Farm City Week Thanksgiving Meals Distributed To 800 Families

About 800 Thanksgiving meals were distributed to Escambia and Santa Rosa County residents Tuesday as part of Farm City Week.
The meals were distributed to 400 pre-registered applicants at the Waterfront Rescue Missing in Pensacola and 400 at the Milton Community Center.
FFA members, Boy Scouts and other volunteers from Escambia and Santa Rosa counties worked Monday worked to harvest fresh items for the meals Monday. They harvested produce including turnips and cabbage, bagged sweet potatoes, grits and cornmeal.

The produce was paired with all of the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal from Feeding the Gulf Coast. The University of Florida/IFAS Extension Service was also in attendance to demonstrate how to prepare and cook the produce being distributed, as well as how to can fresh produce.
National Farm to City Week is a national effort to bring about a better understanding between rural and urban people by increasing knowledge and appreciation for agriculture.

Tate Grad Beal Completes Marine Boot Camp

U.S. Marine Corps Private 1st Class Jackson Evan Beal graduated from boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, recently.
The recruit completed an intensive, 12 week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Marine core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. It concluded with a 58 hour exercise in endurance called the Crucible.
Beal is the son of Rich and Jennifer Beal of Pensacola.
He is a 2019 graduate of J. M. Tate High School where he was involved in ROTC for four years..
Bristol Aaron Of Cantonment Named Miss Snowball Derby

Bristol Aaron of Cantonment was crowned 2019 Miss Snowball Derby Thursday night, selected from a field of 16 contestants.
Jessica Ballard was declared runner-up; second runner-up was Madison Bragg, third runner-up Brooke Gardner and fourth runner-up Alana Rose. Ballard was also was selected by the contestants as Miss Congeniality.
Aaron, a Tate High School graduate, received $1,000 in cash plus jewelry and the crown for the year.

Byrneville Fourth And Fifth Graders Enjoy Thanksgiving Feast

Escambia School District Names Top 5 Finalists For Teacher Of The Year

The Escambia County School District has narrowed their list of finalist for Teacher of the Year to five.
The top 5, in alphabetical order, are:
- Kadee Barnett – first grade teacher, Beulah Elementary
- Jacqueline Chabot – third grade teacher, Montclair Elementary
- Maureen Harden – sixth grade math teacher, Bailey Middle School
- Cheyenna Novotny – chemistry and other science topics teacher, West Florida High School
- Jodi Woods – six grade mathematics teacher and math department chair, Ransom Middle School
The Escambia County School District’s Teacher of the Year will be named at the Golden Apple Awards in January.

A Sweet Treat: Ernest Ward Culinary Students Share Program With School Board

Students from the Ernest Ward Middle School Culinary Academy presented to the Escambia County School Board, and left them with a sweet treat, Thursday afternoon.
They described the program to the board and shared a video from last year’s “Cupcake Wars” betweens teams of culinary students. Board members received double chocolate cupcake brownies prepared by eighth grade culinary students.
There are 153 students enrolled in the Ernest Ward Culinary Academy, which is a feeder program for the culinary academy at Northview High School. The academy’s director is Somer Bridges.

The Blue Angels closed out their season Saturday under perfect skies at NAS Pensacola.
Over 45,000 spectators watched the high-flying show at Sherman field during the Homecoming Air Show.
