Northview Chiefs JV Downs Flomaton, Varsity Falls In Four Set Match (With Gallery)

The Northview Chiefs and Flomaton Hurricanes had a split night on Monday in Bratt. The Hurricanes took the varsity win, while the Lady Chiefs took the JV match win.
Flomaton 3, Northview 1
The Northview Chiefs varsity volleyball team was defeated by the Flomaton Hurricanes in a four-set match on Monday evening in Bratt. Despite a strong effort and a victory in the second set, the Chiefs were unable to overcome the Hurricanes’ consistent play.
Flomaton started strong in the first set, taking an early lead and winning 25-14.
The Chiefs responded with determination in the second set, quickly finding their rhythm. Northview’s strong performance evened the match, as they took the set with a score of 25-21.
However, the Hurricanes came back to win the next two sets, 25-20 and 25-19, to claim the overall victory.

Northview will look for redemption on in a district game at Baker on Thursday.
Northview 2, Flomaton 1 (JV)
The Northview Chiefs junior varsity volleyball team secured a victory against the Flomaton Hurricanes Tuesday in Bratt, winning the match in a three-set battle by the score of 2-1.
Northview started the match strong, taking control in the first set. Their consistent serves and effective offense allowed them to build a commanding lead, and they closed out the set with a solid 25-17 win.

However, the Flomaton Hurricanes responded with determination in the second set. They quickly found their rhythm and put the Chiefs on the defensive. Flomaton’s strong performance evened the match, as they took the set with a score of 25-18.

Tate Freshmen Win, Catholic Edges Out The JV And Varsity Aggies

The Tate Aggies freshmen defeated the Catholic as the Crusaders edged out the Aggies JV and varsity during Tate’s first home games of the season on Monday.
Catholic 3, Tate 1
The Tate Aggies lost their first home volleyball match against the Pensacola Catholic Crusaders, with a final score of 3-1.
Tate struggled in the first set, losing 25-12. However, they fought back in the second set, winning 25-22 to tie the match. Pensacola Catholic then won the next two sets, 25-21 and 25-16, to secure the victory.
Up next, Aggies will host Pensacola High on Wednesday and will be at Pine Forest on Thursday
Tate 2, Catholic 1 (Freshmen)
The Tate High School Aggies freshmen volleyball team defeated the Catholic High School Crusaders 2-1 in a three-set match in their first home game of the season.
The Aggies lost the first set 22-25, but they rallied in the second set to win 25-22.
The decisive third set went down to the wire, but the Aggies secured the win with a 15-12 victory.
Catholic 2, Tate 1 (JV)
The Tate Aggies junior varsity volleyball team lost to the Catholic Crusaders 2-1 Monday night.
The Aggies struggled in the first set, losing 25-8 to Catholic.
The Aggies won the second set 25-22, but in the decisive third se Catholic won 15-13 .

Escambia School Board Honors Northview Lady Chiefs Softball

The Escambia County School Board recently honored the Northview Lady Chiefs state runner-up softball team.
The Chiefs reached the FHSAA Rural Softball State Championship game for the first time in school history, bringing home the state runner-up trophy. The young team with just one senior also won the first regional title ever for the school as they went 22-7 under the leadership of head coach Amy Holland.
Many members of the team are multi-sport athletes and were unable to attend the school board meeting due to a volleyball game.

Wahoos Quieted By Columbus Pitching In Finale Defeat

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos (60-59) ended their week and road series with a 8-1 defeat to the Columbus Clingstones (52-65).
Pensacola struck first in the top of the second inning. Facing Columbus righthander Brett Sears (W, 6-4), Blue Wahoos second baseman Gage Miller hit a leadoff solo home run to left field. The long ball was Miller’s first career Double-A homer.
Despite the early offense, Pensacola mustered nothing more against Sears, who worked 5.2 effective innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts. The Clingstones responded offensively in the bottom of the second inning, tying the game on an RBI groundout from second baseman Cal Conley.
Columbus broke the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the third inning against Pensacola starter Jacob Miller (L, 3-6). With a runner in scoring position and one out, an error in center field by Emaarion Boyd allowed Columbus shortstop Jim Jarvis to score from second base. Two batters later, first baseman E.J. Exposito singled home right fielder Ethan Workinger to give the Clingstones a 3-1 lead.
Columbus added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning when designated hitter Geraldo Quintero and E.J. Exposito hit back-to-back RBI doubles. At the end of five innings, Columbus led 5-1.
The Clingstones tacked on additional scoring in the seventh and eighth innings. Columbus’ late offense and strong bullpen performance were more than enough to close out an 8-1 win and a 4-2 series victory over Pensacola.
With the defeat, Pensacola returns home 0.5 games ahead of the Clingstones and will be no more than 0.5 games ahead of Montgomery in the Southern League’s South Division after the conclusion of Sunday’s games. There are 19 games remaining in the regular season.
The Blue Wahoos return home on Tuesday, August 26 when they begin a seven-game series versus the Chattanooga Lookouts.
Tate Aggies Hold Annual Lil Aggies Fall Cheer Clinic (With Gallery)

Tate High School Cheerleading held their annual Lil Aggies Fall Cheer Clinic on Saturday at the school.
Dozens of Lil Aggies took part in the clinic and a parent showcase.
The clinic taught athletes proper stretch techniques, Tate sideline cheers, proper jump techniques and motion placement, as well as stunting and tumbling skill building.

