At The Bottom Of The SPHL Standings, Pensacola Ice Flyers Oust Head Coach

The Pensacola Ice Flyers have outsted their head coach as the team sits at the bottom of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) standings.

The Ice Flyers announced Monday that Gary Graham was been relieved of his coaching duties effective immediately.

Graham, who led the Ice Flyers to their first President’s Cup championship in 2013, returned to the team in July 2023.

“We are grateful to Gary for his dedication and hard work with the Ice Flyers and wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” said owner Greg Harris.

Former Ice Flyers head coach Rod Aldoff will step in as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Aldoff brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record, having previously led the team to three championship victories.

“Rod has been an integral part of our organization’s success in the past. His familiarity with our team culture and his coaching acumen make him the right choice to guide us through the remainder of the season and become a playoff contender,” Harris said.

Northview Chiefs Beat W.S. Neal 6-1 Monday Night

The Northview Chiefs defeated the W.S. Neal Eagles 6-1 on Monday night in East Brewton.

Braynt Mason struck out 10 batters for the Chiefs, allowing two hits and one run while walking five in seven innings.

Grayden Sheffield led Northview with two RBIs. Cole Davis, Jase Portwood and Brady Smith each record two hits.

Northview will travel to Paxton on Thursday before hosting the Escambia Gators on Friday.

Padgett and Wine Homer As Tate Beats West Florida 11-4

The Tate Lady Aggies beat the West Florida Jags 11-4 on Friday night in their final preseason game.

Mykamia Padgett and Kara Wine both hit homeruns for the Aggies during an eight run third inning. Padgett’s dinger was to center field to score two runs and Wine homered to center field to score three runs.

Padgett earned the win for the Aggies in the circle, giving up two hits and one unearned run in three innings while walking one and striking out three. Peyton Womack three four innings in relief, allowing three hits and three runs (one earned) while waking six and striking out two.

Wine went 2-4 for the Aggies with her three RBIs. Padgett, Madison Smillie, Lacy Wilson, and Womack each had two hits for Tate.

Next, the Lady Aggies will take on Crestview on Thursday.

Northview Chiefs Beat The Walton Braves 12-1

The Northview Chiefs beat the Walton Braves 12-1 Friday night in Bratt.

Grayden Sheffield earned the win on the mound for Northview, giving up three hits and one run (unearned) in four and two-thirds innings, while walking four and striking out nine.

Brady Smith led the Chiefs at the plate, going 2-3 with three RBIs.

Up next, Northview will travel to W.S. Neal on Monday.

Jace Gandy Named New Flomaton Hurricanes Head Football Coach

The Flomaton Hurricane have hired Jacy Gandy as their new head coach.

Last season, he was a co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for the Spanish Fort Toros after working as defensive coordinator for the Northview Chiefs. He also served as a defensive coordinator for the Tate Aggies.

Longtime Flomaton High School head football coach Doug Vickery announced his retirement in December after 19 years with the Hurricanes. uring those 19 years, Vickery led the Hurricanes to their first-ever state championship in 2018, and there have been five quarterfinal appearances. Three of his boys played football for Flomaton during his tenure.

Tate Aggies Easily Beat Washington; Northview Falls To Milton

The Tate Aggies varsity and junior varsity made quick work of the Washington Wildcats Thursday, while the Northview Chiefs varsity and junior varsity slipped to the Milton Panthers.

Tate 24, Washington 1

After scoring 16 in the first inning, the Tate Aggies beat the Washington Wildcats 24-1 Thursday night.

Nathan Ozuna had a second inning solo homer to left field as he went 3-3 for the night. Griffen Cook was also 3-3. Cal Foxworth was 2-3 with five RBIs. Hunter Clayton had four RBIs, while most of the team had at least one RBI in the big win.

Taite Davis earned the win for Tate, giving up four hits and one unearned run in four innings, walking one and striking out three.

