Man Wanted For Escambia County Murder
October 24, 2019
An Escambia County man was shot and killed Wednesday night, and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has named a suspect.
Mario Copeland (pictured left) is wanted for the homicide. He is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone with details on his whereabouts should call 911.
The ECSO says Denario Jarrod James, 28, was found shot in the chest on Aquamarine Avenue.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is still looking for one of three persons named Thursday morning as wanted for questioning only. They have located Juanya Galloway and Xaixai Desray Gill, and they still want to talk to Javon Galloway.
Investigators believe there were multiple witnesses to the shooting that have not provided any details.

Take Two: Century To Redo Meeting After Sunshine Law Violation
October 20, 2019
Century will redo a Community Redevelopment Agency meeting Monday night as they try to right a wrong with a self-admitted Sunshine Law violation.
Shortly after an improperly advertised Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) meeting October 7, City Manager Buz Eddy said, “We did not advertise that meeting properly.” He said a “timeout should have been called and the meeting should not be held. And that’s what we should have done.”
The town decided that they would advertise another CRA meeting and redo all discussion.
The State Attorney’s Office decided not to pursue the violation – for now – because the town realized the error and took steps to correct their missteps.
“If they continue with violations, we will revisit if we should move forward,” Assistant State Attorney Greg Marcille added.
The town council members sit as the CRA board, with all members taking part in the improper meeting except an absent James Smith.
Monday’s Century CRA meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at town hall. The meeting will be followed by a bill list review at 6:45 and a regular council meeting at 7 p.m. The meetings are all open to the public.
