Tropical Storm Mindy Makes Landfall In Florida Panhandle
September 8, 2021
UPDATE: Tropical Storm Mindy made landfall about 8:15 p.m. at St. Vincent Island, Florida with maximum sustained winds at 45 mph with higher gusts.
Tropical Storm Mindy formed Wednesday afternoon over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico this afternoon. Mindy is forecast to move inland over the Florida Big Bend late tonight.
Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect from Mexico Beach to Steinhatchee River and do not include Escambia or Santa Rosa counties. Mindy is expected to make landfall Wednesday night.
Locally, there is an increased risk of rip currents.
There are no wind threats locally, but there is a chance of rain for Wednesday night.

Tropical System Moving Across Gulf; Rain Chance Increases This Afternoon

A tropical system is continuing to move across the Gulf of Mexico. There will also be in increased risk of rip currents at the coast. Most impacts from the system will be to our east, regardless of development.

Here’s The Latest On That Gulf of Mexico Disturbance
September 7, 2021
A tropical system will bring an increased chance of rain to the Escambia County area beginning Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, the disturbance is forecast to lift northeast over the central and then northeastern Gulf of Mexico during the next couple of days. Conditions will become a bit more conducive for limited tropical or subtropical development over the next couple of days.
There is 50% chance of development during the next few days. Regardless of development, there will be an increased chance of rain and an increased rip current risk over our local area Wednesday through Thursday night.
This is currently not forecast to be a wind event for the North Escambia area.

Portion Of Hilltop Road In Century To Close Tuesday
September 6, 2021
A portion of Hilltop Road in Century will be closed starting Tuesday morning, according to the Town of Century.
Hilltop Road will be closed from 351 Hilltop (about one-third of mile east of Highway 4A) to Elm Street beginning about 9 a.m. The road is being closed for utility repairs.
At this time, the town said it is not known how long the road will be closed.

Labor Day Closures, Trash Schedule Info

Here are Labor Day closures for Escambia County and the Town of Century, plus sanitation information from ECUA.
ESCAMBIA COUNTY
Below is a listing of Escambia County offices and departments closed Monday, Sept. 6 in observance of Labor Day.
- Escambia County Board of County Commissioners – all departments including:
- West Florida Public Libraries (all locations)
- Escambia County Property Appraiser
- Escambia County Tax Collector
- Escambia County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller*
- Waste Services Administration
- Supervisor of Elections Office
- ECAT administrative offices
- Escambia County Animal Welfare & Adoption Center
*The Clerk’s court offices at the MC Blanchard Judicial Building, Theodore Bruno Juvenile Building, Public Records Center and the Century Courthouse will also be closed Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021 and Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021 in observance of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. The Clerk’s Official Records, Finance, Treasury and Clerk to the Board offices located at 221 Palafox Place will be open on these dates.
Escambia County exceptions:
ECAT administrative offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 6. The only bus service operating will be the Pensacola Beach Trolleys. Buses and UWF trolleys will not run service. Regular service will resume Tuesday, Sept. 7.
The Perdido Landfill will be open Monday, Sept. 6
TOWN OF CENTURY
Town of Century offices will be closed on Monday for Labor Day. The normal first Monday of the month bill list review and town council meeting are scheduled for Tuesday beginning at 6:45 p.m.
ECUA
ECUA business offices will be closed on Monday in observance of the Labor Day Holiday and will reopen on Tuesday. Residential and commercial sanitation collections for ECUA customers will be unaffected by the holiday and will be carried out as usual.
