FHP: Speeding Driver Caused Fiery Fatal Highway 29 Crash

October 13, 2025

The Florida Highway Patrol says a speeding driver was at fault for a horrific fiery crash Saturday night on Highway 29 in Cantonment that took the life of a Cantonment man and seriously injured two Flomaton residents.

The two-vehicle crash occurred shortly after 8 p.m. on Highway 29 south of the paper mill, near Woodbury Circle, and involved a Chevrolet Equinox SUV and a passenger car.

In a report released Sunday night, FHP said a car driven by a 28-year old Pensacola woman was traveling southbound on Highway 29 at a high rate of speed when the vehicle crossed over the median and into the path of a northbound SUV.

The driver of the car, a 28-year-old Pensacola woman, was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in critical condition. Her passenger, a 30-year-old Cantonment man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox SUV, a 72-year-old Flomaton man, was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in serious condition. His passenger, a 70-year-old Flomaton woman, was also transported to Sacred Heart in serious condition.

The rear portion of the car was ripped away in the collision, with the front and passenger compartment crossing all lanes of Highway 29 before bursting into flames.

The crash completely shut down Highway 29 for several hours.

    The quick and the dead.

You people wanted development, growth; well welcome to it. Moreover, the speeds on Welline Road should be lowered below 65MPH.

Prayers for all involved. At this time, it is unknown why she was going at such a high rate of speed. Possibly a medical emergency, fleeing a violent situation,

The state had been writing tickets all afternoon sitting at companion vet just before this happened. No matter hat law info cement does some of the speeders are still going to get by.so sorry for the loss.

There are less State Troopers on the roads in Escambia than ever before. There is very little time for them to actually work traffic enforcement. This is why excessive speeding and reckless driving is more prevalent than ever before. Just look at all the vehicles with high bumpers, squatted vehicles and dark limo window tint on their front windshields….. all illegal and unnoticed. In twenty years the registered vehicles in Florida has nearly doubled yet the number of State Troopers patrolling the Pensacola district has actually declined significantly.

I hear the complaints about speeding, but this accident along with the last three on 97 resulted from people being unable to stay in their lane of travel. No limit on speed will eliminate horrible collisions when you end up in the opposing lane of travel.

I live in 95 North and the people that gun they’re cars, trucks and motorcycles at higher speed than posted and yes, even at the speeds of 100. I’ve witness it, as they fly by me either driving or on the main road around Highland Baptist Church. I’m sorry for the loss and he is facing life in prison without parole. Cause people who speed and do stupid things, break the laws. And speeding over the posted limit is STUPID!!

Not even at an intersection. ‘High rate’ must have been pretty high.

Never mind speed limits. On Hwy 29 past Cantonment most cars go at least 80 mph – some 100!

It all boils down to speeding. Is it worth it when people die because of the driver’s selfish carelessness? These mistakes are embedded in memories for life. My heartfelt sympathy to the victim(s).
