and working space for crime analysts.
With access to hundreds of cameras and license plate readers, the crime center provides real-time information to help fight crime in the county. With ShotSpotter technology covering a few square miles of the county and the City of Pensacola, the crime center knows about shots fired even before the first 911 call is made. And they can see where every deputy in the county is in real-time and rely on crime-fighting information to them.
The Pensacola Police Department will also utilize the center and provide staffing.

Salzman To Host 30,000 Pound Food, Car Seat Giveaway Saturday

Rep. Michelle Salzman and partners will host a giveaway with 30,000 pounds of fresh food and hundreds of car seats for District 1 residents on Saturday, March 16.
The event will take place starting at 7:30 a.m. while supplies remain at Marcus Pointe Baptist Church at 6205 North W Street in Pensacola.
This event will be a drive-thru for food with a designated space for walk-up, and a separate space for people to pick up their car seats. Vehicles should not line up earlier than 7:00 a.m.
Car seats were limited and have all been claimed by early registrants. Recipients have been emailed and must pick up their car seat between 8 am and 11 a.m. on the day of the event, with no exceptions.
“These quarterly community outreach events I have hosted for several years could not be possible without partners like Kevin Stephens, Jessica Lee (Kia Autosports), and of course our Farm Share team. Myself, the sheriff, our county commissioners, and others have truly been honored to serve our community in this way,” Salzman said.

Northview Chiefs Defeat The Choctaw Indians 4-1

The Northview Chiefs defeated the Indian of Choctawhatchee 4-1 Thursday night.
Jamison Gilman led the Chiefs off in the circle, giving up one hit and no runs in two innings while striking out six and walking one. Mikayla McAnally went for three innings in relief, surrendering no hits and no runs whiles striking out five and walking none. Avery Stuckey pitched for two, giving up two hits, one run, striking out one and walking one.

Gilman, Chloe Ragsdale, and Makayla Golson each collected two hits for Northview Varsity Chiefs. Ragsdale, Makayla Golson, Kylee Langham, and Riley Brooks each drove in one run for the Lady Chiefs. Northview had five stolen bases for the night, including two from Golson.
The Lady Chiefs will travel to rival Jay on Friday. The varsity will play first at 4 p.m. immediately followed by the junior varsity, weather permitting. (The game times were reversed from the original schedule due to the threat of rain.)

Northview Flag Football Beats PHS, Falls To Pace
March 15, 2024
The Northview Chiefs flag football team defeated the Pensacola High Tigers and fell to Pace Thursday evening at Tommy Weaver Memorial Stadium in Bratt.
Northview beat PHS 36-20 before falling to Pace 68-0.

Northview flag football is at 2-2 on the season with wins over PHS and Escambia High School.

Flomaton Tops Northview 7-2 (With Gallery)

The Flomaton Hurricane downed the Northview Chiefs 7-2 Thursday night in Bratt.
River Ramer went a complete seven innings for the Hurricanes, surrendering four hits and two runs, striking out seven and walking one.

Jase Portwood took the loss for the Chiefs, going fiving innings, giving up six runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking zero. Jack Bridges closed in relief, going two innings, giving up one hit and one run while striking out two and walking one.
Jackson Newton and Ramer both had two hits for Flomaton. Ross Bell, Braden Nall, JR Alaniz, Dexter Smoker, Ramer, and Gavyn Tieppo each drove in one run for the Canes.
David King ws 1-3 with an RBI for Northview. Wyatt Scruggs went 2-2 at bat, and Colby Pugh was 1-3.
The Chiefs will host W.S. Neal on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Flomaton will be at Excel Friday at 6 p.m.

Tate Baseball Beats Gulf Breeze; Tate Softball Falls To Niceville

The Tate Aggies beat the Gulf Breeze Dolphins 4-2 Thursday night in Gulf Breeze.
Zane Warrington earned the win for the Aggies, giving up three hits and two runs in seven innings, striking out nine and walking none.
Kaleb Posta recorded two RBIs for Tate, going 1-3 for the night. Madox Land went 2-4 for the Aggies. Posta, Trey Rebber, Ketch King, Conner Hasell and Clif Quinggins each had a hit.
Up next for Tate is the Aggie Classic.
SOFTBALL
Niceville 2, Tate 1
Niceville topped the Tate Lady Aggies 2-1 Thursday night in Niceville.
Kara Wine had a solo homer to left field to put the Aggies on the board in the first inning. Wine went 2-3 on the night. Amburleigh Larid and Jordan Smith each had one hit.
Smith took the loss for Tate. She went for six innings, giving up two runs on 10 hits, striking out three and walking one.

Pensacola and Perdido Bay Watersheds May Get Estuary of National Significance Status

The U.S. Senate unanimously passed the Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary of National Significance Act to direct the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to formally enroll the Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary Program (PPBEP) into the National Estuary Program as an “Estuary of National Significance.” The bill now heads to the U.S. House of Representatives.
U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rick Scott (R-FL) introduced the legislation to federally designate the PPBEP to leverage federal dollars, in coordination with funding by state and local governments, to address water quality and resource challenges in the estuary. The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Estuary Program is non-regulatory.
“The EPA’s National Estuary Program has a successful track record of cooperative federalism across the nation, including with the four existing programs we have in Florida,” Rubio said. “Enrolling the PPBEP in the National Estuary Program will provide critical support for restoration, conservation, and monitoring efforts in Pensacola and Perdido Bays and enhance economic activity in the Florida Panhandle. I urge my colleagues in the House to quickly pass this bill.”

Tate Tennis Boys And Girls Defeat Navarre

The Tate Aggies boys and girls tennis teams defeated Navarre Thursday afternoon. The boys won 7-0, and the girls were victorious 4-3.
Next up, the Aggies will take on Washington Friday at the Roger Scott Tennis Center in Pensacola.

Driver Killed While Leaving Mobile Highway Walmart Parking Lot
March 14, 2024
One person was killed in a crash in front of the Walmart of Mobile Highway Thursday morning.
A Honda sedan driven by an 83-year old Pensacola man pulled out of the Walmart parking lot near Cherokee Trail amd into the path of a Volkswagen driven by a 28-year old Pensacola man, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The 83-year old was pronounced deceased following the crash.
FHP is continuing their investigation.

Tate High School Hosts District Special Olympics (With Photo Galleries)

Escambia County School District’s Special Olympics Spring Games were held Wednesday at Tate High School with about 400 student athletes and nearly 700 Tate student volunteers assisting as “buddies” and event workers.
The event began with a Special Olympics Torch around the track at Carl Madison Field at Pete Gindl Stadium. The National Anthem was performed by Tate senior Ella Kizer.
