Tate Aggies Boys Golf Wins District Title; Heads To Regionals On Monday

For the first time in school history, the Tate High School Boys Golf Team has captured the district championship, marking a milestone achievement for the Aggies and a proud moment for the entire Tate community.

With steady, composed play from all five golfers, the Aggies secured the top spot and punched their ticket to the regional tournament in Oviedo, Florida, on Monday, November 3.

Leading the Aggies was Baylor Touchstone, who carded a team-best 72, demonstrating both precision and poise throughout the round. Jaxson Thomason followed closely with an impressive 73, delivering clutch shots that kept Tate in contention all day. Parker Hassell contributed a solid 79, while Ben Robinson and Jacob Drysdale each posted rounds of 82, rounding out a well-balanced team performance.

Head Coach William Griffitts expressed deep pride in his team’s effort and faith following the historic win. “This district win was monumental for the boys program, and I give all the credit to these athletes for putting in all the time and effort,” said Griffitts. “We strive for perfection and for more wins to come in the future. All glory to God.”

The championship caps off a season defined by hard work, focus, and steady improvement, hallmarks of a team that has been quietly climbing the ranks of high school golf in Northwest Florida. With the district trophy now in hand, the Aggies turn their focus to the regional championship in Oviedo. The team hopes to carry its momentum into the next round and continue its historic postseason run.

“This win means a lot for us, but we’re staying focused,” said Touchstone. “We’re proud of what we accomplished, but we know the job’s not done yet.”

The district title represents more than just a victory; it marks the beginning of a new chapter for Tate High School golf. With a combination of talent, teamwork, and composure, the Aggies have proven they can rise to the challenge and make history in the process. As they head to Oviedo, the Tate Aggies carry not only the pride of their school but also the distinction of being the first boys team in Tate history to call themselves district champions.

Escambia Tax Collector Begins Collection Of Over $526 Million In Taxes

Collection has started for real estate and tangible personal property taxes in Escambia County. According to Escambia County Tax Collector Scott Lunsford, this year’s rolls include 184,873 accounts totaling over $526 million. Bills were delivered to the post office on October 31 for mailing.

Tax revenue is generated for the various taxing authorities and is approximated as follows:

Escambia County Board of County Commissioners – $256 million
District School Board – $193 million
City of Pensacola – $34 million
Sheriff MSTU – $16.5 million
Escambia Children’s Trust – $12.5 million
Library MSTU – $11.8 million
Northwest Florida Water Management – $697,000
Downtown Improvement Board – $875,000
Town of Century – $59,800

MSBU collections are detailed as follows:

County Fire Protection – $37.5 million
City Stormwater – $4.8 million
Other MSBUs – $994,000

Payment discounts are available as follows

November payments are discounted 4%
December payments are discounted 3%
January payments are discounted 2%
February payments are discounted 1%
March payments receive no discount, and the gross amount is due by close of business on March 31, 2026. Any payment made April 1 and after is considered delinquent and will be assessed a penalty.

UWF’s Perfect Season Remains Intact With Wild Road Win Over Delta State

The undefeated season continues for the Argos.

No. 3 West Florida defeated No. 15 Delta State on Saturday evening in Cleveland, Miss., 51-38 to move to 9-0 and get their third win of the season over a top 25 ranked opponent.
It was the highest combined score for an Argos game this season with 89 points scored. When it looked like UWF was going to run away with the game from the start Delta State had a response in what was a shootout game for four quarters.

“I love our resilience,” said head coach Kaleb Nobles. “We’ve been in tough battles on the road. That’s a tough win. That’s a playoff caliber team. Man, I’m proud of our guys,”

UWF finished the game with 279 rushing yards and 189 passing yards. Leading the offense was quarterback Marcus Stokes who did a little bit of everything in the game. Stokes was 16-of-22 for 178 yards passing with a touchdown while also leading the team in rushing with 133 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns. The redshirt sophomore also sealed the game with a 61-yard rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter to give UWF the 51-38 lead. The Argos rushed for five touchdowns in total including two by TJ Lane and one by Ty’Ray Davis in addition to the two from Stokes.

It was a strange game for the Argo defense who only gave up 104 rushing yards and forced Delta State’s quarterback Garrett Ames into just six completions on 25 passing attempts. But those six completions went for 232 yards and three touchdowns. The Statesmen averaged 38.7 yards per completion. DSU wide receiver Curtis Rearden caught four of those passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns. Outside of those four completions, West Florida didn’t allow the hosts to get into any type of offensive rhythm. Tony Newsome helped the Argos retain the lead as he picked off two passes on back-to-back Delta State drives in the fourth quarter.

FIRST HALF
UWF took a quick 14-0 lead and were hitting on all cylinders. Stokes set the Argos up in scoring position with a 40-yard run on the opening drive. TJ Lane capped things off with a 4-yard touchdown run.

After forcing a quick three and out UWF used a five-minute drive to march down the field and score again. Stokes found Tyshon Mansell in the back of the endzone to put the Argos up two scores.
The Argos had a key defensive stop after a fumble set Delta State up at the UWF 13-yard line. UWF held the Statesmen to a field goal.

The second quarter was one of the most entertaining of the season with 38 points scored in the quarter alone. UWF took its biggest lead of the game when Davis took a quarterback keeper to the endzone to take a 21-3 lead.

With all the momentum leaning UWF’s the only answer Delta State had on offense was deep throws to Rearden. The receiver caught a 33-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 11 points.

The UWF special teams unit got into the scoring frenzy when Lumpy DeWeese scooped up a mishandled punt by DSU and took it into the endzone. But on the ensuing kickoff Delta State returned the kick for a 97-yard score to make the score 28-17.

