Wednesday Report: COVID-19 Cases Up By Eight In Escambia County

The number of COVID-19 cases in Escambia County increased by eight since Tuesday, according to the Wednesday report from the Florida Department of Health.
The number of cases in Escambia County is now 915, and Santa Rosa County increased by one to 262.
Of the 36 deaths in Escambia County, 28 have been long-term care facility residents or staff. There have been eight deaths in Santa Rosa County, seven of those at the Blackwater River Correctional Facility and none in long-term care facilities.
Statewide, there were 66,000 cases including 67,371 Florida residents. There have been 11,345 hospitalizations* and 2,801 deaths. The Florida Department of Health does not have a clear standard or definition of “recovered” and does not report a number of recovered individuals.

A cold front will move through the area Wednesday, bringing a chance of showers and thunderstorms. It will be dry on Thursday with slightly lower temperatures. The North Escambia high on Thursday will be in the 80s, and Thursday night’s low will be in 60s.

Nine Mile At Highway 29 Set To Be Completely Closed Wednesday Night

Nine Mile Road is set to be completely closed at the Highway 29 overpass from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, June 10 and 11.
The closure is planned for crews paint portions of the newly constructed bridge. Construction activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.
All Nine Mile Road traffic will be directed to the on and off-ramps at the Highway 29 overpass. Traffic control officers will be on site to help direct motorists.
Eastbound Nine Mile Road will be reduced to one lane, directed to Highway 29 southbound, U-turn at West Hood Drive, and return to Nine Mile Road. Westbound traffic will perform the same operation at West 9 1/2 Mile Road.
Throughout the week, drivers traveling Nine Mile Road at the Highway 29 overpass and traffic between I-10 and 9 1/2 Mile Road may experience alternating lane shifts or closures as crews continue drainage and paving operations.

Free Produce Giveaway This Afternoon At Highland Baptist Church

Highland Baptist Church will host a free fresh produce box giveaway on Wednesday.
It will take place from 5-6 p.m., or while supplies last at the church, 6240 Highway 95A in Molino. It is limited to one box per vehicle. The produce is being provided in conjunction with the USDA and Gulf Coast Produce.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Escambia County increased by 16 since Monday, according to the Monday report from the Florida Department of Health.
The number of cases in Escambia County is now 907, and Santa Rosa County increased by three to 261..
Of the 36 deaths in Escambia County, 28 have been long-term care facility residents or staff. There have been eight deaths in Santa Rosa County, seven of those at the Blackwater River Correctional Facility and none in long-term care facilities.

The number of cases in Escambia County is now 891, and Santa Rosa County is at 258.

Endangered Man, 81, From Atmore Found Safe
June 7, 2020
Update: A missing and endangered 81-year old man from Atmore was located safe Sunday night north of Brewton. Police said 81-year old Verbin L. Kemp was located on Lowery Landing Road near the Appleton community in northern Escambia County, Alabama.
Previous story:
A Missing and Endangered Person Alert has been issued for an Atmore man by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
The Atmore Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Verbin L. Kemp, an 81-year old black male that may be living with a condition that may impair his judgement.
He was last seen about 5:10 p.m. Sunday wearing blue jeans, an orange shirt, a black heavy jacket with orange lining and brown boots in the area of Jack Springs Road in Atmore. He may be traveling in a green 2002 Ford Ranger Alabama tag 30CA358.
His direction of travel is unknown at this time.
He 5-foot, 10-inches tall, 185 pounds with brown eyes and is bald.
