No Injuries When Jeep Rear-Ends Semi In Fiery Highway 97 Crash

There were no injuries in a fiery Wednesday afternoon crash on Highway 97 south of Walnut Hill.

The driver of a northbound Jeep Renegade rear-ended a tractor-trailer on Highway 97 just north of Tungoil Road just after 3 p.m. The Jeep traveled across the southbound lane, through a ditch and came to rest in a field. The driver was able to escape the vehicle before it was destroyed by fire.

The tractor-trailer stopped on the shoulder of Highway 97.

Both drivers refused transport by Escambia County EMS.

The fire was quickly extinguished by the Molino Station of Escambia County Fire Rescue with assistance from the ECFR Walnut Hill Station.

The Florida Highway Patrol investigated the crash, which closed both north and southbound Highway 97 for a short period of time.
