Tate FFA Alumni Rodeo Continues Tonight

There’s one more chance to see real rodeo action this weekend.

The second night of the 34th Annual Tate FFA Alumni Foundation Rodeo will be Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Escambia County Equestrian Center on Mobile Highway.  The arena is covered, and the rodeo will take place rain or shine.

Tickets can now be purchased on GoFan. General admission tickets are $15 at the tate, $5 for children. Children ages 5 and under are admitted free.

Today Is The Deadline To Apply For Teacher Hiring Event On Saturday

Escambia County Public Schools is hosting an in-person Teacher Hiring Event on Saturday. to fill teacher positions for the 2025-2026 school year, but the deadline to apply to attend is today, May 1.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 3 from 9-11:30 a.m. at Washington High School, 6000 College Parkway in Pensacola.

All interested persons must have a bachelor’s degree or higher, complete the online application to attend the hiring event, and must submit official transcripts before the day of the hiring event. Full-time teaching positions at all grade levels will be available for the 2025-2026 school year.

Applicants should be prepared for on-the-spot interviews and job offers, and must bring their resume and identification cards. Onboarding will be completed at the hiring event with our teams from Human Resources and Risk Management departments.

“We want our schools to be fully staffed for the new school year in August and persons interviewing may have the opportunity to secure a teaching position before leaving the event,” said ECPS Director of Human Resource Services Melia Adams. “We need educators who will make a great impact on the lives of our kids.”

School administrators and staff will be conducting interviews. Available instructional positions include English, math, science, social studies, music and art education, elementary education, special education and foreign languages. New teachers’ starting salary is $48,300 and benefit packages will be explained.

Softball Showdown: Jay To Host Northview Tonight For Rural District 1 Title

The Jay Royals will host the Northview Chiefs this evening for the Rural District 1 championship tonight in Jay.

Entering the championship, Jay boasts a 20-2 overall record, with a 2-1 mark in district play. Northview has an 18-6 overall record, 3-1 in district games. Both are coming off strong wins in the district semifinals on Tuesday when Jay beat Baker 16-1, and Northview defeated Paxon 8-3.

The teams split their regular season meetings. On April 3, Northview defeated then undefeated Jay 9-5, while Jay returned the favor on April 15 with a 5-3 victory.

The district championship game was originally set to be played in Laurel Hill, but has been moved to Jay with first pitch at 6 p.m.
