Numerous NorthEscambia.com readers reached out to us after seeing demolition and land clearing at West Kingsfield Road and Highway 297A in Cantonment asking what exactly is under construction.

We found that, according to Escambia County records, developer Chad Brown is creating 17 vacant residential lots on the property.

Flomaton Closes Parks, Municipal Building Lobby, And Senior Center Due To Coronavirus

The Town of Flomaton has closed all town parks, and the lobby area of the Flomaton Municipal Complex an the Flomaton Senior Center due to COVID-19.

All parks in the city limits are closed and entrances were marked as closed with crime scene tape Tuesday afternoon following a vote by the Flomaton Town Council.

The lobby is closed at the Flomaton Municipal Complex until further notice. All utility or court payments can be made at the drive-thru window or online. Anyone needed to speak to the police department can call (251) 296-5811 or use the call box by the front entry to the building. All essential services remain operational.

The Flomaton Senior Center is closed until further notice. Homebound participants will continue to receive meal deliveries Monday-Friday. Congregate participants are asked to pull up at the side door of the building between 11:30 a.m. and noon and staff will bring meals out. No one will be allowed inside except paid staff.

As of midnight Monday, no confirmed cases of coronavirus had been reported in Escambia County, AL.

Polls Are Open Today For The Presidential Preference Primary Election

Polls are open Tuesday 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. for the presidential preference primary.

Here’s what you need to know from the Escambia County Supervisor of Elections Office, including actions the elections office is taking due to coronavirus:

  • The health and safety of our community – including voters, poll workers and staff is our top concern.
  • Voters and election workers are reminded to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, like COVID 19 by taking everyday precautions.
  • We have directed our poll workers and staff to wipe down equipment frequently, to wash their hands thoroughly and often, as stay home if they’re sick.
  • Our office is providing each polling location with a limited supply of hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes and tissues; however, voters are encouraged to bring their own sanitary items with them to the polls as desired.
  • “Over-the-counter” Vote-by-Mail ballots can be picked up by voters (or their designees) at our office Saturday until 5 p.m., Monday, and Election Day (emergency only).
  • Confirm the location of your polling place. It is listed on your sample ballot, voter information card, online at EscambiaVotes.com, or call 595-3900.
  • Several polling locations have changed since the last election.
  • Busiest times at the polls tend to be 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m., and 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
  • If you are unsure of your registration status, check EscambiaVotes.com, e-mail us at soe@escambiavotes.com, or call 595-3900.
  • Photo and signature ID is required for all voters – if you do not present an approved form of ID, you may vote a provisional ballot.
  • Florida holds closed primary elections. Only registered Republicans and Democrats are eligible to vote in this election.
  • Registration books closed on February 18 – new registrations and party changes for this election may not be made at the polls.
  • You may not return your completed vote-by-mail ballot to your precinct on Election Day – it must be returned to the Elections Office by 7 p.m.
  • If you requested a vote-by-mail ballot but chose not to return it and wish to vote at your polling place instead, please bring your unvoted ballot package with you so it can be cancelled.

Beulah Road Lane Closures Beginning Wednesday Night

Drivers will encounter lane restrictions on Beulah Road (C.R. 99) 277 just north of the intersection with Nine Mile Road from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wed, Mar. 18 and Thurs, Mar. 19 as crews install right and left turn lanes on Beulah. http://ow.ly/d/8nwk

Drivers will encounter intermittent lane restriction on Beulah Road just north of the intersection of Nine Mile Road from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday, March 18 and Thursday, March 20 as crews install right and left turn lanes on Beulah Road.

All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.

Youth Ballparks Suspend All Practices And Games, Including Century, NWE, Molino, NEP, Atmore, Flomaton

Area youth ballparks have suspended all practices and games due to the coronavirus.

Century Little League

All practices have suspended until at least April 6. Games and opening day should be rescheduled.

Northwest Escambia Bradberry Park

All activities, practices and games are postponed until further notice.

Molino Ballpark

All events, games and practices are suspended until further notice.

NEP Ball Park

All games and practices are suspended for two weeks. There is no field use allowed during the closure.

Atmore Cal Ripken

All Cal Ripken Youth Baseball League practices in Atmore are postponed until further notice.

Flomaton Baseball and Softball Association

All practices and games are postponed until further notice.

Escambia Tax Collector Cutting Back On In-Person Services, Using Online Services Instead

Escambia County Tax Collector Scott Lunsford is taking several steps to reduce exposure by reducing the number of people inside his lobbies at all offices.

As of Tuesday, some services will be available online only Lunsford released the following information:

Online services only

  • ·         Property Tax Payments – Property tax payments are due by the end of March
  • ·         Business Tax Receipt – Businesses can renew and print their businesses tax receipts online
  • ·         BTExpress – Citizens and business owners can apply for a new business tax receipt or edit information on your current account
  • ·         Vehicle/Vessel Registration (Express Lane) – Renew online and pick up the same or next business day in one of our convenient drive thrus or have the registration mailed to you
  • ·         Hunting and Fishing License – Purchase or renew online

Full payment of fees is required at time of service, and payment may be made by eCheck, debit, or credit cards. Payments made by eCheck are fee-free. Credit and debit transactions are subject to convenience fees charged by the payment vendor(s). If you must pay by cash, you may visit a drive thru at our Downtown, Marcus Pointe, or Molino offices. Payments will not be taken in the lobby areas.

