Just wait till the truck stop is finished you will see a heck of a lot more problems,,,,,,,how in the heck could they get permission to put that thing in when the west side of the highway has but two exiting roads to 29, Molino rd. and crabtree. it is disgusting, that the truck stop will be at the entrance to major housing areas.

Lets not assume things until you know what really happened. No cell phones were involved. Maybe we should see the positive side of things. EVERYONE WALKED AWAY SAFE!!!! The person involved in this accident was not an unsafe driver. Perfect driving record in fact. Things happen people. Im sure that if someone in your family were involved you wouldnt want to hear people who dont even know the situation write bad things about your loved ones. I just thank God that my son and my mother and the mother and 3 children in the other car are okay!!!

really bad intersection, always a bad accident there.

  4. stopnlook on March 28th, 2011 4:32 pm

Sit at the Tom Thumb one afternoon and count the vehicles that come off Hwy 97 unto Hwy 29 and then count how many of these vehicles actually STOP! Hwy 29 vehicles have the right away. Turning from Hwy 29 Northnound into Tom Thumb is not an illegal turn, you are making a left hand turn. Even you made a U-Turn at this intersection, North or Southbound, you would not be at fault, because there are no “No U-Turn” signs in either direction. Traffic lights do not fix stupidity, anyway.

Red lights do not fix stupid! If you want red lights so bad, move into town and out of Molino. The intersection is NOT dangerous, it is some of the drivers using it.

To the driver of the white car: I just want to say thank you for the respect and kindness you showed to the other driver. I’m so thankful you all were not seriously injured.

    TRAFFIC LIGHT PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Aby on March 28th, 2011 9:13 am

The driver involved is not a “bad” driver. I know this for a fact. It was an unfortunate accident at a very dangerous location and I just thank God that everyone involved is okay. P.S- no one was on a cell phone either… But people do need to think about how dangerous it is to be on a phone while driving.

  11. bjay on March 27th, 2011 9:19 pm

Put up a redlight and cause more accidents. Once the truck stop is in and then you have all those cars backed up the dump trucks and rigs are going to be trying to pass one another and causing a cluster. Just to prove my point there is a red light at the intersection by my house and I see about 5 wrecks a week there. Red lights dont prevent accidents. Responsible drivers do!

  12. babygirl on March 27th, 2011 9:04 pm

I have another idea, besides look and see if there is a car coming before you pull out in front of it also get off of your cell phone talking or texting and maybe you will not hit someone………………… I see this often people talking not paying attention….

  13. Chanty on March 27th, 2011 6:12 pm

Just wanted to let people know that we (the car passengers) are OK. We all escaped with minor injuries (sprained ankle, seatbelt and airbag bruises). We’re thankful that we came out of it alive and that the passengers in the other vehicle appear to be fine as well.

  14. concerned on March 27th, 2011 1:36 pm

How many accidents have to happen here before a light is put up!!! An average of three wrecks a month happen here. I don’t care if only two people a month come across that road that’s two people who won’t get in wreck. A light needs to be put up, period!!!

  15. curious on March 27th, 2011 12:04 pm

per Bjay: Bad drivers are the problems not lack of redlights”

I so totally agree. The main problem with probably the majority of these accidents are folks just simply not paying attention.
Hellooooo, there are red lights all over the United States and folks still have accidents. Red lights are not going to solve all our problems. People STILL have to pay attention first.

  16. HOW MANY LIVES !! on March 27th, 2011 10:54 am

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET THESE PEOPLE TO PUT UP THE TRAFFIC LIGHT WITH DIRECTIONAL TURNS ! OMG ! HOW MANY MORE PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE OR GET INJURED FOR THIS TO HAPPEN !!

  17. Family on March 27th, 2011 10:06 am

We hope no-one was seriously injured and everyone is going to be alright. From the looks of it its going to take them a long time just to get over the whiplash trauma. We will keep you in our prayers.

There has been so many times I’ve traveled this stretch of hwy and when you get to this intersection you’ll see people slow down then automatically pull out on the hwy or crossover, never coming to a complete stop. I feel when it comes to this intersection people need to pay close attention when proceeding to pull onto the roadway. It’s hard to put a traffic light on this part of the hwy or any part of Hwy 29 since speed limits is 55, back to 65/70 and some still go around you then….Hwy 29 has become more like the Interstate…I’ve lived on Hwy 29 all my life, seems like when the speed limit went to 65, “Oh I can drive 70 or 75″. We all need to slow down..

  19. commonsence on March 27th, 2011 6:22 am

This Intersection has plagued the lives of Driver’s for years. What does it take to correct the problem? The mayor, Govonor, Senator’s, or some Politians Family has to be involved in an Accident that results in Death. Then as always the Law changes, A Red Light with Directional Turns, 300 Ft. Warnings when approaching Intersection WILL BE INSTALLED. Of all States why do slow traffic, those who drive slow, not turning, drive in the Passing Lane, fail to keep Right. Forcing people to pass on the Right, Alabama & Florida drivers.

