Man Charged With Meth Distribution After Atmore Traffic Stop

A traffic stop in Atmore ended with an arrest and the recovery of nearly 15 grams of methamphetamine.
An Atmore Police Department officer stopped a vehicle driven by 43-year old Paul Ray Morris due to a switched tag.
Officers reported finding 14.9 grams of meth in a container located in the center console and a digital scale in a back floorboard.
Morris was charged with distribution of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Morris was booked into the Escambia County (AL) Detention Center without bond.

FWC Hunter Safety Course This Week At Molino Library

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is offering a free hunter safety internet-completion course in Molino on Wednesday, September 14 at 6 p.m.. Hunter safety courses are designed to help students become safe, responsible and knowledgeable hunters and learn about conservation.
Participants must take the online course before attending this class.
All firearms, ammunition and materials are provided free of charge. Students should bring a pen or pencil and paper. An adult must accompany children younger than 16 at all times.
Anyone born on or after June 1, 1975, must pass an approved hunter safety course and have a hunting license to hunt alone (unsupervised). The FWC course satisfies hunter-safety training requirements for all other states and Canadian provinces.

Gas Prices Dip, Several Escambia Stations Below $3 A Gallon

Florida gas prices declined again last week, dropping to the lowest levels since February. The state average declined 9 cents last week, falling to $3.45 per gallon on Sunday.
The average price per gallon Sunday in Escambia County was $3.24. A North Escambia low of $3.15 could be found on Highway 29 in Cantonment. In Pensacola, gas prices were as low as $2.95 at a Nine Mile Road station, with about a half dozen more below $3.
Gas prices are now on a 2-week streak of declines, falling a total of 17 cents. Despite a brief 9-cent uptick in late August, pump prices have largely declined throughout the summer. Drivers are now paying $1.44 per gallon less than what they paid in mid-June, according to AAA. That amounts to an average savings of nearly $22 on a full tank of gas.

Blue Wahoos Rally For Extra-Inning Win In Smokies Road Finale

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos charged back late to win their regular season road finale on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Tennessee Smokies 7-5 in 10 innings.
Trailing 4-3 in the ninth, back-to-back doubles from J.D. Osborne and Marcus Chiu forced extras before Nasim Nuñez and Osborne hit RBI singles in the 10th as the Blue Wahoos secured a series win over the Smokies.
Pensacola scored their first two runs without the benefit of a hit, as Will Banfield brought home Cobie Fletcher-Vance with a sacrifice fly in the first and Thomas Jones scored on a throwing error from Smokies starter DJ Herz in the third. In his Double-A debut, Blue Wahoos starter Luis Palacios allowed a two-run homer to Cole Roederer in the second inning but completed 5.0 innings with a 3-2 lead thanks to a Demetrius Sims RBI double in the top of the fifth.
The Smokies claimed a 4-3 lead in the sixth, putting a pair of runners on against Tyler Mitzel before Chandler Jozwiak surrendered a two-run double to Chase Strumpf.
The Pensacola bullpen held serve until the ninth, when the doubles from Osborne and Chiu sent the game to the bottom of the inning tied 4-4. Robinson Martínez (W, 2-1) stranded the winning run at third to force extra innings, where the Blue Wahoos pushed across three runs against Samuel Reyes (L, 4-1) to secure the win.
After an off day Monday, the Blue Wahoos return home for a six-game series against the Biloxi Shuckers on Tuesday evening.

Remembering: Our 9/11 Museum, World Trade Center Site Photos

The images are burned in our minds. The sight of two planes crashing into the twin towers of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
The site where the towers fell is a quiet spot in lower Manhattan that is home to 9/11 Memorial.

The Memorial remembers and honors the 2,983 people who were killed in the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993. The design, created by Michael Arad and Peter Walker, consists of two reflecting pools formed in the footprints of the original Twin Towers and a plaza of trees. The Museum displays monumental artifacts linked to the events of 9/11, while presenting intimate stories of loss, compassion, reckoning and recovery that are central to telling the story of the 2001 and 1993 attacks and the aftermath.
The Museum’s mission is to bear witness to 9/11. This place of violence is resurrected into a place of peace; a safe gathering place to mourn, comfort, heal and think.

- There are 2,983 names on the 9/11 Memorial, honoring the 2,977 people killed at the three attack sites on September 11, 2001 and the six people killed in the February 26, 1993 bombing at the World Trade Center.
- The 9/11 attacks killed 2,977 people. 2,753 people were killed in New York, 184 people were killed at the Pentagon and 40 people were killed on Flight 93.
- The largest loss of life of rescue personnel in American history occurred on September 11, 2001. 343 FDNY firefighters, along with 37 Port Authority Police Department officers and 23 New York Police Department officers, were killed. In total, 441 first responders representing over 30 agencies died on 9/11.
- The Memorial pools stand in the footprints of the Twin Towers. Each pool is one acre in size. There are 413 swamp white oak trees on the Memorial plaza, and one callery pear tree known as the Survivor Tree.

Tate AJROTC Marks 9/11 Anniversary

The Tate High School Army JROTC marked the anniversary of the September 11 attacks during Friday night’s football game at Pete Gindl Stadium.
Cadets kept watch over a “Remember 9/11″ memorial wreath for the duration of the game, despite heavy rainfall.

Woman On Motorized Shopping Cart Killed On Nine Mile Road

A woman on a motorized shopping cart was struck and killed on Nine Mile Road near University Parkway.
A van driven by a 38-year old woman was traveling west on Nine Mile Road just west of University as a 35-year old woman riding the shopping cart was crossing Nine Mile from south to north. An unknown vehicle stopped in the inside lane as the van was approaching, failing to yield the right of way, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. This caused the front of the van to collide with the right side of the shopping cart about 9:07 Friday night.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The woman driving the van was not injured.