Tate 18, Washington 0 (JV)

The junior varsity Tate Aggies shut out Washington 18-0 Thursday.

Lance Brady, Aydan Nigam, and Chandler St.Amant had three RBIs each for Tate. Brady had four hits in five at bats.

Milton 11, Northview 5

The Northview Chiefs fell to the Milton Panthers 11-5 Thursday in Bratt.

Braynt Mason surrendered two hits and three runs in four innings on the mound for the Chiefs while striking out six and walking three. Jase Portwood pitched two, allowing five hits and six runs while walking two and striking out three.

Jayden White went 2-3 to lead Northview at the plate. Cole Davis, Kelan Jury, and Jayden White each had one RBI for the Chiefs.

Northview will host Walton at 6:30 on Friday.

Milton 11, Northview 8 (JV)

Milton’s junior varsity defeated Northview 11-8 Thursday.

Kobi Fiorenti had three RBIs for the JV Chiefs, while Caleb Levins had two. Will Strawbridge was 2-2 at bat.

Christian Roberts went three and a third innings for Northview, allowing six hits and nine runs while striking out six and walking five. Tyler McAnally was on the mound for one and two-third innings, allowing eight hits and 11 runs while striking out eight.

Former Northview Coach Wes Summerford Named WFHS Jags Head Coach

Wes Summerford has been named the new head football coach for the West Florida High School Jaguars.

Summerford spent the last five seasons as head coach for Northview, where the Chiefs were state runner-up in 2022. At Northview he was 2022 FHSAA Class 1R Coach of the Year and the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year.

“West Florida is where I fell in love with coaching football and this is a homecoming for me,” Summerford said Thursday morning has he was introduced to the Jaguars team. He previously worked as the outside linebackers coach and defensive coordinator for West Florida.

“Wes Summerford knows West Florida. He understands our students. He knows what it’s going to take to build a winner,” WFHS Athletic Director Todd Leonard said. “Coach Summerford demonstrates great leadership, he has a great understanding of our school, and he has the right temperament to fit our program.”

A timetable for announcing his replacement at Northview has not been announced.

Summerford was 32-23 overall during his tenure with the Chiefs. Northview recorded winning seasons from 2020-2022, including 13-1 in their run to the state championship game in 2022. The Chiefs went 4-7 in 2023 and 2-8 last season.

Northview Chiefs Fall To South Walton In Season Opener (With Gallery)

The 1A Northview Chiefs fell 17-0 in their season opener Tuesday night, to South Walton, last year’s 4A state runner-up.

The Seahawks, with roster that boosts several major league prospects that drew a small crowd of scouts to Bratt Tuesday night, took an early 5-0 lead in the first and never looked back.

Grayden Sheffield led the Chiefs with one hit in two at bats.

Jayden White opened on the mound for Northview, giving up three hits and 10 runs, four of which were earned, in two innings, striking out none while walking five. Dane King pitched one and a third innings, including through a moderate rain shower, giving up two hits and seven runs while waking four and striking out one. Brayt Mason closed two-thirds of an inning, surrendering one hit and striking out two.

Tate Lady Aggies Beat Escambia (With Gallery)

February 11, 2025

The Tate Lady Aggies defeated the Escambia Gators 15-0 in their preseason opener Monday night at Tate.

Kara Win went 3-3 for the Aggies with a double in the fourth, triple in the third and a single in the second inning. Jordan Smith was 2-2 at the plate. Tate also had one hit each from Peyton Womack, Aubree Jordan, Lacy Wilson, Amburleigh Laird, Madison Smilie, Kylie Mitchell, and MyKamia Padgett.

Jordan Smith earned the win in the circle for the Lady Aggies, allowing one hit and no runs in two innings while striking out six and walking none. Mykamia Padgett threw two innings of shutout ball for Tate in relief. She gave up no hits, striking out four and walking none.

The Lady Aggies will host West Florida at 6:30 Thursday in another preseason game.
