Local FFA Member Named Finalist For ‘Stars Of Florida’ Program
March 16, 2025
The Florida FFA Association recently selected 25 student members — including one from Escambia County — as finalists in the highly coveted “Stars of Florida” award recognition program.
Isabelle Jenkins, who attends the Pensacola High School IB program and is a member of the Florida Virtual FFA chapter, was the only local student to be named a finalist.
The program symbolizes the highest competitive recognition for FFA members and their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) program(s) in seven different categories. Each candidate will be interviewed by a team of FFA, industry and agriculture education representatives to determine the winner in each area. Each finalist, their family and agriculture instructor(s) will be recognized at the Fourth General Session of the 97th Florida FFA Convention to be held at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando.

Project Provides Free Dictionaries For All Jim Allen Third Graders

Members of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Cantonment recently presented new dictionaries to students at Jim Allen Elementary School. Each third grader received their own copy of “A Student’s Dictionary.” The goal of The Dictionary Project is to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners by providing them with their own personal dictionary. Donations Provide New Keyboards For Bratt Elementary Students

The music program at Bratt Elementary recently received new keyboards.
The keyboard were purchased with donations from the Bratt PTA and the Blues Angel Music Foundation. The students helped assemble the benches and stands for the new Keyboards.

Ransom Middle School Concert, Symphonic Bands Showcase Upcoming MPA Performance (With Gallery)

The Ransom Middle School Concert and Symphonic Bands showcased their talents in a pre-MPA performance Thursday evening.
The event was preparation for their upcoming music performance assessment (MPA), during which they will be evaluated on their musical proficiency and ensemble performance.
Under direct of Lee Rigdon and Steven Kershaw, the students performed a preview of the pieces they will present at the official MPA performance next week.

SRO Mel Pfeiffer Honored As Tate High Support Personnel Of The Month
March 5, 2025
Escambia County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer Mel Pfeiffer named Tate High School’s Educational Support Personnel of the Month.
According to Principal Laura Touchstone, Pfeiffer is “a leader who effectively balances law enforcement duties with a deep commitment to building positive relationships within the school community. SRO Pfeiffer serves as a trusted mentor and educator, working closely with students, staff, and parents while maintaining a visible presence to ensure the safety and security of the school environment.
“In addition to his law enforcement expertise, SRO Pfeiffer understands the unique dynamics of the school setting, consistently demonstrating excellent communication skills, patience, and approachability. These qualities have allowed SRO Pfeiffer to navigate complex youth-related issues and de-escalate situations effectively, ensuring that the school’s environment remains supportive and safe for all,” Touchstone added.

Northview Band Holds MPA Preview Concert (With Gallery)

The Northview High School’s Tribal Beat band held an MPA Preview Concert Monday evening in the school theater.

Ernest Ward FFA Presents ‘Golden Cow Dung Award’ To Summer Waters
February 28, 2025
Ernest Ward Middle School teachers assistant Summer Waters received the annual “Golden Cow Dung Award” from members of the Ernest Ward FFA recently. The award features a large piece of cow dung, painted a golden color and mounted on a board painted in school colors.
Waters received the award during as a “thank you” for supporting FFA.
(Cow dung, in case you didn’t know for sure, is what you are probably thinking it is. It’s that natural byproduct that cows drop in the field. The award is 100% real dung spray painted a golden color. The golden dung piece is actually the original award piece created and painted in 2009 with an occasional paint touch up.)
Nancy Gindl-Perry was the first “Golden Cow Dung Award” recipient in 2009.
