Groundbreaking Set For ECSO’s New Law Enforcement Memorial Plaza
January 14, 2025
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Escambia County Sheriff Foundation, will hold a groundbreaking Thursday for a Law Enforcement Memorial Plaza. This project will honor deputies who made the ultimate sacrifice and serve as a place of remembrance, healing, and connection for the community.
The memorial plaza will become a focal point in front of the main Sheriff’s Office on Leonard Street, reinforcing its symbolic importance. The ECSO said the newly designed space will offer a place where memories are shared, where grief is met with support, and where citizens can all come together–united in appreciation for those who sacrificed their lives for our safety.
The partnership with the Sheriff Foundation will provide the funding and no tax dollars will be used in the construction. The Escambia County Sheriff Foundation is soliciting donations of any size, with recognition opportunities available at various levels. “The Foundation Board is deeply honored to support the creation of this Memorial Plaza,” said Foundation President Whitney C. Lucas. “This project embodies our commitment to honoring the brave heroes of the Sheriff’s Office. We believe this plaza will be a welcoming space of remembrance that invites citizens to connect with their Sheriff’s Office while focusing on the shared values that keep our community strong.”
The groundbreaking will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in front of the ECSO at 1700 West Leonard Street. Refreshments will follow inside the ECSO building.

Final Development Plans For Circle K At Highway 95A, Quintette Road Up For Vote
January 13, 2025
The Escambia County Development Review Committee will this week consider final plans for a new Circle K in Quintette.
The 3,973 square foot Circle K would be located on 2.31 acres at 2000 North Highway 95A,.
Plans have been filed for a Circle K in that location before and have undergone several versions before the latest set of drawings submitted January 8 to update a January 2024 application. Most notably, the plans show turn lanes on Highway 95A into the store.
The plans show six multi-product fuel pumps with three diesel pumps on the opposite side of the store.
Currently, the east and west legs of Quintette Road are offset approximately 115 feet from one another, creating a hazard for the smooth flow of intersection traffic. Escambia County has applied for grant, with $250,000 pledged by Circle K, to align the intersection.
The Escambia County Development Review Committee will consider the final application during a meeting at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Escambia County Central Complex Building at 3363 West Park Place.

Molino Man Accused Of Aggravated Assault Of Mother, Girlfriend With Ceiling Fan Blade
January 13, 2025
A Molino man is accused of assaulting his mother and girlfriend with a ceiling fan blade.
Timothy Bryan Jones, 46, was charged with aggravated assault on a person over 65-years-old, aggravated battery on a person over 65, aggravated assault, and battery — all domestic violence related.
Jones allegedly threatened his family with a knife and struck a parent with the blade from ceiling fan.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to find Jones in front yard of a home on Pilgrim Trail Way with music playing loud enough to be heard from inside a patrol vehicle.
“Jones appeared to be heavily intoxicated and refused lawful commands to keep his hands visible and get on the ground,” an arrest report states. Two deputies took Jones to the ground, handcuffed him, and placed him in a patrol vehicle.
Deputies located his 66-year-old mother on the floor inside the home with visible bloody injuries to her head, neck and face, the report states. She told deputies that he became drunk and enraged, pushing her onto the floor before threatening to kill her and his girlfriend with a knife.
He then allegedly pulled a blade off a ceiling fan and struck his mother in the face before pushing his wheelchair-bound girlfriend to the floor.
His mother was airlifted to a Pensacola hospital, while his girlfriend refused medical transport.
Jones remained in the Escambia County Jail Monday morning without bond.
