Northview Softball Defeats Central Christian 15-1

The Northview Lady Chiefs defeated the Central Christian Saints 15-1 Monday night on the road.
Emma Gilmore went five innings for Northview, allowing three hits, one run and striking out nine.
Gilmore and Kayla Dixon led the Chiefs at the plate with two hits each. Northview also had on hit each from Chloe Ragsdale, Kailyn Watson, Kaitlin Gafford, Alanna Roberson and Aubrey Stuckey.

Escambia County Holds Hurricane Exercise

It’s that time of year again. Hurricane season is just around the corner, with the first official day on June 1.
Escambia County Emergency Management hosted their annual hurricane exercise Monday. It was a chance for different agencies and partners to gather at the Escambia County Emergency Operations Center to practice for the real thing.

Food Truck Court Proposed For Pine Forest Road In Cantonment

Plans are under review for a food truck court in Cantonment.
Kiem Nguyen is seeking approval from the Escambia County Development Review Committee for the food truck park on a vacant Pine Forest Road vacant lot, just north of the Dollar General and the Highway 297A intersection.
The 0.435 lot is about 76 feet wide and 250 feet deep, and is surrounded by the Dollar General to the south, a residence to the north and self storage units to the west.
The application for the food truck park shows 22 x 10 foot and 18 x 10 foot lots for food trucks, a central driveway, tables, benches, bathroom and an “open mic stage” to be located at the rear. The drawing indicates eight total food trucks and parking.
The Development Review Committee held a pre-application meeting on the proposal last week.

Blue Angels Team Members Practice With Molino Ballpark Softball Teams

Members of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels team recently visited with softball teams at Molino Ballpark.
The flight mechanic and pre-flight team members spoke with softball players about teamwork, answered questions and practiced a bit with the 12U and 16U teams.

How Fast Is Your Internet? Residents Urged To Take Florida Broadband Speed Test

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) is encouraging residents take the Florida Broadband Speed Test to assist in further developing Florida’s Broadband Availability Map. Your participation will help the state of Florida identify gaps in high-speed internet service in order to advance the state’s overall broadband infrastructure expansion goals.
Using your internet connection, the speed test will measure the speed of internet transmission between your device and an outside server. The speed test can be completed using any device that has an internet or cellular connection and takes less than one minute to complete. After taking the speed test, you will receive immediate results from your test.
Results will populate the map once you complete the speed test and will include your download, upload, latency and ping speeds. The data collected from your internet’s speed test will be displayed on the Florida Broadband Availability Map in real time.
Florida Gas Prices Decline A Penny After Jumping Last Week

Florida gas prices are gradually moving lower after rising 10 cents last week from $4.01 to $4.11 per gallon. Drivers are now paying an average price a penny lower at $4.10 per gallon.
The average price per gallon Sunday in Escambia County was $3.91.
In North Escambia, a low of $3.84 could be found Sunday night at a gas station on Highway 29 in Cantonment. In Pensacola, the price per gallon bottomed out at $3.76 at stations on Nine Mile Road and the warehouse clubs.
“The rollercoaster ride at the pump continues,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “After rising two weeks ago, gas prices should remain tied to the price of oil, which was on its way back down last week. Based on wholesale and gasoline futures trends, gas prices could decline 5-10 cents, unless oil prices rebound again.”

The Escambia County School Board recently recognized 24 schools as Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Model Schools.
PBIS is a program to increase academic performance, increase safety, decrease problem behavior, and establish positive school cultures.
