Adoptions Are Free Saturday At The Escambia Animal Shelter

The Escambia County Department of Animal Welfare and Best Friends Animal Society are teaming up for a holiday adoption extravaganza today, December 10 for National Adoption Weekend.

During the event, the animal shelter will waive adoption fees for anyone looking to take home a cat or dog.

“We will waive all adoption fees for the weekend and we hope to find all of our great animals homes for the holidays,” said Escambia County Animal Welfare Director John Robinson.

The Escambia County Animal Welfare and Adoption Center is located at 200 West Fairfield Drive. It is open Saturday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

The Northview Chiefs (13-0) will face Hawthorne (11-0) in the state 1R championship game Saturday night.

Century Parade Tonight At 5:30; ECSO Movie Night Follows With ‘The Grinch’, Free Food

The Century Christmas parade is this evening, and it will be followed by a movie in the park with free food.

The parade will depart the school on Hecker Road at 5:30 p.m. It will travel to Pinewood Avenue to Front Street to Jefferson Avenue. It will follow Jefferson Avenue to East Pond Street, pass the Century Business Center, and turn back on Jefferson Avenue. It will then follow Jefferson Avenue to East Highway 4 and end at Anthony Pleasant Park.

Following the parade, a free Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Movie Night at Anthony Pleasant Park will feature “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” on a big outdoor screen. Hotdogs and hamburgers will be served by the ECSO free of charge. Moviegoers are encouraged to bring their own seating or blankets.

Visit With Santa Claus Tonight At The Molino Library

Santa Claus will visit the Molino Library tonight, and he will take time out of his busy schedule to make six more visits to libraries across the county before Christmas.

Santa will be at the Molino Library from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Cameras are welcomed.

Line The Roads Friday To Send Off The Northview Chiefs To State

December 8, 2022

A send-off will be held Friday for the Northview Chiefs as they head to state.

The Chiefs will depart Northview High School Friday at noon. The team will pass by Ernest Ward Middle School and Bratt Elementary School before heading toward Byrneville Elementary School on Highway 4. The Chiefs will turn north on Highway 29 through Century to East Highway 4 on their way to Tallahassee.

Chiefs fans are asked to line the roads with signs and cheers to send them off in style.

Note that fans should not enter any of the school campuses.

The Northview Chiefs will face Hawthorne (11-0) in the state 1R championship game. Hawthorne is coming off a 28-0 shutout of Blountstown Friday night. The FHSAA 1-Rural state title game will be played at 7 p.m. (EST) on Saturday at Gene Cox Stadium in Tallahassee.

The all-time record high temperature for the entire month of December was tied Tuesday at Pensacola at 81 degrees. Mobile set an all-time December record of 82 degrees.

Flags At Half Staff Today For Naval Air Station Pensacola Remembrance Day

Gov. Ron DeSantis has  ordered flags to half staff on Tuesday in Florida in Honor of Naval Air Station Pensacola Remembrance Day.

“On December 6, 2019, a horrific act of terrorism was committed at Naval Air Station Pensacola, taking the lives of three U.S. Navy sailors and injuring other heroic victims,” DeSantis said Sunday when issuing the proclamation.

The proclamation orders all state and federal flags to be flown at half staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, December 6, at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds in Florida.

The attack claimed the lives of Ensign Joshua Watson, Naval Aircrewman 3rd Class Mohammed Haitham and Naval Aircrewman 3rd Class Cameron Walters.

Editor’s note: Flags will also at half staff on Wednesday for Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
