Sand Available In Advance Of Possible Tropical Weather, Just In Case

Escambia County is offering free sand for residents living in flood-prone areas in advance of possible heavy tropical rain this weekend due to tropical system Fred. The sand is available on a first come, first served basis at the following locations:

  • John R. Jones Jr. Athletic Park – 555 E. Nine Mile Road
  • Don Sutton Park – 2320 Crabtree Church Road, Molino
  • Travis M. Nelson Park -  4541 Highway 4, Bratt
  • Equestrian Center – 7750 Mobile Highway
  • Escambia County Road Department – 601 Highway 297A
  • Brent Athletic Park – 4711 N. W St., Pensacola
  • Ferry Pass Middle School -available on northwest corner of school property on Parazine Street
  • Baars Field Athletic Park – 13001 Sorrento Road, Pensacola

Residents must bring their own sandbags and shovels. Sandbags are usually available for purchase at home improvement and hardware stores.

Escambia Sheriff’s Office To Hold Beulah Community Cookout Saturday

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office will hold a community cookout in Beulah this Saturday.

The free event will food and family fun. Sheriff Chip Simmons, the K-9 Unit, the Mounted Posse and more will be on hand.

The community cookout will take place from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Beulah Community Park at 7820 Mobile Highway.

FEMA Testing Alert System This Afternoon; Your Phone Will Likely Alarm

FEMA will conduct a nation test of the Emergency Alert System at about 1:20 p.m. local time.

The test will alert most smartphones, much like severe weather and child abduction alerts, if the user has opted in to receive test message.

The test will also go to televisions and radios.

Free Hepatitis A, COVID-19 Vaccinations Today In Century

The Florida Department of Health in Escambia County (FDOH-Escambia) will offer Hepatitis A and COVID-19 vaccinations Tuesday in Century.

The vaccinations will be available from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Nadine McCaw Park (Roadside Park) on North Century Boulevard at Hecker Road.

The Hepatitis A vaccinations are no cost to any Florida resident 19-year old or older who is not knowingly pregnant.  Anyone vaccinated will receive a $10 grocery voucher from FDOH-Escambia.

In addition, a limited number of Johnson & Johnson “one shot” COVID-19 vaccines will be available during the event.

Today Is The Last Day Of Florida’s Back To School Sales Tax Holiday

Today is the last day of Florida’s  back to school sales tax holiday.

During the sales tax holiday period, qualifying items will be exempt from tax, including certain school supplies selling for $15 or less per item; clothing, footwear, and certain accessories selling for $60 or less per item; and the first $1,000 of the sales price of personal computers and certain computer-related accessories purchased for noncommercial home or personal use.