  20. t2 on March 27th, 2011 3:13 am

I had to make a trip to Pcola the other day and passed this intersection heading south, as I was passing this intersection, a white station wagon was all the way in the right hand land of the southbound lane. All traffic had to get into the left lane. Things such as this is what is causing the wrecks. And People in the northbound lane had to come to a hault when he decided to cross over heading to Molino. The dude was dangerous. And a light would help on some issues, but as stated before, people would have to learn to obey the law first.

  21. Colt on March 26th, 2011 11:53 pm

Get it right people, stop talking on the cell phone and look where you are going. Keep your mind on the road, look for cars before turning into a opposite traveled lane when crossing the road. Lights are not going to help if people don’t follow common sense rules of the road.

  22. molino jim on March 26th, 2011 10:02 pm

TRY THIS ON FOR SIZE; WHITE CAR SOUTH BOUND ON 29 A LITTLE OVER THE SPEED LIMIT. WHITE SUV NORTH BOUND ON 29 RUNNING ABOUT THE SPEED LIMIT TURNING ONTO 97 TRYING TO CROSS TWO TRAFFIC LANES AND GETS HIT. THIS HAS HAPPEN A NUMBER OF TIMES AND A TRAFFIC LIGHT MAY VERY WELL MAKE WORSE. A NUMBER OF TIMES A CAR WILL TURN ONTO 97 THEN STOP WHILE TRYING TO TURN INTO THE THUMB OR ON TO THE SIDE ROAD. A SECOND CAR TURNING ONTO 97 IS CONFRONTED WITH A STOPPED CAR AND NO WHERE TO GO BECAUSE THERE ARE DIRECTIONAL SIGNS ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD NOW. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SURPRISED THAT THE PEANUT WAGON HAS NEVER BEEN HIT. ADD TO THIS AN 18 WHEELER LOG TRUCK TURNING ON TO 97 AND YOU HAVE A MESS. ***GATORFAN1 YOU ARE 100% RIGHT.

  23. 06flstci on March 26th, 2011 9:39 pm

I have lived in six different states and have traveled thru probably 20 or more states, many times. The people around here are the most impatient, WORST drivers I have ever seen

  25. tallyho on March 26th, 2011 8:30 pm

From the look of where the cars are setting its another case of someone whom cannot stop at stop signs. If you put a thousand red lights there it would not make any difference until people obey the law and stop and look before going. If you made the speed limits to go no faster then 20 miles per hour the same people will cause the wrecks. Or made it 100 mile per hr it would be same. STOP LOOK BOTH WAYS THEN PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are blaming everything but ourselfs.

  26. Bruce on March 26th, 2011 8:08 pm

One of the issues here is north-bound traffic turning left into the convenience store off of 29 and not turning left onto 97 and then into the store. It is an illegal turn and people need to stop doing it. As traffic counts increase…stop lights will follow.

  27. bjay on March 26th, 2011 7:30 pm

I have a great idea. Why dont people look and see if there is a car coming before they pull out in front of it! Bad drivers are the problems not lack of redlights!

  28. Richard on March 26th, 2011 7:08 pm

Jane i guess it takes a ton of wrecks and ppls lives to get a light

  29. MolinoGurl* on March 26th, 2011 6:54 pm

gator fan1 you are SO right!!! this intersection is TERRIBLE, sometimes its calm out there and then other times its rediculous to try and cross and turn. I agree there needs to be a light put here but not 1 of those lights that turn red and not even a second into it turn green.

  30. Bill L on March 26th, 2011 5:57 pm

the best solution will be to slow the speed limit down to 40mph 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the intersection, but there is no way people will slow down and a traffic light will cause more accidents since n/s bound will forget to stop

  31. gatorfan1 on March 26th, 2011 4:35 pm

Just wait until the truck stop opens! I don’t think we’ve seen anything yet!

    William,

How soon until you can post the names of those involved?

  34. EMD on March 26th, 2011 4:24 pm

If ANY place ever needed a traffic light, it is this one. What is going on with those in charge of which intersection gets a light? Will we have to pay a committee to figure out we need one, or could they just check the number and seriousness of the accidents that happen here? This seems like a no-brainer to me. I just do not understand what the criteria for a traffic light is. Does anyone know?

  35. What on March 26th, 2011 4:17 pm

How do people not see cars aproaching with that big intersection

  36. ProudArmyParent on March 26th, 2011 3:17 pm

Just saw this! It did not look good. Hope they are all ok!

  37. Jane on March 26th, 2011 3:14 pm

AND WHY DON’T WE HAVE A TRAFFIC LIGHT THERE???? How many people have to die or be injured before something is done!!!!!

  38. Dave on March 26th, 2011 2:52 pm

This intersection is poorly designed. they realy need to put a full functioning traffic signal there. Will it keep accidents from happing? No, but I believe it will cut down on the number of crashes there.