These options have also been removed from our online queuing system.

Additionally, we are not accepting any new appointments for driving tests, medical reviews, or concealed weapon permits. Walk-in driving exams are suspended immediately.

Remember if you are currently Real ID compliant and your last driver license or identification card renewal was done in an office, you may be eligible to renew online. A 30-day extension has been issued for those citizens whose licenses or identification cards expire between March 16, 2020 and April 15, 2020.

Council On Aging Announces Senior Dining Site Changes Due To Coronavirus

The Council on Aging of West Florida has announced changes to its senior meal program in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties due to COVID-19.

All participants at senior dining sites in both Escambia and Santa Rosa counties will now receive their meals pre-plated. Participants at all sites will be encouraged to take the meals home.

Escambia County

  • Cantonment (132 Mintz Ln.): Pre-plate, participants’ choice to stay at site or go home.
  • Century (6025 Industrial Blvd.): Pre-plate, participants’ choice to stay at site or go home.
  • Beulah (7425 Woodside Dr.): Pre-plated meals must be picked up and participants must return home.
  • Westminster Village 1 (1700 N. L St.) & 5 (1951 W. Blount St.): Pre-plate, participants’ choice to stay at site or go home.
  • Ebonwood (3511 N. W St.): Closed for Spring Break
  • Wedgewood (6405 Wagner Rd.): Pre-plated meals must be picked up and participants must return home.
  • Westwood Homes (4400 Westover Ave.): Pre-plated meals must be picked up and participants must return home.

Pensacola

Within the City of Pensacola, Bayview, Cobb, Fricker and Gull Point centers will close; however, participants at all sites are welcome to receive to-go pre-plated meals at Bayview and Cobb. They must call (850) 432-1475 by noon the day before to reserve a plate.

Santa Rosa County

  • City of Milton Community Center (5629 Byrom St.): Pre-plated to-go meals can be picked up from Council on Aging in Bagdad, 6860 Pooley St.
  • Chumuckla (2355 Hwy 182 West) & Bagdad (6860 Pooley St.): TBD
  • Pace (4540 Chumuckla Hwy.): First Methodist Church is closed for two weeks.
  • Christ United Methodist Church (5983 Dogwood St.): TBD

Clyde Albert Bristow, Sr.

Mr. Clyde Albert Bristow, Sr., age 78, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2020 in Pensacola, Flordia.

Mr. Bristow was a native of Engadine, MI, former resident of McAlester, OK and had resided in Atmore, AL for the past 3 years. He was a member of the Liberty Riders Motorcyle Club of Lake George, MI and was of the Church of God Faith. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Esther Lydia Bristow; son, Randy Keith Bristow and sister, Joyce Moore.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Loretta Bristow of Atmore, AL; two sons, Donald Edward (Vicki) Bristow of Newberry, MI and Clyde Albert (Jody) Bristow of Dothan, AL; one daughter, Esther Lydia Pennell of Slocomb, AL; daughter-in-law, Karen Bristow of Van Buren, AR; one brother, Donald Bristow of Little Rock, AR; one sister, Margaret Nicholas of Alma, AR; ten grandchildren, Randy, Kyle, Jessica, Aaron, Matthew, Brandy, James, Joshua, Wyatt and Aurora and ten great grandchildren, Averie, Macie, Randy III, Elissa, Riley, Luke, Joseph, Maddison, Tessa and Mason.

Lyman Allen Quinley

On Monday, March 9, 2020, Lyman Allen Quinley, a loving stepfather, grandfather and great grandfather passed away at the age of 66. Lyman Allen Quinley was born in Bay Minette, Alabama, to Willie Mae Dixon
Quinley and Lyman Quinley on March 16, 1953.

He was preceded in death by his wife Faye Quinley, Mother Willie Mae Dixon Quinley, and father Lyman Quinley.

He is survived by his stepsons Tony (Sheron)Nall of Milton, Florida, and Gary (Carmen) Nall of Opelousas, Louisiana, and one stepdaughter Cathy (Duane) Bond of Century, Florida. Also, a sister, Saber Ann Simmons of Stapleton, Alabama and brothers Charles Michael Quinley, Thomas Kevin (Diann) Quinley of Stapleton, Alabama. Paul Timothy (Margaret) Quinley of Bay Minette, Alabama, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren.

Lyman graduated from West Point Military Academy and was a Vietnam vet. He then went on to work for Exxon Mobile for 30 plus years until he retired in 2014. In his free time, Lyman enjoyed working as an auctioneer and car salesman. He made Canoe, Alabama, his final home where he and his wife Faye made some beautiful memories together.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Rest in Peace Lyman Quinley. You will be missed dearly.