White’s Start Spoiled In Late Loss To Clingstones

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos dropped their third game in a row to the Columbus Clingstones on Saturday night, falling 4-1 despite a strong start from Thomas White.
White, the top prospect in the Marlins organization, worked 4.2 scoreless innings and struck out seven batters to lower his Double-A ERA to 1.79 in nine starts. Though he tied a career-high with four walks, the lefty stranded seven runners on base in the first four innings to keep out of trouble.
The Blue Wahoos scored their lone run in the second inning off Clingstones starter Brian Moran, turning a Mark Coley II single and stolen base into a 1-0 lead thanks to a pair of passed balls from Columbus catcher Adam Zebrowski.
Despite many opportunities to grow their lead, the Blue Wahoos went 0-for-10 with men in scoring position. Their inability to add on came back to haunt them in the seventh, when Zebrowski laced a two-out RBI single to left field off Nigel Belgrave (L, 5-2) to tie the game 1-1.
After Tyler LaPorte (W, 1-3) worked around a leadoff Jared Serna double to keep the game tied in the top of the eighth, Belgrave ran into more trouble in the bottom half of the inning. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for Patrick Clohisy, who lined a three-run triple into the right field corner for a 4-1 Clingstones lead.
Rolddy Muñoz (S, 6) pitched around a two-out walk to save the game in the ninth, sending the Blue Wahoos to their third consecutive loss.
With the defeat, the Blue Wahoos saw their lead over the second-place Montgomery Biscuits shrink to 1.0 game in the second-half division race. There are 20 games remaining in the regular season.

Tate Aggies Open Season With Big 21-7 Win Over Fort Walton Beach (With Gallery)

The Tate Aggies opened the season at home with a strong 21-7 win over Fort Walton Beach on Friday night at Pete Gindl Stadium.
The Aggies were first on the big video board when sophomore quarterback Miles Delarosa found senior Elijah West for a 77-yard touchdown for a 7-0 lead with just under five minutes to go in the first quarter.
The Aggies worked their way back into the red zone, but a pass into the end zone was incomplete with just one second to go in the half.
The Delarosa-West combo paid off again for the Aggies with 6:05 left in the third quarter to make it 14-0.
The Fort Walton Beach Vikings scored their only points with 3:08 left in the third quarter as the Aggies went on to their 21-7 opening night win in a game that had started 30 minutes late due to a lightning delay.

Wahoos Drop 3-2 Nailbiter To Clingstones

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos lost their second game in a row on Friday night, falling 3-2 to the Columbus Clingstones in a low-scoring affair.
The Clingstones jumped ahead 1-0 in the second inning with a pair of singles from Adam Zebrowski and Drew Compton, followed by a sacrifice fly from Geraldo Quintero. That would be the only run allowed by Blue Wahoos starter Orlando Ortiz-Mayr, who worked 4.0 innings of three-hit, one-run ball.
After being stymied for four innings against Clingstones ace Ian Mejia (W, 11-2), the Blue Wahoos put together a rally in the fifth. Jared Serna laced a bases-loaded single to center field to tie the game 1-1, but both Kemp Alderman and Tony Bullard were retired to end the threat.
Columbus wasted no time in taking the lead back, stringing together three singles off Gabe Bierman (L, 0-2) in the bottom of the fifth. Jim Jarvis slapped an RBI single through the drawn-in Pensacola infield to score EJ Exposito and give the Clingstones a 2-1 edge.
Will Schomberg was greeted rudely in his Double-A debut for Pensacola, issuing a leadoff walk to Geraldo Quintero in the sixth before David Fletcher singled in an insurance run. Schomberg would bounce back, eventually completing 3.0 innings of relief without allowing another hit, but the third Clingstones run would prove to be the difference.
Fenwick Trimble got a run back for the Blue Wahoos with a seventh-inning solo homer, his second in as many days, but two late pickoffs squandered Pensacola’s opportunities to tie the game. Elison Joseph (S, 6) worked around a one-out single in the ninth inning to seal the 3-2 final.
With the loss, the Blue Wahoos saw their lead over the second-place Montgomery Biscuits shrink to 1.5 games in the second-half division race. There are 21 games remaining in the regular season.
The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Clingstones on Saturday night.
