Driver’s License, Tag, Tax Collector Services Today In Century, Walnut Hill Next Week

Mark your calendar…driver’s license and other tax collector services will be available in Century today and next week in Walnut Hill.

The Escambia County Tax Collector will be at the:

  • Billy G. Ward Courthouse in Century on Thursday, September 19, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Walnut Hill Community Center on Tuesday, September 24 from 10 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Mobile Licensing and Identification Office (MILO) is a fully functional tax collector office on wheels, offering a range of services. The mobile unit provides a convenient method to renew a driver license, obtain a replacement driver license, conversion/reciprocation of out-of-state license, change a name or address on a current driver license or identification card, and get a first-time identification card. In addition to licensing services, the mobile unit also provides an opportunity to renew or replace a vehicle registration, receive a parking placard, transfer a title, pay property taxes, and apply for a business tax receipt. Written and driving tests are not available from the MILO unit.

The Walnut Hill Community Center, also known as the “Ruritan Building”, is at 7850 Highway 97, just north of Ernest Ward Middle School and the fire department. The Billy G. Courthouse is at 7500 North Century Boulevard.

Tate Aggies Looking For Fifth Straight Win Tonight Against West Florida

The Tate High School Aggies will take their 4-0 record on the road Thursday night to take on the West Florida Jaguars.

Tate is coming off a strong 30-14 homecoming night win over the Milton Panthers last week.

Tate has not started a season at 4-0 since 2016, and they dropped that fifth game that year to Niceville on the way to a 9-3 season.

Now Tate is on a roll as they head down to Burgess Road looking for five consecutive wins for the first time in over 20 years.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Also Thursday night, Jay will host Chipley at 7 p.m.

Authorities Search For Man Wanted For Attacking Woman In Flomaton

September 18, 2024

Authorities in Alabama and Flomaton and searching for a man that allegedly attacked a woman Tuesday afternoon not far from the state line.

Flomaton Police Chief Dereck Lowry said 38-year-old Christopher Moody is wanted for on female charges of kidnapping, burglary and assault.

Lowry said a female had pulled to the side of the road near a railroad trestle in the area of Railroad Street and Martin Luther King Drive when Moody approached.

“After she stopped, she cracked her door open and he came out of nowhere,” the police chief said. He said Moodey assaulted the woman and attempted to rob her before fleeing. A K-9 team responded for a manhunt, but they were hampered by a sudden downpour.

Moody was described as a being a homeless individual from Mobile.

The area of the alleged crime is about 1,200 feet north of the Alabama-Florida state line. The Escambia County (FL) Sheriff’s Office also took part in the search for Moody.

Anyone with information on Mooday’s whereabouts is asked to call the Flomaton Police Department at (251) 296-5811, their local law enforcement agency or 911.

Wednesday Is An Early Release Day For Escambia County Schools

Wednesday, September 18 is an early release for all Escambia County Public School students.

Escambia County Public Schools scheduled three early-release days for students during the 2023-2024 school year. The remaining early release dates will be Wednesday, September 18, 2024, Wednesday November 6, 2024, and Wednesday, February 5, 2025.

There are also early-release dates immediately prior to Christmas Break and the last day of the 2024-2025 School Year. Those additional dates for students early-release are Friday, December 20, 2024, and Friday, May 23, 2025.
On all early release dates schools will serve lunch and regular transportation will be provided. For more information or questions about your school’s specific release time, please contact the school.

The early release days are intended to provide teachers and staff with regular opportunities for professional development.