Rearden again caught a long pass for a touchdown cutting the UWF lead to just four with a minute remaining in the first half.

Brogan Woeber capitalized on a fantastic late half drive into scoring range with a 30-yard field goal for the final points of the half. The teams went into the break with UWF leading 31-24.

SECOND HALF
Despite being in control for most of the first half Delta State tied the game at 31-31 midway through the third quarter when the Statesmen returned a fumble for a touchdown for the first score of the half.

The Argos’ resilience was on full display on the next drive as the offense had their longest drive of the game. UWF used an 11 play, 81-yard drive that resulted in a Stokes rushing touchdown to settle the team and get the Argos back in control. The drive chewed up over seven minutes of game time.

Newsome grabbed his first pick of the game which set up Lane’s second rushing touchdown of the game to give UWF a two-score advantage.

Following an 86-yard TD pass to Rearden to again cut the lead to a one possession game the Argos had a pressure-filled drive with five minutes remaining in the game. With the ability to run the time down and seal the game Nobles made the gutsy call to go for it on fourth down and inches at their own 38-yard line. The Argos picked it up and two plays later closed out the game with a 61-yard touchdown run by Stokes.

UP NEXT
West Florida will be on a bye week this upcoming week. The Argos will have a chance to complete its first-ever undefeated regular season in two weeks when the team hosts Valdosta State for the regular season finale on Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. With a win in that game UWF would also claim the Gulf South Conference title.

Ice Flyers Beat Macon 2-1 (With Gallery)

Saturday night at the Hanger, the Ice Flyers battled the Macon Mayhem in front of 5,414 fans in a thrilling contest that went the distance. The first period remained scoreless as both goaltenders stood tall.

Macon’s Conor Witherspoon broke the deadlock in the second period, but Dawson Sciarrino answered back with his first professional goal to tie the game at 1-1. The score remained tied through the third period, sending the game to overtime.

The overtime period saw no scoring, pushing the game to a shootout. Justin Thompson scored for Macon on their second attempt, then Tyler Burnie evened things up on the Ice Flyers’ fourth chance. In the final round, Lukas Jirousek sealed the deal with the game-winning goal, giving the Ice Flyers a dramatic shootout victory on Day of the Dead Night.

The Ice Flyers will travel to Knoxville next weekend for a pair of games on the 7th and 8th then return home to the Hangar for Adult Jersey Giveaway Night on November 14 and Small Dog Race Night presented by Frazier & Deeter on November 15.

Alleged Century Drug Dealer Charged With Attacking Customer With A Kids Chair

An alleged Century drug dealer has been charged with attacking a customer with a kids folding chair.

Kiauna Shanne Grice, 35, was charged with battery and criminal mischief with property damage She was arrested this week on outstanding warrants for the alleged incident on October 9.

The victim went to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Century Precinct to file a complaint. The man told deputies that he had gone to her Backwoods Road residence to purchase spice from Grice and that an argument broke out after the transaction. The victim claimed that as he sat in his dad’s Dodge truck, Grice grabbed a child’s folding camping chair and struck him in the head. The strike also caused damage to the truck’s passenger-side window, estimated at $250.

The vehicle owner, who was present during the dispute, corroborated the account, telling deputies that he witnessed Grice strike both his son and the truck with the chair. Deputies noted a visible lump on the alleged victim’s head at the time of the report.

When investigators interviewed Grice at the scene, she acknowledged having an argument with the victim but denied striking anyone. However, deputies noted the appearance of the chair and the damaged window were consistent with the victim’s account, leading them to prepare a warrant affidavit for the charges.

Grice was released from the Escambia County Jail on a $7,500 bond.

The alleged victim, who had claimed to have purchased spice from Grice, was not charged with any crime.

Believe: Northview Chiefs Plant Their Flag With Emotional 28-14 Win Over Flomaton (With Gallery)

Believe.

That was the single word Northview Chiefs head coach Doug Vickery wrote on a marker board.

He believed in his Chiefs, his boys, as he headed back to Flomaton High School on homecoming night for the Hurricanes, the team he led to a state championship and left last year after 19 years as head coach.

And Friday night, the Chiefs planted their flag on the Hurricanes’ field with a 28-14 win on the night that the lights went out.

“God has rejuvenated me. He’s humbled me, because I got cocky when I was here (at Flomaton). And I’ve learned so much,” Vickery said in the team huddle after the game. “That’s why I do it because the boys have bought in, and God has blessed me so much with you guys.”

As he spoke, the Flomaton stadium lights were cut, and the Northview players erupted into chants of “Our house, our house!”

“You know you done made them mad when they turn the lights out!” Vickery yelled.

After a long pass from Northview quarterback Caleb Levins to Tyson Phifer to set up first and goal from about the 5-yard-line, Levins was in for the touchdown to give Northview a 6-0 lead. The Hurricanes answered by Zykenzie Martin to punch it to put Flomaton up 7-6.

Northview’s Levins then found Phifer on a long pass, setting up another Levins touchdown. With a good 2-point conversion, Northview held a 14-7 advantage at the half.

With 7:04 to go in the third quarter, Northview’s Jackson Helton returned an interception from about 60 yards out to make it Northview 20, Flomaton 7. After a Flomaton TD, Levins added another touchdown for the Chiefs with 52.7 seconds left in the game for the final 28-14 score.

Northview’s season came to an end at 3-7 over all, 1-4 in the Rural Davison. Flomaton ended their regular season at 6-4, 3-3 in 3A Region 1 as they head into playoffs next week in Montgomery.
