Florida COVID-19 Case Count Climbs; Still One Confirmed Case In Escambia

As of Sunday morning, there were 830  total COVID-19 cases in Florida. Of those, 768 were confirmed in Florida residents and 62 among non-Florida residents in the state.  There death toll increased by one to 13.

The confirmed case count in Escambia County remained at one, and at three in Santa Rosa County. Okaloosa County now has 12 total cases.

The Escambia County case is a 53-year old male that traveled to France. The Santa Rosa County cases area 71-year old man traveled to Egypt, Israel and Jordan that later died at Baptist Hospital In Pensacola; a 48-year old male with a travel history to the United Kingdom, and a 17-year old male that did not have contact with a previously known case with no travel history.

Second COVID-19 Case Confirmed In Santa Rosa; No New Cases Announced In Escambia

A second positive COVID-19 case in Santa Rosa County has been identified by the Florida Department of Health. The person is a 48-year old male with a travel history to the United Kingdom, according to FDOH.

Santa Rosa County’s first case was announced March 5. The 71-year old man traveled to Egypt, Israel and Jordan. He died at Baptist Hospital In Pensacola.

The number of positive cases announced by the health department  in Escambia County remains at one, a 53-year old male that traveled to France.

There are currently 390 cases in the state — 360 positive cases in Florida residents and 30 positive cases in non-Florida residents. There have been eight total deaths in Florida as of Thursday morning.

Last Call: Bars And Nightclubs In Florida Must Close; Restrictions On Restaurants

Florida bars and nightclubs must close today starting at 5 p.m., and new restrictions have been place on restaurants.

Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the order Tuesday to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

“We view that as something that could be problematic for spreading the virus. Stealth carriers, people who don’t have symptoms, but they are nevertheless passing along,” DeSantis said during a press conference in Tallahassee.

Restaurants must stay below 50 percent of their total capacity in dinings areas, parties must be seated at tables must be at least six feets apart, and all employees must be screened for COVID-19. DeSantis also encouraged restaurant takeout and delivery services.

Cantonment Group Collects Food To Distribute Tuesday To Students Due School Closings (With Photo Gallery)

March 17, 2020

The Cantonment Improvement Committee will be distributing free food for school-aged children as long as it lasts Tuesday beginning at 1 p.m. at Carver Park on Webb Street.

Dozens of people and businesses responded to a call for help Monday and donated the food and helping package bags that will be distributed drive-thru style with no need to get out of a vehicle. Drivers will receive bag for each child.

Families that can’t make Tuesday’s giveaway can call (850) 346-2797 to make arrangements to meet if there anything remaining after Tuesday’s event.

Polls Are Open Today For The Presidential Preference Primary Election

Polls are open Tuesday 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. for the presidential preference primary.

Here’s what you need to know from the Escambia County Supervisor of Elections Office, including actions the elections office is taking due to coronavirus:

  • The health and safety of our community – including voters, poll workers and staff is our top concern.
  • Voters and election workers are reminded to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, like COVID 19 by taking everyday precautions.
  • We have directed our poll workers and staff to wipe down equipment frequently, to wash their hands thoroughly and often, as stay home if they’re sick.
  • Our office is providing each polling location with a limited supply of hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes and tissues; however, voters are encouraged to bring their own sanitary items with them to the polls as desired.
  • “Over-the-counter” Vote-by-Mail ballots can be picked up by voters (or their designees) at our office Saturday until 5 p.m., Monday, and Election Day (emergency only).
  • Confirm the location of your polling place. It is listed on your sample ballot, voter information card, online at EscambiaVotes.com, or call 595-3900.
  • Several polling locations have changed since the last election.
  • Busiest times at the polls tend to be 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m., and 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
  • If you are unsure of your registration status, check EscambiaVotes.com, e-mail us at soe@escambiavotes.com, or call 595-3900.
  • Photo and signature ID is required for all voters – if you do not present an approved form of ID, you may vote a provisional ballot.
  • Florida holds closed primary elections. Only registered Republicans and Democrats are eligible to vote in this election.
  • Registration books closed on February 18 – new registrations and party changes for this election may not be made at the polls.
  • You may not return your completed vote-by-mail ballot to your precinct on Election Day – it must be returned to the Elections Office by 7 p.m.
  • If you requested a vote-by-mail ballot but chose not to return it and wish to vote at your polling place instead, please bring your unvoted ballot package with you so it can be cancelled.
