Local Drivers Get Break From Road Construction For The Holidays

Florida drivers will get a break from road construction for Christmas and New Year’s.
There will be no lane closures or other activities that impede traffic on major state roads throughout the Florida panhandle beginning at beginning on Christmas Eve and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, January 2, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

Ice Flyers Christmas: Bulls Charge Back For 4-3 OT Win

The Ice Flyers hosted Ice Flyers Christmas at the Hangar, squaring off against the Birmingham Bulls in what would prove to be a heartbreaking overtime loss.
The Ice Flyers came out strong in the opening period, jumping to an early 2-0 lead. Andrew Poulias opened the scoring, followed by Shane Bull extending the lead. The Ice Flyers controlled play and headed into the first intermission with momentum on their side.
The second period saw a dramatic shift as the Bulls stormed back with two straight goals. Tim Kent got Birmingham on the board, cutting the deficit in half. Just 32 seconds later, Drake Glover tied the game at 2-2, igniting the Bulls bench. Shane Bull responded for the Ice Flyers to restore their lead at 3-2 heading into the second intermission.
The third period belonged to the Bulls. Shawn Kennedy tied the game at 3-3, sending the game to overtime in front of a tense crowd at the Hangar
In overtime, Kevin Sadovski completed the comeback for Birmingham, scoring the game-winner just nine seconds into the extra frame to give the Bulls a thrilling 4-3 victory.
Semi Pulls Power Lines Down At Century Shopping Center
December 23, 2025
A semi truck pulled down power lines in a Century shopping center Tuesday morning.
The truck snagged the low lines in the parking lot and along State Line Road by the Food Giant on North Century Boulevard about 8:35 a.m.
The driver remained in the truck as a precaution until FPL could arrive on scene and ensure that the lines were dead. The driver was not injured.
The Century Station of Escambia County Fire Rescue also responded.

West Highway 4 Has Reopened Near Highway 97
December 23, 2025
Escambia County crews have finished a project a day earlier than anticipated, and a portion of West Highway 4 between Highway 97 and Pine Barren Church Road has reopened.
The roadway was originally closed Monday for crews to replace a pipe under the roadway.

Century Woman, Atmore Man Facing Drug Charges After Traffic Stop
December 23, 2025
The Atmore Police Department charged a Century woman and an Atmore man after a traffic stop led to the alleged discovery of illegal narcotics.
According to Sgt. Darrell McMann, an officer stopped the vehicle on Highway 21 after the driver failed to dim their high beams for oncoming traffic.
The driver was identified as 47-year-old Heather Fails of Century, and the passenger as 27-year-old Cody McNeil of Atmore. During the interaction, the officer noted suspicious behavior and received consent to search the vehicle.
APD said the search revealed methamphetamine and marijuana.
Both Fails and McNeil were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana second degree. Both were booked into the Escambia County (AL) Detention Center in Brewton.
Escambia Man Charged With DUI Manslaughter For Death Of Young Woman

An Escambia County man has been charged with DUI manslaughter after a fatal crash that claimed the life of a young woman.
The Florida Highway Patrol said 33-year-old Alexander King was traveling southbound on Blue Angel Parkway just before 6 p.m. Sunday when his vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with two vehicles that were traveling northbound. A passenger in one of the vehicles was pronounced deceased; an update on the conditions of the drivers of the northbound vehicles was not provided.
Family members have identified the victim as 23-year-old Caitlin Breault. According to a GoFundMe created by family, she was a kindergarten teacher, a loving mother to a 13-month-old son, and just eight days away from her eight-month wedding anniversary.
The GoFundMe notes that money raised will go toward her funeral costs, along with medical bills for her mother and grandmother-in-law, who were also injured in the accident.
King is being held without bond on the DUI manslaughter charge.

In observance of Christmas and New Year’s, the following Escambia County offices will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday Dec. 26.
- Escambia County Board of County Commissioners (all departments)
- Escambia County Administration
- Escambia County Area Transit Administrative Offices
- Escambia County Department of Animal Welfare and Animal Shelter
- Escambia County Extension Office
- Escambia County Waste Services Administration
- West Florida Public Libraries (all locations)
- Escambia County Property Appraiser
- Escambia County Supervisor of Elections
Normal Escambia County operations will resume Friday, Dec. 26.
TAX COLLECTOR
Escambia County Tax Collector offices will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24-Friday, Dec. 26,
PERDIDO LANDFILL
- The Perdido Landfill will close at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24 and remain closed Thursday, Dec. 25.

Town of Century offices will be closed Dec. 24-26 for the Christmas holiday.
